Okay. So you want to cut the QB that we spent so much on in terms of time, money and picks. You want to sign Manning coming off his 3rd major neck surgery. Let me reiterate, NECK surgery. Not some random surgery, but 3 surgeries on probably the most important part of the body aside from the brain and heart. IF we signed Manning, I would not cut Sanchez, maybe restructure so maybe he makes 10 mil and Peyton's not taking anything less than 15... Also, it takes time to develop chemistry between any WR and QB, so not only would there still be holes on a team with many holes, but there would also be growing pains. What says that if we sign Peyton that we win a SB? If we did sign him, we would have a 2-3 year window, assuming his neck doesnt break, within say 8 years. Marino didnt win a SB with the dolphins in his many great years, Brady hasnt won a SB in the past 6, and Peyton has only won one in his 12 year or so career.
Plax and Holmes 2 receivers who have very good careers in the Nfl. Are they "elite"? No but they are capable receivers better then what most Qb's get to work with.
I'd also like to dispel this myth that Peyton is only interested in rings now. He signed his $90 million contract just this last July. In six months he's seen the light? Also, we shouldn't ignore that Peyton might just have two or three more rings by now, except for several years his staggering contract kept the Colts from being able to sign top-quality defensive players. It wasn't until they hit paydirt by drafting Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders that they were suddenly able to field a defense.
Great post. Having Manning for 3 years gives us a worse chance of winning a superbowl than having Sanchez for 10. It only keeps us from fixing bigger problems.
Manning's base salary for 2011 is $3.4MM. But he is also due a $28MM bonus in March. Sanchez's base salary for 2011 is $14.75MM.
I don't care what we do with Sanchez, as long as we make a legitimate push at Manning if hes available. I dont care what the terms are but Manning gives us a much better chance the next couple years then Sanchez. Anyone who doesn't agree is not a Jets fan.
Plax sucks outside the redzone. He was just in prison for a couple years and it looks like he has lost a lot of his game. Holmes is good but hes nothing to write home about. I would take many teams wr core before ours.
I suppose there could be. I'd just like to hear it plausibly described before I take it seriously. It's got to be something more than, "He'll want to play in New York next to his brother Eli."
And he may not see most of that contract. The Colts wanted to make him the highest paid player in the game, he said NO, give me less and build the team. Now let's say his choices are $15 million a year to play for the Fins or $8 million a year to play for the Jets - where does he go? If I'm Peyton I go to the Jets and do more commercials in the off season than usual if I feel like I need more money. I don't think anyone said he's only interested in rings, just that he's more interested in rings than money.
Awful ideas because you don't agree and think Sanchez is improving while anyone who watches the games sees hes not? And they are not my ideas I didn't write the Ny news articles, I bet More people would like to see Peyton starting next year for the New York Jets then Sanchez.
The only way would be if we traded Sanchez losing his contract entirely. Id love to see a healthy Manning play great for us but I just don't see it happening and I don't see us figuring out a way to bring in his contract with that huge bonus and fixing other glaring holes. I don't even think he will be able to come back and play as well as he did before his surgeries. I don't think people understand how serious his neck surgeries have been.
Hahaha, like Sanchez would resign here if we traded for Manning right now. You get Manning, you have to trade Sanchez. That's why I think this is a pipe dream.
Yea a healthy Manning would be amazing. But it won't work in reality with all the contract situations, his surgeries, and not to mention other areas we need to improve first.
A top 5 pick playing like a top 5 pick would be amazing to but hes playing like crap. Id take the odds off Manning coming back healthy and leading us to a 11-5 season over Sanchez "developing into a franchise qb" anyday. from 10-6 to 1-13 without making any changes to the team. See what a different maker he is?
Disagreeing with you would not make me not a Jets fan, thats just straight up retarded. If Manning hits the market, would you like a repeat at last years FA? Do you remember Nnamdi? Say we make a push at Manning, which Im sure many other teams will do. He'll demand top dollar because who goes from 28 million to 12? There is a VERY good chance we miss out on him. So we could be in a position where not only do we not have Manning, but also other big FA are gone like Cliff Avril, Dashon Goldson, Michael Griffin, Tyvon Branch, Matt Forte, Mike Tolbert and the RTs... So we would be fucked. Everything in this scenario is just risky beyond fuck and just a set up for even more or a setback than this year.
Ok genius - how about getting some facts straight before we can even begin to address your awful football argument. WTF are you talking about in this post? Wayne and Addai never played a down of NFL football without Manning before this year. When exactly were they underperforming and who was the QB you speak of before Manning made them stars????????
