No. You bring him in now as Offensive QC. I really believe much of last night has to do with the fact that we let a two year player take the playbook north. That's fixable. But the lack of results given the talent we have on the roster is not.
Really? How come since week 5, Sanchez has been on track to have the same amount of interceptions as last year? Since week 5, Sanchez has throw 1.25 INTs per game. 1.25 x 16 = 20. Since week 5, he's thrown 1 TD per game. The only improvement is more touchdowns, which is partly due to familiarity, supporting talent, and also due to a player's natural maturation. Schottenheimer's QB Stats since 2006: 2006: 17 TD - 16 INT 2007: 15 TD - 19 INT 2008: 22 TD - 23 INT 2009: 12 TD - 21 INT 2010: 17 TD - 11 INT (and rising)
you might as well throw away the season then.......we're not 4-8, Hobbes....we're 9-3 and poised for a playoff run. I hate Schotty...but he has to stay for the duration of the season.
I think Scott has done a good job developing Sanchez but strategy and playcalling has been his.shortfall.
As I said, you don't fire Schitty. You keep him, and the system, you bring in a guy to tweak it now (point out and correct the flaws), and replace it later. We go deep into the playoffs or win the big one, Schitty gets a HC job and everyone goes home happy.
Oh and the defense had such a stellar night. Even if we had God for an OC last night we could not stop jack shit on defense. I agree with the "lets wait until the end of the year if we switch OC" school of thought but we have deeper issues than just the OC.
Yes, the defense shit the bed. However, when you're playing the best offense in the league, you expect to be scored on. When you play the worst defense in the league, you expect to score enough to make the game interesting and have some momentum shifts. Instead, the momentum never, ever swung the Jets way from the first drive on through the end of the game. If the offense scores a TD on that first drive, it's a completely different game. If the offense scores a TD on the 2nd or 3rd drive, it could have been a completely different game. When you go down 17-0 so quickly, it completely deflates a team. If it was 17-14 or something, then the team's mindset is completely different.
Just a note on this whole issue on Shotty. I think Joe Klecko made a valid point last night on the post game show, that the Jets are running the same plays over and over. The formations might change at the LOS but the plays coming out are the same plays teams have seen form the Jets all year. There were many plays that went off last night that appeared to have been recognized easily by the Pats long before they ever developed. It may be time to consider moving in another direction with this offense. As difficult as it may be to learn a new system, Shotty's seems to becoming stale and teams are ready for it, we have seen over and over in the offensive play this year as points become harder and harder to come by....
So now he has two QBs to speak of: Matt Cassel with Pats led the team to 11-5, and now Kyle Orton. Now, the problem would be, *it is only my guess though* they would be learning a totally new offense. By this, I mean: Brian Schottenheimer's system, a.k.a. Chudzinski system, is a variant of Air Coryell offense. (And he made this offense look THIS inept. That's a work of wonder, actually.) Schotty learned it under the tutelage of Norv Turner. My guess is that, McD's system is more in line with Erhardt - Perkins system. (And this is what the Patriots are using, by the way.) As McD didn't coach under anybody else, I am inclined to guess that he learned it from Belicheat, who in turn learned the system from Bill Parcells. Under Parcells' influence, the system had more of smash-mouth flavor, but currently, with McD and Buck Frady (with Cheat, btw) running it, the system looks more in line with Westcoast offense. I for one wouldn't have problem with such a shift - if at all, McD already showed the entire world what he can do offensively, and that's all we need. We have Rex calling the shot for the defense, and I think we are about a handful of players on the defensive side away from the big dance. (OLB, Safety, DL) I really don't think, personnel-wise, the offense needs any improvement - maybe shifty slot WR with some speed to burn, but that's a luxury, not a need.
He also dismissed a coach during the season last year, though that seemed like it was more of a personal thing.
2006: Chad P immediately after TWO shoulder surgeries and having missed 13 games in 2005 2007: Chad hurt foot, Clemens starts most of the year 2008: Favre sabotaged our season 2009: ROOKIE QB 2010: 2nd year QB that has had a top 10 QB season.
Regardless of how well this team does I think Schotty needs to be replaced, this team has not performed nearly as well offensively as they should have. I know you're dealing with a young QB but you were also given plenty of weapons to overcome that. My main problem with Schotty (and Klecko hit on it last night) is Schotty is just not fooling anyone. If I know what play is coming I'm pretty sure Bellichek and any other coach in the league does as well. He just seems to show such a lack of creativity with this offense.
?!?!?!?!? We were 8-3 when he got hurt, and the play calling was ridiculous after that. Go revisit the Seattle game.
