So, who would the OP rather have? Bart Scott or Anquan Boldin? Because Arizona clearly isn't going to take Coles off our hands and books, and we don't have the cap space for both AND to give Leon a deal. We finally have a columnist ready to admit what the so-called cap experts have been saying for weeks: our cap number isn't as big as it looks. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2009/02/six-things-jets-will-do-with-c.html "What will they do with all that space? First let me say, it's really not as much space as it appears. The Jets started out about $15 million over the cap, plus their cap will be adjusted because of player incentives from last season that will kick in. Right now, they have about $18 million in space." Again, many bonuses and incentives haven't hit yet. We have enough for a big FA signing, one or two additional FA acquisitions, and a deal for Leon.
One problem here is it is typical off season wishful thinking to assume Clowney is the answer as a deep threat. I would absolutely love to see that pan out, as the thing most missing from this team's O for a few years now, really since Moss left, is a speedy deep threat receiver. Since we don't know if Clowney is the answer, how can we be so sure a match of him with Boldin and Cotch is the way to go? We all know that Cotch and Coles are both relatively similar type receivers. As much talent as Boldin has, does he answer the need to go outside that type and get a deep threat on the team? He'd probably be a better fit for the Giants.
The last thing I want is a high priced WR. They never, ever work out and I am not giving up draft picks for one.
Ah yes, Boldin can't wait to come to the Jets where Clemens can throw the ball five yards behind him and he can sign his next contract for league minimum wage. In fact that is the exact reason he threatened to sit out in AZ this year.
He is not happy because he's a #1 receiver on just about any other team in the league but is playing with perhaps the best offensive player in the league ahead of him and perhaps the best (one of the best) #3 wideouts behind him. In other words, he wants to be the top guy. Imo this is not a bad thing, particularly in light of the fact that he has the cred to back it up. The Clemens hater stuff does not deserve comment.
The point is he isn't going to any team that doesn't have a top QB and we don't. Just look at all the great receivers in Detroit and where they have ended up because they don't have one either. (oh, and if you watched Clemens in '07 that is exactly what he did and why he had the lowest completion rating in the NFL. He couldn't put anything on target)
GET ANQUAN IN NEW YORK! The Cutler talk is dead now. Move on to Boldin! Solve our #1 WR problem before the draft! Who is with me?
He just came out and said today he wanted to be a Dolphin: http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/04/02/boldin-would-be-grateful-for-chance-to-play-in-florida/
Plus he wants his contract renegotiated, which is why the Cards are looking to trade him. This means that one 1st round pick will get him, though you'd have to make sure you make him happy financially.
Obviously the Jets dont think we need an offense to win so getting a Boldin doesnt make any sense unless he can play defense. I can see it now...Jets lose another heartbreaker 3-0. LOL
He will go to whoever pays him and if it happens to be the Phins then he gets some extra. The Jets should make a play for him he's a big time player.
he's not 39 and ready to retire... we don't get budding superstars here, we getting fading ones... wrong franchise...
TO to the Bills, Boldin to the Dolphins, and Patriots keep moss.. This story doesn't have a happy ending.
absolutely, we shouldn't worry so much about a qb. We have 3 promising young qb's. Yes they're unproven, but I'm sure that at least 1 of those 3 qb's should turn out to be a stud. We already have a good OL, and running game, so all we need is 1 good, big target at WR to help develop the qb's we already have. So for me it's thumbs up for Boldin:up:
