What does that have anything to do with anything? Trayvon started and escalated the fight. So we can't ever get out of our cars now, because the Trayvon Martin's of the world might harm us and it will all be our fault because we left our car? If you leave your house tomorrow and get stabbed on the street, will we all say "Hey, would Barry's life ever have been in danger if he just stayed inside?" Come on man.
The media sold a lot of papers, NBC got a lot of viewers (even though they lied to them), Obama got his rally cry to go after gun owners with, and al Sharpton got to say that blacks are still discriminated against. Seems to me some very powerful organizations and people got to use this horrible tragedy to their advantage.
Wonderful spin job, I assume by not answering the question the answer is no, George Zimmerman's life would not have been in danger.
And what does that prove? Would Trayvon's life be in danger if he didn't go to the store that night? There are a lot of random questions we can all ask that have nothing to do with the case.
Do I think Zimmerman is a buffoon for leaving his car and following Martin? Yes, of course. But most people who are getting their SHIT kicked in would do almost anything to stop or get out of their current situation. Unfortunately for Martin, Zimmerman pulled his gun out and fired it. The guy was defending himself after Martin escalated the fight. It was either that, or let Martin continue to bash his (Zimmerman's) head against the curb or ground or whatever it was against numerous times. It could have been life or death for Zimmerman at that point.
Would Teayvon be dead, if he kept running All the way home? Or....how about, if he confronted Zimmerman, and said hey asshole, im going home....instead of committing assault and battery?
no, biologically a 17 year old is an adolescent. childhood ends at puberty. social classifications are arbitrary and fluid, making them meaningless. irrelevant. plenty of adults live with their parents nowadays, it doesn't make them children. if there is a real and tangible thing as being a child, it has to be absolute, and only the biological stage of life provides that. and biologically Trayvon was not a child. no I am not. there are plenty of poorly developed people in this world, and Trayvon may have been one of them. again, that is like asking if the rape victim would have been raped had she not dressed so sexy or not gotten as drunk. that is blaming the victim for behavior that is entirely legal and their right to do.
I knew you wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to answer the question. No it doesn't change the fact that Martin was also a dumbfuck who had to be hard but the entire sequence of events takes place because Zimmerman had to find that "asshole"
Touche' , scientifically he may be classified as not a child however to most people a 17 year is a child because they do not have the same responsibilities and rights as an adult The rape comparison should not be used in this situation, a rape victim doesn't choose to be raped. Zimmerman made poor decisions including going against the advice of the dispatcher to become a victim of battery. As Cappy pointed out a few pages ago, the law is flawed because it doesn't take into question did the "victim" take reasonable measures to ensure their life was not in danger.
and Zimmerman has paid the price for that decision. His life will never be the same. but if the fight was started by Trayvon, then he is to blame fight that led to his getting shot, which is the only relevant starting point for that event. he had no right to escalate the situation to a physical confrontation just because he did not appreciate being eyes suspiciously. you teach that to children -- you don't hit someone just because they say something mean or upset you. if you do you are at fault.
Zimmerman did not choose (speaking from the perspective that what he says is true) to get into a fist fight, and thus have to shoot Trayvon, he simply put himself in a position where anything can happen (like a rape victim), and that is what occurred (just as reckless drinking can lead to rape, or looking to sexy may stimulate some asshole to rape). but just like the rape victim has a right to do those things and not get raped, Zimmerman has a right to be suspicious and trail Trayvon as long as he is not doing anything illegal. the rapist is responsible for controlling themselves if a woman is too drunk to say no or too sexy, and Trayvon was responsible for not turning the situation into a physical altercation just because he didn't appreciate being followed (obviously my speculation for why he would attack Zimmerman if Zimmerman's account is true).
It seems to me that Zimmerman should still be charged with criminal negligence or manslaughter. It was stupid to follow the guy in the first place. I agree with not guilty of 1st degree murder, but no way in hell should he walk away scott free.
Agreed. He seemed like he was trying to get himself into trouble, and then he succeeded. His phone calls speak of a stupid asshole trying to be Rambo. From the evidence, he got his ass kicked by a young man and protected himself, but the situation would not even have happened if Zim had not been a hypervigilant dickhead. Let's not confuse a not guilty verdict with a not dickhead verdict. He should be forced to pay the family of Trayvon damages for his actions.
the problem with condemning following somebody you think is suspicious is that you pretty much negate any neighborhood watch and are essentially advocating the further segregation of society with everyone just concerning themselves with their own business, and not looking out for the greater community. if Zimmerman acted beyond the requirements of a neighborhood watch by chasing down Trayvon, that means chasing Trayvon down was stupid, not following him. there is absolutely nothing wrong with following someone as long as you are doing so to keep an eye on them until the police arrive, not pursue to confront them. and if all that Zimmerman did was try to keep an eye on Trayvon and inform the police of his location, and Trayvon acted like a child and created a violent confrontation, that means it was stupid for Trayvon to do so and not reflective of the overall positives and benefit of what Zimmerman was doing. but to condemn the idea of following someone you believe is suspicious is sad commentary on the isolated and self-absorbed state of today's society. at the end of the day Zimmerman may have been trying to help his community. if his version of the story is true, there shouldn't be any condemnation for that.
I don't know enough about rape to know whether it is true or not but rape is about power and not sex therefor someone dressing sexy should not matter if it truly is about power. The she dressed sexy so she was asking for it line should not matter because if it's a power thing it wouldn't have mattered how she was dressed unlike Zimmerman who made the choice to ignore the request of the dispatcher. The thing is I don't believe Zimmerman's story that he didn't know the name of the street. Seems like he's a pretty shitty neighborhood watchman if he doesn't know his bearings. The only story we get to hear is Zimmerman's because he killed the only other person that could have either confirmed or denied it. For example he says that Martin tried to grab the gun from him but I don't understand how somehow can pull a gun from his holster, get it in front of of him and pull the trigger all the while having his head slammed into the ground in the time frame things took place. For all we know he already had it drawn or once he did get it out Martin saw it and backed off and Zimmerman who by all accounts had anger issues blasted Martin in the chest. We'll never know what really happened which is really what makes "stand your ground" flawed. This wasn't a case of Martin breaking into Zimmerman's house and Zimmerman shooting him, this is a case of he said she said with the other person being killed. Something about that is wrong.
Scott free is not how I would describe how this worked for him. he is seen as a pariah by most of America and a fool by the rest.
One of the jurors spoke on CNN with Anderson Cooper. Did anyone catch the segment? I'm trying to find quotes or a transcript/video
