You really think George Zimmerman was carrying a gun and that he let Trayvon Martin get him down on the ground and do all that? Based on what we know about George Zimmerman? Out of shape guys with guns don't let "those assholes" get them down on the ground before they start shooting. Think about it.
Those assholes. Got AWAY. Martins friend indicated he was running. Its clear he doubled back, but beside that, for your supposition to be true, Zimmerman woukd have shot him after the first blow, not after he was on the ground.
I think the prosecution did a pretty good job of pointing out how hard it would have been for Zimmerman to shoot Martin once they were on the ground and Martin was on top of him. The idea that Zimmerman could have gotten off one shot that traveled at the angle the bullet took are really low. That angle suggests that Martin was shot at very close range and by an unencumbered shooter. The problem was that you didn't have to find that Martin was on top of Zimmerman on the ground in order to acquit Zimmerman. The prosecution had to prove that he did not have a justifiable reason to shoot Martin and that was a heavy load to carry given all the other circumstances. Reasonable doubt means exactly that. If the prosecution had proceeded under a Manslaughter charge from the get-go they'd have done things differently, de-emphasizing the conversations that took place on the various phones and making a concerted effort to prove the physical circumstances. It still would have been a hard sell given Stand Your Ground but the odds would have been better of them obtaining a conviction. The 2nd Degree Murder charge was probably to try to cow Zimmerman into a Manslaughter plea and it failed. The prosecution should have gone to Manslaughter at that point and done their best with it.
Wearing a hoodie at night is not a crime but it will get called in every time.why? Because it is the attire also worn by someone up to no good. Popular culture has kids wearing stuff that resembles thieves thugs and inmates am I gonna take the chance at someone walking down my street at night like that and give him the benefit of doubt? Nope. Maybe that culture needs to start looking in the mirror and stop trying to fit the bill of what they are trying to convince us they are not
The evidence at trial presented that Trayvon, without warning, punched Zimmerman in the face knocking him to the ground. I would assume that at first George tried to fight back, tried to defend himself, but being the soft, weak idiot that he is, eventually realized he wasn't going to win. Losing a fight is one thing, but once Trayvon escalated the fight and George started realizing his life may be on the line or even that he might die there (and believing he was dealing with a criminal) George was entitled to use his weapon. Untrue. To prove manslaughter in Florida, the prosecution would have had to prove Zimmerman was negligent in his actions and was without lawful justification. To prove he was negligent, they would still have had to present all the circumstances leading up to the fatal moment which show's Trayvon was doing nothing wrong and that George negligently profiled him. This case was never about "stand your ground." It was about self defense.
the shame of this situation is how dishonest everyone from the media to the President of the United States has been. the laws of our country, which reflect a civilized mentality, is that you don't escalate a non-physical confrontation to a physical confrontation. if you do, you are at fault. we teach this principal to our children at the earliest ages -- if someone says something mean to you you don't hit them. just because someone does something to you that you don't like, you don't get to respond with physical violence. the person that does is the person who is to blame. but the media, the prosecution, and all of the racists have tried to claim that simply being followed should allow Trayvon to respond with physical force. that is nonsense. that is the social issue that this case should be bringing to light; that is the social problem that plagues our country. this wasn't about gun violence, or racism, it is about a mentality in our country that causes people to escalate what should have been a simple situation to resolve by both parties simply talking to one another: "hey, why are you following me." "I'm the neighborhood watch and you look suspicious." "I'm just walking home; I live right down the street." done. obviously that isn't exactly how people talk, but you get my drift. whoever turned this situation, which should never have happened if they just talked, into the physical fight that ensued is to blame. and yet the hypocritical media, President and racists who all claim to be "progressive" have endorsed regressive adolescent behavior by justifying that even if Trayvon was the one to initiate the physical confrontation that it was justified simply for Zimmerman being suspicious of him, and that because he followed Trayvon, Trayvon should be entitled to respond with physical force. that is nonsense. that is how 2 year old's respond before we teach them not to hit other children.
Would I be right in saying this was not the 1st run in these two had,and that it may have been an escalating rivalry?
I'm not a law man but just looking at the case from ethical stand point. Even while getting your ass handed to you by a 17 year old, the use of a hand gun was never necessary. Pepper spray, taser or just mind your fucking business, keep it moving and let professionals handle your suspected criminals. Stop being pussies and hit the heavy bag. Get a fucking dog for protection or mace or some other self defense item that isn't going to kill someone. If you are a neighborhood rent a cop and you have a past history of being a punk, than you should not be allowed to carry a weapon that kills. /rant I am not saying Martin was right in the situation it appears from all evidence that he was very much in the wrong for wearing a sweatshirt, looking suspicious and allowing things to escalate into fists. 17 year old, Martin however, did not deserve to die. 28 year old Zimmerman is also at fault for allowing the situation to escalate to fists and for pulling the trigger of a handgun resulting in Martin's untimely death. I do not believe justice has been served. An unarmed child was killed after altercation with the neighborhood watchmen, that's pretty sad. What the punishment should be, I do not know for certain? I do believe there should have been some punishment leveled against Zimmerman and including serving time in jail. There is a nation of 17 year old kids who act tough in the face of authority. I don't think that they should be shot for it. I know that when I was 17 I had a pretty hard head and could be difficult with authority. I am glad I was not shot for it. Something is wrong here and if I am a father of a hard headed adolescent child I am rightfully concerned.
I was in the Navy at 17. any attempt to claim 17 years is still a child is a dishonest argument. at the least he is a young adult, not a child. what is your motivation is portraying Trayvon with such dishonest emotional rhetoric?
No. An unarmed criminal, that chose to commit battery on an armed man got dead. Zimmerman did not allow it to escalate to fists. Martin ran, hid, doubled back, and them attacked Zimmerman. (these assholes always get away) Now....thats no reason to get dead,,,,but...it certainly increases the odds of it happening, like drunk driving.
George's head was getting slammed into concrete over and over and his skull was lacerated and nose broken. If you don't think that is serious bodily injury, then I'm not sure what is. That is exactly what he did by calling 911. He saw something suspicious, and he called professionals. He didn't go chasing after Trayvon. He got out of his vehicle to get closer to the street sign while Trayvon lied in wait and confronted him. The constitution and majority of America see that differently. George, as all of us do, had every right to own a firearm. Oh, and it wasn't George with the sketchy past. Trayvon was known for his aggression, suspended from school 3 times just in that current school year alone, was smoking weed that night, and is connected to prior burglaries in that very neighborhood. This is sort of a misconception in society today. Trayvon Martin's own attorney, Natalie Jackson, said it best "Justice is about the process, not the result."
What would you call using a picture of him, at twelve years old, by all the media? An attempt to drum up business? Like a pimp by make up for his girls? The sad fact is, Sharpton, and Jackson, known anti-semites, claim the monniker of "civil Rights Activist" when their method, is not Equality, but Ethnicity. And the media buys in as well.
Dont attack someone that may be armed. You know, act....civilized. You wont get shot.... Unless you live in Chicago.
Except....this stopped being a stand your ground case, when Zimmerman got battered. The Stand your ground crap, is a lefty assault on the natural rigntt to self defense, extending from the anti 2nd amendment argument This was Self Defense, not a guy that refused to back up.
Good for you, so was my dad but that doesn't change the fact that a 17 year old is a child. He lived in his parents house, he is still supposed to be in high school and he can't vote. Young adult? Maybe but adults can vote, children can't. You also are assuming that all 17 year olds all have the same maturity levels and mental capacities. I was a punk at 17 worthy of ass kickings and I wouldn't have survived 5 minutes in the military. Just answer this one question which I know you won't because you'll turn it into some rant about an assualt on the 2nd ammendment and all that crap and sidestep and spin your way around answering the question. Would George Zimmerman's life ever have been in danger if he stayed in his truck?
Ignoring what? Your bleeding heart reason to hate the American justice system based on the fact that you have fathered children? Trayvon Martin was old enough to die for his country. I fail to see how he would be considered a helpless child victimized by a ruthless adult. You have ignored the points I have made about your opinion. I don't see how that warrants me justifying your standpoint. I have already stated that the case was mishandled multiple times. Your basic premise in this thread was that it could "only happen in America" I addressed that. Aside from that idiot argument, there is really nothing else to respond to you about. I'm not ignoring you. I am ignoring your ignorance.
