Yea I get that but I don't see what it has to do with whether my family is more or less safe with a gun in the house. I'm not saying they should impose ligjter control laws or outlaw cars because their are accidents. I'm saying that you cannot be at risk of something if you don't come in contact withe it. That's why it's more of a risk to hurt yourself with a gun if you have one. Obviously you're less at risk of hurting yourself with a gun if you don't fucking have one. No shit. That doesn't mean my family is less safe if I have a gun in the house. You can protect yourself from criminals with a gun. Where I live it would likely take 15 minutes minimum for a cop to arrive if someone invaded my home. That's too late. I believe my family is more safe having been taught gun safety and knowing how to operate the locked up guns if need be than they would be if we didn't have them. Maybe some jackass family that doesn't know shit about guns is more at risk, but that's on them for not properly educating themselves. It's called personal responsibility.
are you being serious here? or are you actually that stupid? the reason that these things dont happen at gun ranges is cause they take the proper precautions where does self defense come into play? im clearly not against guns... all im saying is that they are dangerous and need to be treated as such. and because of that fact, it is reasonable to limit the capacity of ownership available to everyday citizens (meaning increased regulation, mandatory training courses, trigger locks, etc.) just because you or me may be a responsible gun owner without incident, doesnt make the gun any less dangerous
The idea that taking guns away will lead to absence of gun-related deaths is fundamentally flawed. It assumes that all guns will be removed when in fact only those owned legally will be. Thus in the standoff between the bad and the good guy, you're removing only one gun -- from the hands of the good guy. Guess what happens then?
i dont believe you are arguing with the right person here, the only thing i said is that it increases your chances of becoming a victim of gun violence. i never said that your family was less safe because you had a gun in the house. if you are responsible about it, they are not any more dangerous to keep in your house than keeping your silverware in the drawer next to your toaster...
Tell me this, from what is provided below, which was an analysis of 200 or so cases reviewed for the article, would you come to the conclusions that A) Race played a part in the indictment and/or conviction of SYG cases. Or B) Race did not play a part in the indictment and/or conviction of SYG cases. Sorry that I don't have the time to review 200 different cases but I guess you do so why don't you put together a spread sheet with all the information, review and then get back to me.
Serious question. How long does it take a responsible gun owner to recognize his home/family is under threat of attack, go unlock his gun, load it, and then get on to the business of repelling the threat? Someone walk me through the mechanics of how you can simultaneously keep your firearms safely and securely stored AND have them at the ready when necessary to protect against unanticipated dangers.
The real question isnt getting to the weapon, the real question is how many people have inured themselves to take a life without hesitating.
Depends... are you talking in real life, like middle of the night burglary attempt, wake up at 2am because you hear a noise kind of thing? Or do you mean in the paramilitary wet dreams of these safe and responsible gun owners?
Yea I don't have any clips but I keep them loaded with the safety on in the safe. I'd guesstimate it would take 1 to 2 minutes to be ready to fire depending on where we were in the house. Who knows how long it would take to know there was an intruder.
If you keep a gun in the house and it's not under a lock and key that your kids cannot possibly get then keeping the gun is much more dangerous than keeping silverware in a drawer next to the toaster. Kids don't want to pull out a fork and stick it in the toaster to see what happens. Kids definitely want to pull out your gun and play with it. This is true even if you have impressed upon them how dangerous it is to do that. The other thing of course is that any parent who is capable of impressing that on their kids is either going to leave the kids wondering why such a dangerous thing is in the house or paranoid as hell about life in general.
First, if you have a kid old enough to get around and a gun that isn't locked up you're an idiot. We shouldn't be trying to idiot proof America. Second, it seems you have a very warped view of what having a gun around the home means. You teach your kids gun safety, how to operate the gun and to respect guns at an early age. It's not going to turn them into some kind of wack job.

does the word responsible just not register or something? what do you think being a responsible gun owner means? just not shooting anyone? anyone that doesnt keep their guns either locked in a safe or hidden with trigger locks is not being responsible with their weapon. its very simple to keep your weapons locked up. not locking it up is not being responsible. whats hard to understand about that?
Br4d is a smart guy, but he has proven himself as one dimensional as you can possibly get in this argument. Very disappointing.
While I fully agree that the fewer idiots the better, just because the parent is an idiot doesn't mean the kid is and that's who gets hurt. The kid is just being a kid. Tough to say the kid deserves to get killed playing with a gun because the parent was too stupid to own one.
So, how long does it take you to get your gun out and ready for use? 7 seconds? 2 minutes? That seems awfully quick to me. But I don't own one, so I'm just guessing most paranoid freaks worried about protecting their homes and families keep the fucker loaded and readily accesssible.
Shouldn't you be jerking off the Red Sox or something? That's basically the reason you exist here, correct? Aside from your undeniable quest to enlighten everyone about microbiology?
