If Geno plays like he did in the 2nd half we could have ourselves a better than expected season. The Buccs run D is great so hopefully we can run the ball better and give Geno some support.
That's what impressed me as well. He stated out shaky (aside from the Kerley pass) and just continued to improve throughout the game. He also knows exactly when to scramble. For a guy that is known primarily as a passer, I thought that was great.
The Jets did struggle with the running all preseason too. Same with this game. The Bucs are great at stopping the run, but this was a continued problem from the preseason. I hope we look better and it was more the Bucs defense than the Jets offense.
I really want to see how Geno played on TV, he looked pretty damn solid to me sitting in the stands. He was obviously told not to make ANY dumb mistakes, the kid had at least 3 throw aways and grounded a bungled screen pass. That was refreshing to see! PS- I know they called the game to his strengths. However, there were WAY too many shot gun sets. Anytime Geno took a snap under center, it was a forgone conclusion that they were running the ball.
Powell was able to make some decent runs in PS, although they didn't remotely light the world on fire in the ground. At least we're not struggling in that dept like the Phins did today. They had a combined 20 rushing yards against Cleveland.
The little things were what made me happy with Geno. He slid when he had ot. He scrambled at all the right moments. He threw it away and never forced anything. His 1 pick was a bad pass and the fumble really screwed us but he had a good second half. He's more accurate than Nacho in the short passing game for sure.
Yikes I didn't see any of that game. It was nice to see the short passing game picked up a lot the yards we used to rely on the run game for. Screen passes worked relatively well too.
His timing on screens in the 2nd half looked amazing from the stands. It seemed like he was going to get shit housed on both of them before he dumped the pass off. Looked like some receivers dropped some passes that were right in their hands, but that was from the 300 section. I need to review the DVR.
On a sidenote I hope when Geno has his inevitable bad game, that the Geno haters (Jetsfan) remain quiet like they're doing right now after Geno's solid performance.
Yes, that's something else I wanted to mention about Geno. He's excellent at executing a screen. #6 made me forget what that looked like.
The one where he stood in a took a big hit and he got Powell on the screen was really impressive. The other pass I like wasn't a screen, but he touched a pass to the FB which is the appropriate pass to FB. You don't rifle it in there, give him an easy one and he did that too. Those were impressive (for a rookie) to see.
Smh you know we've had shit at QB when fans are excited over a QB doing simple things like throwing the ball away and completing screen passes.
he was poised, honestly all he needs to do is 1. Continue to understand the playbook 2. Go through his reads faster 3. Throw with more anticipation 4. Take some shots down the field 5. Continue to improve his mechanics he has to just keep pushing himself, he's got the talent its just so hard to reach your potential in New York
That's true but at the same time, you have to know the current game situation aka THE TIME REMAINING ON THE CLOCK *and* where the Jets would be if he simply "guided him" out of bounds instead of shoving him. He fubar'ed and the Jets benefitted. Sucks to be him. Does not suck to be a Jet.
This is so true. How about throwing the ball where a receiver can actually catch it? And how about taking what the DEF is giving you, like an open running lane? This kid has accuracy and speed on his balls. Sanchez needs to brush up on his grocery bagging skills.
For a first game, with only 3 quarters of preseason, I give him a B. Great presence, very smart in the clutch and good accuracy. And his scrambling is icing on the cake.
