He played well yesterday and [MOST IMPORTANTLY] looked like HE KNEW WHAT TO DO WHEN TEAMS WERE BLITZING HIM I've never seen that from Geno before. Could it be possible that he's getting better reading defenses/with his touch passes? It was promising. We'll see next year!
I agree. As bad as Geno and the offense played at times, the play calling wasn't doing them any favors. MM never seemed like he had a plan. He just threw a bunch of random plays and saw what worked (or didn't, in most cases).
I blame the inconsistency of the offensive line, especially in pass protection. And how can anyone blame Ryan for not developing a QB when the OLine, especially early in the season, couldn't hold a pocket on obvious passing downs?
I think the Dolphins were mailing this game in, and the Jets were playing their hearts out. Miami also used it as a chance to start some of their bench players, and they didn't use Wallace much or maybe at all. They would've scored more against us if they'd used Wallace. Meanwhile Smith was super reckless, and did all the normal bad things he does, minus the interceptions. He awkwardly held the ball and lost it. He took a 10+ yard sack to take us out of field goal range or into a hard field goal situation. He threw without setting his feet. He missed reads. He sidearmed shovel passes through traffic while on the run. But everything was going his way- those passes where he had horrible footwork or threw the ball while he was jumping- on Sunday they dropped in on a dime. He could throw into double or triple coverage and get away with it. He was being as reckless as usual, it's just that this time the risks all paid off. It was good and impressive, but I don't think you can look at the underlying plays and say that he's good now. If he kept playing like that, sometimes the luck goes the other way. It's also interesting to note that earlier this year he had a QB rating of just about 0. He had one of the largest spreads between his best and worst games of any QB in any season, ever.
come on now... did you drink a bad batch of bourbon or something? There was some element of luck to Geno Smith's performance specifically, yes. Anytime anyone has a perfect rating there is some luck involved.. it's impossible to be perfect without it. But give the kid some credit he was very accurate. He played great. Everything was going his way because he was making them go his way.You are wrong, he played more controlled this game.. he wasn't making the same decisions just getting lucky, he was in control. Also- the point about the Dolphins mailing it in is just being negative for the sake of it. They weren't mailing it in at all and if Rex didn't call the fake punt/the Jets pull it off, they probably would've won it. Can you please explain to me the bench players they were playing because they mailed it in? The only one you mention is Wallace and they didn't bench him because they were working in scrubs, they benched him because there was an argument on the sidelines, similar to the Holmes benching down there a few years ago... by the way the Jets played without their best offensive lineman, their best offensive weapon and played most of the game without their best player period in Richardson.. plus they worked in young players on defense that they wouldnt've have if the playoffs were on the line..
When Geno puts up numbers like that in a meaningful game against a quality opponent that has something to play for, call me..
Well he likely won't EVER put up numbers like he did sunday again. Not to many people do. There's only been 62 instances of a perfect passer rating in history (1940s- ).
Geno delivered passes under pressure early in his career. Then the mistakes and hits piled up and he stopped doing that. Sunday was a mirage. I'm not saying he can't do that regularly but the evidence is that he won't.
You've been a Jets fans too long to think the Fins in Miami is meaningless. Do you know what our win on Sunday did to them? Everything looks shaky again and they're a couple of bad losses away from blowing it up and starting over.
they had that GREAT win at home vs. the 7-9 Vikings though to convince Ross that Philbin was the right guy for the job hahahaha..
I'm fairly sure they'll go get a big name player on defense in free agency this year and finish 8-8 again. You can't operate the way the Fins are operating and do much more than tread water.
If they would've lost that fluky vikings game they would've lost 4 in a row to close out the season, 5 of the last 6. Very good chance they axe Philbin and a great chance Harbaugh is being introduced in Miami today instead of Michigan given his relationship with Ross and the draw of South Florida. I am thanking my lucky stars for that win
Nick Saban didn't save the Fins. Bill Parcells didn't save the Fins. Harbaugh wouldn't save the Fins.
They went into that game with nothing on the line Brad. Nothing. Their Coach got his VoC from the Owner so he was good. No playoffs on the line. They didn't have a lot to play for and it showed. They looked like they didn't even practice against the pass since we ran it down their throats last time. Jets/Miami just doesn't have the flash that it used to. Certainly not on the level of Jets/Patriots (our Super Bowl) but more like Jets/Buffalo. Like I said, when Geno puts up similar numbers against teams when it matters, I'll be more convinced. Until then, I consider Sunday's performance a fluke against a team that simply mailed it in.
I'm not arguing that the performance wasn't a fluke. I think the odds are that it was. I'm just saying that millions of Fin fans woke up totally miserable on Monday morning because the Jets slaughtered the Fins. I don't think anybody in that organization was mailing things in on Sunday. I just think they're not that good.
As well you should...It's never been about his physical skills anyway, it's about being mentally tough to avoid mistakes. That said, he threw some balls that were right on the money. and the OL was virtually flawless in pass protection. That rarely happened during his tenure.
Would those be the same "fans" that rarely show up to the games Brad? That stadium looked a lot like CitiField on a weekday in August. If there are millions of Fin fans that still give a shit, they certainly have a funny way of showing it. They may not be that good, but they certainly aren't that bad. Jacksonville could have beaten them last Sunday. We have to agree to disagree on this one Brad.
Or maybe poor coaching made him play like a scared puppy. Just like Sanchez after he threw one too many interceptions. I'm not saying either Sanchez or Geno will ever be good, but our offensive coaching staff certainly didn't help either of them develop early on or even have consistent players around them.
