No. I don't consider that trying hard. I thought that was part of playing the position.

West Virginia fan here. Started following the Jets as soon as they drafted Geno.
All I have to say is, you guys are going to be pleasantly surprised at how much better Geno is this coming season. We saw it last year. His first year in Holgorsen's offense, he was pretty average (with some good moments) until the Orange Bowl. Then he came in as a senior and lit it up. The guy is a film rat and one of the hardest workers we've seen in Morgantown. I can only imagine how much he'll improve in MM's system with a full year under his belt and no classes to worry about that will interrupt his film study. I'll be shocked if he doesn't look like a completely different player this season.

Given in the past he was praised for his work ethic at the very least it's a good sign.

I remember Idzik made a comparison to Russell Wilson in respect to film watching.

Plus here's the WVU fan mentioning that too.

Ftr I like what he said about the other players, but again what else was he going to say? That they sucked?

People make too much over things players say in general.

For myself I think Smith's defenders here overstated the lack of talent on O as the reason for his problems. He had the sixth best running game in the league, and imo that number would have been better if D's were facing a more dynamic passer. And while talent was not anywhere near above average, and was in fact below average, that was not the reason for all his turnovers. He was throwing the ball right to defenders.

I have not forgotten that, either. I never thought the criticisms of Sanchez for supposedly being lazy were fair. All I ever heard was how he put in long hours and worked hard.

Didn't do him much good, though.

To be clear i am not saying he's got anything like a bad work ethic.

Smith's problems seem more to be about his pocket presence, awareness of defenders, his fundamentals. Not sure how he fixes those just by watching film.

I would say that is his number one problem. He would drive me crazy last year..it was like he had absolutely no idea how much time had run off since the play started or that defenders were coming up from behind and about to kill him.

He didn't have to answer the question at all or implied that the receivers weren't good without actually saying verbatim that the receivers sucked. But I get it in your eyes Geno can never say or do anything right.

    Exactly.
His comfort level has got to improve in those critical seconds after the ball is snapped..Hopefully Vick will help him with that.

I just said I liked that he said it, but you and too many people here overrate statements from players. You don't get much right around here as far as I can tell.

All of these were problems with Geno in 2013. The thing is that his fundamentals are not historically an issue with him, and that is where you saw him deteriorate without weapons. His pocket presence was an issue even from the beginning of the season, and his awareness of defenders as well, although personally I would characterize it more as a need to adjust to the speed of the game. I saw all three of these things improve immensely at the end of the season. I never said a lack of weapons was the only issue, no doubt he was raw coming in. I just think a lot of those rookie growing pains are improving.

You then gave an essay on his negatives as usual.

If you disagree with what I said and feel you can articulate a countering argument, go right ahead. But all you are doing here is weeping over my being critical of Smith. Grow up.

Why would the Jets do that? They already have a sort of project Qb on the roster in Simms. If they've already decided to move on from Simms, which would be news to me, then doing what you say makes sense. But they haven't. Should they carry four Qb's?

Jets doing some work on QBs, bringing in Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas today.

And if he is still there in the 6th(where he is supposed to go) I bet they take him.

Don't like the scouting report on him saying he's "very inaccurate".
Also big issues with ball security/interceptions.
