Vick beat Nick Foles out of the starting job just lsat season, who is a far better Qb than Smith. True he lost his job de to injury and then Foles having arguably the best season of any NFL Qb. Vick now is in fine shape. Ther's no reason to think he's worse than he was last off season. THe simple fact is as I stated. Only a certain segment of Jet fans think Smith is even close to Vick.
Sanchez surely was poor those years. But not as bad as Smith was last year. In Smith's favor he was a rookie, but that fact does not undermine what i said.
i am having a hard time understanding how a qb with a career comp % 0f 56 and a int % of 2.8 who has only been over 60% comp once in 11 years is thought of as a lock to be the best qb on this roster. we just cut a qb with numbers not that far off those marks.
Not really. We just don't assume Geno is going to come out and look like a new qb this year. There's really no reason to assume that he will but it seems like the cool thing to do if you hate Vick.
I don't think it's crazy enough to think Geno won't improve right? Vick is prob the best insurance we've had in regards to the QB position since what, Vinny in 98? This team could have that 98 redux if Geno gets hurt and Vick finds his groove. It's just good to have options - but I am nervous about Vick getting older. Father time is still undefeated. If we are going back in time, better off going back in time for a QB that can actually pass and make his teammates better around him right?
you don't think it's crazy enough to think geno won't improve? I read that like 10 times and still don't get it. I don't think there's a person I've seen state that Geno cannot improve. Of course he can and should. That doesn't mean he's going to look like a starter because he sure as fuck didn't for a lot of games last season. Geno could improve and still blow. I think there's a lot of people who just assume he's going to be a different guy this year because that's what is going to take for him to beat out vick. It doesn't take 2006 vick to be better than geno. 2013 vick will be more than enough from what I've seen and there's no guarantee 2014 smith is significantly better than 2013 smith. As terrible as people want to pretend like Vick is geno was much worse last season.
geno doesn't have to come out like a new qb. he is already pretty close to vick's comp%. cut his t.o. by 25% and he is right there.
his completion percentage may be close but that doesn't mean he's close as a qb. I mean really? That's your argument? really?
Chad Pennington was better than Tom Brady, Joe Montana and Dan Marino. He was actually the best QB ever.
You have to separate the QB that Michael Vick was at 30 from the QB he is now. He hasn't won very many games the last couple of seasons and he really hasn't played all that well in the process, which is one of the reasons he hasn't won many games. Yes, he's been hurt a lot over that span but that's one of the realities of crossing the 30 line and Vick wasn't exactly an iron horse before that either. Its a good thing the Jets have him, because he will give a good professional effort for as long as he is fit but the guy who had the great year in 2010 did that three years ago and hasn't really showed up all that often since then. Could he have a flashback year to his prime? Sure, but that's not what you'd expect him to do. The Jets already got lucky once with Vinny in that regard and it is asking a lot to think it could happen again.
extremes muddle discussions. of course we know why chad wasn't as good as the h.o.f.'ers you mentioned. i think the geno to vick at this point in his career is very fair. vick has never been a good qb. he was an unbelievable talent and play maker for a while but not a good qb. now at 34 to think he is going to either play above the back of his trading card or make the athletic plays that make you forget about the below average qb play is a tough thing for me to buy. maybe he will and that would be great, i mean we all want the same thing. but to act like geno has to make some huge leap to match vicks qb numbers overrates vick a bit
If he continues his play from the last 4 games, he's a starter in this league. I don't see him changing his game, but I think he'll make better decisions. The footwork should be better. We have to remember also, on the other side of the spectrum, Vick could also get worse and regress due to age.
I'm not over rating Vick. You guys are over rating Geno and assuming he's going to be much better. If you want to just look at completion percentage as the measure of a qb I will continue to point out how ridiculous that is. Matt schaub is better than Tom Brady and Brett Favre btw. Geno was very bad last year ... sure he could be better. He could also be worse considering every nfl dc now has a can of tape on him to identify and exploit weaknesses which there are plenty.
I agree with everything in this post except the "he could get worse" part. Only because I am not sure it gets much worse than how he looked last year. Especially in the month of November
