If training camp competition is even close, the ball HAS to go to the QB who represents the future. And at 32 going on 33, that ain't Fitzy.

And for what it's worth, the spread offense under Chan Gailey we've been hearing about is far better suited to Geno. Geno is not a conventional 'take the snap from under center and be a pocket passer with a FB, RB, TE, and 2 WRs'. He's far more suited to spreading it out and winging it or running with it. You know, like in college. If Geno can figure out how to keep 2 hands on the ball while running around he'll have no problem beating out Grandpa Fitzy.

I think Geno will beat out Fitz for the starting job. I think Geno has much more athleticism, better geared for more prevalent scrambling quarterbacks of today's NFL.

Expectations have to be at there highest for third year quarterback and improved offensive weapons. Fitz probably has the stronger offensive decision making skill, but I doubt Fitz is the more physically capable athlete.

As long as Smith is on the roster, I'll be rooting for him to magically turn into the second coming of Steve Young. The odds are against that happening. I know it, this board knows it, and Smith (probably) knows it. That's why he's putting time in with Marshall now. Show's that he knows that he has to get better. Working with one of the game's top receivers can only help him. So good on Smith for putting in the effort, good on Marshall for putting in the time, and let's hope that some of this results in some tangible improvement during the season.

This is just another argument for limiting the Jets' offense, and making it less effective and more predictable, to counter the negatives in Smith's game. It quite simply does not work like that in the NFL.

Hmm, I thought ALL successful offenses were tailored to the people running it...And I'm not sure how tailoring an offense is automatically a "limiter".

The key is who makes the better decisions throwing the football. Geno exactly wasn't great at decision making. Fitz could have him beat in that department, that will give him the starting job.

Fitz gives this team the best chance to win. Let Geno sit this whole year and let him learn. He isn't going anywhere for a long time. Let him play in 2016, he will be much improved by learning on the bench. If he does well re-up after 2016 since its his contract year. If he is still average show him the door. This team can be 10-6, 11-5 with Fitz. Geno would have this team 9-7 at BEST. If we want to make a playoff run we stick with Fitz he still has 2-3 years left.

I'd rather move on from Geno all together if he can't beat out Fitz. This is his 3rd yr in the league. Excuses are running out. Time is running out.

Gotta love Geno's work ethic. He's gonna be a stud under Chan Gailey just wait. Fitz is gonna get smoked in TC.

I am NOT going to get caught up in another Geno hope fest. Jets quarterbacks have had more failed chances than Carter's got liver pills! As my pappy says.

Didn't look like much of a workout. Just two guys playing catch.

Again I keep seeing Smith Fans say Gailey is going to work wonders with Smith, implicitly compared to Marty. That is based on nothing.

And the comments were lol worthy.

What the Jets say at the end of a game "Gee No touchdowns!"

i wouldnt say that people WANT him to fail, i just think some people are jaded by how horrible QB play has been around here for the last 6-7 years (i wanna say the last time we had a good stretch of qb play was favre before he hurt his shoulder). patience is thin and some dont think hes the answer and want to just cut the cord now

i think he deserves a dead even, no favorites competition going into camp. lets see if gailey really is this QB whisperer that we want to believe he is. if he can do with geno, what he did with fitz in buffalo (play wise, i definitely expect a better W-L record than the bills had), then we will be in great shape for awhile. we would have a young QB that can play for the first time since chad.

Our defense is going to be lights out. Fitz does have 2-3 years left in the league, I never said as a quality starter. Fitz could do good things for us. An average QB could get us to at least 9-7 and Fitz is about as average as it gets. However, he played pretty well last year and I expect him to play on an average to above average level this season. 3,000+ yards, 20 TDs, 10 INTs 60%+ comp % is not unrealistic or "too high" for Fitz. With those numbers from the QB position this team is easily in the playoff hunt.
