What we need to remember it it's a Giants home game so they should have kept the game time unchanged and just passed out free umbrellas to the first 200 fans.

And does anyone really care if a few thousand Giants fans perish on the trip home?

    Sheesh.

I live in Northern NJ and I am as capable of tracking Irene as you and have been. It may turn out to be less of a catastrophe than the media is claiming (what else is new). But it may not. Why take a chance? I have prepared my house and property for the storm this morning, not at 8 pm tonight after the game.

The bottom line is that the postponement is about practicality, humanity, and logistics and not money. If the game were about money, they would have scheduled it for Sunday or Monday night to begin with. Let's not be cynical about everything.

Whether you want to accept it or not, people are preparing for this storm TODAY even though it will not hit until sometime between midnight and 6 am tonight.

The storm was not going to interfere with the game, but issues with evacuations in NJ and NY, including downtown and areas of NJ not far from the stadium (Hoboken, Jersey City). Plus, some of the evacuees are being sent to the Izod Center from what I understand. Add in that your beloved hero Gov Christie and his administration made the decision to stop mass transit at noon and start closing highways at the same time and you get a potential traffic and logistical nightmare around the stadium. Other resources that would be devoted to the game are being diverted for other purposes (police). The decision to postpone the game was made in conjunction with the NFL and Christie. I would love to be able to watch the game today with nothing left to do also, but I understand the issues.

Don't forget, there are stadium workers and employees of the Jets and Giants who will need be working well before and after the game is over. Shouldn't these people, some of whom may live in the evacuation areas, have the right and ability to get home prepare for the storm?

The decision was not about the money. I don't even understand this argument. What is the real difference between Saturday night and Monday night? The ads have already been sold. The tickets are sold. They will probably take in less in concessions because the crowd will be smaller Monday. And let's not forget that it is preseason. Do any of us really care that much? And if the storm is bad and brings damage and flooding and power outages, the game will be cancelled. So be it.

Stay safe and let's hope the storm does fizzle some and this is much ado about very little. That is better than the alternative.

Possibly. I don't think anyone can dispute that money is playing a factor here given the decision to postpone the game and force a short week rather than simply canceling it or, better option, holding the game without fans at a location further west. I'm not sure the decision to hold it Monday night is really based on trying to squeeze more money out, but rather to keep the money already spent on tickets.

I think the teams were more than happy with the early Saturday afternoon game time, then city and state officials fucked things up by shutting down public transportation. Can you imagine the number of refunds the team would have been forced to issue if the game had been held while transportation and fear kept people from coming? It would have been either a huge financial bath or a PR nightmare.

So, yes, money absolutely had an effect. I just don't think it was the NFL trying to maximize profits by holding a MNF game on the NFLN. Seems much more likely that the teams simply tried to keep their game and their profits intact. The NFL, I'm sure, is quite pleased with the result, though.

    LOL.

    It gets better.

Check out the article, and then go to WU, and play with the map.

The bottom line is, NY and NJ both jumped the gun, acting on information well in advance.

Personally, I think if this storm was to hit on a day when the Markets were open, they'd have been far more prudent.

I understand the need to protect the subway system,etc....but...forcing 2 million people to beat feet, that far in advance...looks like Chicken Little.

Storm Chasers on FNC in Cape Hatteras not looking too terrible.

80%? I think you're giving far too much credit to the general public remaining as reasonable about all this as the people here have been. Besides, all it takes is one stadium employee claiming that a hostile work environment was created by asking her to work under such fearful conditions and suddenly you're dealing with a shit situation.

It makes sense to move it to Monday, not from a standpoint of there being actual danger in play, but from a standpoint of perceived danger and the inherent financial risk of asking fans and employees to come out in a climate of fear.

Like I said, the best situation would have been to simply rent a field in western PA and hold the game quietly, but like you said, money certainly played a role. It would have been a financial hit that the teams weren't ready to take.

I absolutely agree with that. I'm guessing fear over what happened in Katrina prompted the response. The public wants to see action well in advance, and they got it. Never mind that it's entirely unmerited and not an analogous situation in the slightest.

HOLY FRIGGIN MOLEY! I cannot believe how wrong I was.

It just sprinkled on me while I was grilling some steaks.

I would not want the general public traveling in this, much less my Team playing in it!

It's beyond comical how the Weather Channel and the Cable nets are scouring for something to hang their hats on.

OMG, Gusts of Wind being reported on the South side of the storm!

(though to be honest, I'll be taking down the Umbrella, and securing the deck furniture after eating...)

    Here's food for thought.

Game would be played right now.

Storm is now moving at 10 MPH.

Va Beach, is 350 miles away...

Hmm Irene getting here (if it doesn't die out) Monday Morning?

Will nannies Christie (very disappointed) and Bloomy (expect it) keep everything shut down Monday?

End of the 1st quarter. Not a breeze, or drop of water in sight (sporadic shower, 5 min in duration)
