KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) -- The Seattle Seahawks signed former Pro Bowl guard Mike Wahle to a five-year contract Thursday. Agent Neil Cornrich declined to specify the value of the deal, but it is believed to be comparable to what other starting guards in the league earn. That would mean approximately $3 million in base salary, plus many more millions in a signing bonus.
Too slow, again. They had better have a MASTERPLAN in place for the FA period and not smoke and mirrors again.
We missed out on a great replacement at LG that we coul dhave had before FA starts and everyone gets more expensive......pardon my French, but I feel like the guys making the calls are stupid fucks.... hey Kellen, better make that 4 second mental clock a 2 second clock....maybe less.
If you take into account these points from SI, it looks like we may have missed out on a little bidding war: [by the way, this guy made $18MM from the Panthers before he was released]... "... The New England Patriots and "just about every team in the league who had openings on the offensive line" were interested in Wahle, Cornrich said. But the Seahawks had inherent advantages. Wahle's father played at suburban Bellevue, Wash., High School and at Oregon State. Wahle's parents have a second home in Bainbridge Island, Wash., across the bay from downtown Seattle. And the family has many relatives in the Northwest. "The Seahawks definitely had a home-field advantage with Mike," Cornrich said in a telephone interview from Cleveland. Wahle's rookie season was Holmgren's final season as Packers' coach before he arrived in Seattle. Holmgren will coach his final season with the Seahawks in 2008...."
You left out NH, ME, VT & maybe even eastern upstate NY which borders on Mass from your signature statement
Somebody needs to explain to me how Wahle was allowed to be signed by the Seahawks! Free Agency doesn't start until the end of the month. Once he was cut by Carolina wasn't he a Free Agent?
More Buffalo and NY Giants fans than there are Pats fans up there. More Giants fans in total considering they have their training camp in Albany.
You called the FO stupid fucks for not signing Wahle and said Kellen better get ready to have no time again. Please tell me, what did I miss? Maybe I should go listen to some talk radio and smarten up.
OK, I can't force you to drink the water. There's a long off season ahead, let's not get too crazy about missing out on one guy who wanted to play for his old coach. There are a decent amount of quality linemen projected to be FA's.
Even so. I thought that once you were cut or released you had to wait for the Free Agent signing period to begin. What's the difference between getting cut and having your contract run out? Either way the player doesn't currently have a signed contract and is a free agent. Is there a difference between being cut and being released? Maybe that's where I'm not getting it.
All I am saying is that they forfeited the opportunity to fill a big hole right away, before FA starts, when everyone will be bidding. It's not good team management, and it is not the first time. This is a team that truly cannot fill all of its needs this offseason, so passing up a good grab just leaves one more spot we won't be able to fill through FA and the draft.
You have no idea what went down. You cannot say we "passed up on him" and "forfeited an opportunity" without backing it up with any information. Did the FO have a discussion about this guy and decide not to pursue him? Maybe the FO contacted him and he said he wants to play for Holmgren who already had the inside track on him. Maybe the FO already has an inside track on other players they'd rather have. By the way, anyone could have "bid" on this guy just like any other FA. You're saying it's poor management because we didn't sign this guy when you have absolutely no idea what happened.
You are right, maybe we offered him more money and he turned it down, but as one of many fans who knows what we need to get better, seeing another legitimate addition go elsewhere is just another event in a trend that I'm growing ever more sick and tired of. I understand cap issues, etc., but when this happens a lot it must be one of 2 things: the Jets aren't a glamorous destination, or the management is missing the boat.
I agree it's frustrating seeing players you want not get picked up, and if at the end of this offseason we haven't made significant moves to shore up the o-line I'll be right in line with you - not getting this guy at this stage in the game doesn't concern me all that much, and I don't think anyone should really be overly concerned about it. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d806b09c9&template=without-video&confirm=true
