He wrote it on Twitter but deleted it. He said "I must've forgot how smart Todd McShay is."

McShay had us taking Mariota in his last mock.

No I meant the part about Amaro preferring Mariota over Geno?

Yes, that is certainly a possibility in 2015 and maybe 2016 even, but what about 2017 and beyond? We're saying that Alex Smith is his FLOOR NOT HIS CEILING!!! Alex Smith had to make drastic improvements in his game to be the Alex Smith we know today. I see Mariota as being able to be a serviceable player much earlier than that with the potential of becoming a very special player down the line.

I think even if mariota isn't pro ready he manages to throw 1 TD to a wr if he was to start as a rookie

Agreed and even if he didn't Alex Smith type production would mean a huge upgrade at QB for this team.

It's not happening (Mariota down to 6), so I'm not allowing myself to get wrapped up in this.

I agree, but it's pretty shocking that almost every mock draft has him falling.

This all means nothing though considering the combine hasn't happened and neither have workouts and interviews but the argument could be made that he will drop. In fact, I thought I read somewhere that he doesn't plan on throwing at the combine. If that's the case, I can definitely see him fall.

He doesn't say it outright. McShay has us taking Mariota, Jace tweets how smart he is. I just put two and two together, lots of people picked up on it I guess that is why he deleted it.

Ahhh I thought he was being sarcastic like McShay doesn't know what he's talking about.

    LOL.

I think good chance either Winston or mariota fall to us

Im not sold on Titans taking a QB, so unless come one trades up 1 will be there

Hah! A guy on the radio yesterday said the three favorite words of a Browns fan are "pitchers and catchers." I can relate.

I would neither pass on nor trade Mariota if he falls to us at 6. Just the possibility of him turning out great is enough for me to want to roll the dice.

My only concern is that he'll be thrown into action prematurely. I'd rather him sit for the year, gain the muscle memory from operating under center along with any other mechanics that the coaching want to retool, and then be ready to play in 2016. If Geno somehow winds up having a very good year, then that good problem can be addressed when the time comes.

Agreed, I am fine with rolling the dice on Mariotta at 6, but keep him to holding a clipboard for a year. Play Geno or a guy like Fitz.

I'll say it again -- if you are in need of a QB you don't pass on one of the top prospects in the draft.

I'm not a Mariotta fan but you have to draft him if he is there. And you go with Geno again for the year, which isn't a disaster no matter how poorly he plays because you have Mariotta in the wings getting prepared for the next year.

If this is true and Philly doesn't trade into the top 5, I think we have a realistic chance of Mariota being on the board at 6.

The Titans just have too many holes across the board. Their defense is atrocious, and they need a RT, RB, WR. Mettenberger, while not a franchise QB, showed last year he can play.

The Jags and Raiders aren't taking Mariota.

    So that leaves the Redskins.

Who knows what Mcgloughan is thinking there, but we know this: Jay Gruden loves / needs / wants pocket passers. Gruden "begged" for Andy Dalton in Cincy when the owner wanted Colin Kaepernick.

Him dropping all depends on if the Titans are confident in Mettenberg. If they are they'll probably take Cooper or an elite Defender, if they're not they'll take whichever is left of the QB's.
I'm also not totally discounting that the Bucs may surprise everyone and stand pat with their QB's, it's unlikely but if they're not sold on either QB come draft day (post interviews). it's possible, but I wouldn't bet a hours wages on it.

No way Tampa sits still w their current QB situation. They just cut McCown and glennon was a draft pick of a different regime. It's Winston or mariota for sure to Tampa

I've been saying this since day 1 :) - we have a very realistic chance of grabbing him - now do the Jets want him? I don't know.

Mel Kiper's 2.0 Mock draft again has Mariota Falling to gang green. Lovie Smith already pretty much declared he is NOT on the Mariota train so we don't have to worry about MM going 1st pick, Mariota is either Tennessee's or Ours (assuming we want him). It's really that simple. Unless of course somebody trades their future away for him.
