Poole was great before the injury last year but Guidry actually played well when he moved into the slot role. Looks like JD and the staff really feel confident he will be fine in that role. They also seem to like Bless and Hall as well. I’m sure JD will grab a corner in this draft, if all reports are true that Newsome is an option.
Poor Tavon Austin was introduced into the NFL a couple years too early with too much hype. If he was coming into the league now, after the widespread adoption of the jet sweeps and receiver screens, I think he would've had a better career because that's his niche. It doesn't help that he was stuck in even more archaic times with Jeff Fischer's offensive philosophies.
Absolutely. I remember being very meh on Austin coming out of school especially when it became painfully obvious that we wanted him. Hilarious to think about now considering how jacked I am to have Moore who is basically just young Austin (but a WAY better route runner).
I think Moore is a much more developed receiver as you said because of route running. His draft equivalent in my eyes is Rondale Moore. Austin was just too damn weak at the point of catch (similar to R. Moore) to hack it. He could be a nice special teams addition though since I don't think we really have a kick or punt returner unless Berrios sticks around.
I honestly thought Moore was gonna be the PR/KR but I'd much rather him not be. Let Austin and Berrios battle it out. Berrios isn't anything special but he's a solid returner. If Austin beats him out then we're in good shape.
really depends how big of a role he has on offense as a rookie. mims and davis likely start outside so he has to battle crowder and cole for snaps in the slot. we have a lot of talent at WR so I think we rotate a lot
People say 2020 was a weird year but between the Knicks being a legit good team and this sentence being true, 2021 might be weirder.
I wonder if Braxton Berrios has some level of immunity because he’s clearly a Boyer favorite. I also wonder if we are actually giving Austin a look at something more than just a return guy. What is the guaranteed amount of money on that Cole contract?
We'll likely carry 7 Wrs with 2 of them playing on special teams. our top 5 are a given with davis, mims, crowder, moore, and cole. the 6th and 7th spot is up for grabs with a group of guys. austin will have to earn a spot as will berrios and the rest
This to me makes crowder seem very shaky right now. Add a vet for cheap that fits the system and move Moore right into the slot.. Davis Mims Moore Austin Cole Berrios + 10 mil rollover. Not what I would do but I’d understand it.
I like the Austin signing, if for no other reason than returning punts and competing with Moore as a versatile chess piece in this O. In no way do I release Crowder though. He's exactly the type of dependable, wide open chain mover that a young QB needs. Rolling over money rather than fielding talent in 2020 is partly what did Darnold in. Douglas needs to learn from the past, and not go down that road again. Supporting the young QB in his rookie year has got to be priority 1, not rolling some extra cap to 2022. Cut Berrios.
Weren't a lot of people upset when the Rams traded ahead of the Jets in 2013 to draft Austin? Sure glad we dodged that bullet and ended up with... Dee Milliner.
Lawerence Cager and Vycent Smith are two name to consider, Smith plays special teams and Cager has potential.
