We can pick up someone for a first year salary of $1.25 million in first year salary. I'm not sure how incentives count toward the salary allowances.
So.... now what, is Folk going to suddenly become "money" for us?....this is what that the top rated look like....any late round drafts look interesting??? http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2010KP.php 2010 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2010. 2010 NFL Free Agents - Kickers: 1. Sebastian Janikowski, K, Raiders. Age: 32. Re-signed with Raiders (4 years, $16 million) Sebastian Janikowski nailed 24-of-27 field goal attempts in 2009, including a whopping 6-of-8 from 50-plus. Kind of makes you wonder how all of those teams in the first round passed on him before he fell to Al Davis. 2. Jeff Reed, K, Steelers. Age: 31. Franchised by Steelers Jeff Reed has failed to hit at least 82.8 percent of his field goals only once since 2004. This is really impressive considering that he's kicking at Heinz Field, one of the toughest kicking venues in the NFL. 3. Neil Rackers, K, Cardinals. Age: 34. Neil Rackers missed a big kick in the playoffs, but he's 41-of-45 the past two seasons, He's one of the top place-kickers in the NFL. 4. Dan Carpenter (ERFA), K, Dolphins. Age: 24. Voted to the Pro Bowl, thanks to a 24-of-27 season. Dan Carpenter is 2-of-3 from 50-plus in his career. 5. Stephen Gostkowski (RFA), K, Patriots. Age: 26. Tendered by Patriots (2nd round) Stephen Gostkowski had a down year, hitting "just" 24-of-29 field goals. He's 3-of-4 beyond 50 in his career. 6. Jay Feely, K, Jets. Age: 34. Signed with Cardinals (2 years) Jay Feely was 27-of-33 in 2009 and has hit 4-of-4 in his last 50-yarders in the regular season, but missed two kicks in the AFC Championship. 7. Olindo Mare, K, Seahawks. Age: 37. Re-signed with Seahawks (1 year, $2.8 million) Remember when Olindo Mare missed two field goals against the Bears, and Jim Mora Jr. spazzed out after the game and blamed Mare for everything, including world hunger? Those were the only two kicks Mare missed all year; he was 22-of-24 on the season. Ah, Mora, I'll miss your complete ineptness. Hopefully some other NFL organization will hire you soon so you can ruin yet another franchise. 8. Matt Prater (ERFA), K, Broncos. Age: 24. Re-signed with Broncos Matt Prater hit 29-of-34 field goals in 2009. He's 7-of-9 from 50-plus in his career, though the thin Denver air might have something to do with that. 9. Garrett Hartley (RFA), K, Saints. Age: 24. The Hartley House is 21-of-23 on field goal attempts in his career. He was 8-of-10 this year, but of course hit that big Super Bowl-clincher against the Vikings in overtime. 10. Nick Folk, K, Cowboys. Age: 25. Signed with Jets I love how kickers aren't allowed to have a bad streak of games, yet players at other positions are. Folk was 26-of-31 in 2007 and 20-of-22 in 2008. In his career, he's 5-of-9 from 50-plus. He's a really good kicker who's just going through a mental slump. 11. Shayne Graham, K, Bengals. Age: 32. Shayne Graham has hit at least 80 percent of his field goals every year since 2002. However, he completely gagged in the playoffs, missing two easy kicks. You have to wonder if that will impact him psychologically going forward. 12. Shaun Suisham (RFA), K, Cowboys. Age: 29. Shaun Suisham had a career year in 2009, knocking in 19-of-22 field goals. However, he's just 3-of-8 from 50-plus in his career. 13. Billy Cundiff (RFA), K, Ravens. Age: 30. Tendered by Ravens (2nd round) Billy Cundiff hit 18-of-21 field goals in 2009. Prior to that, his best season was a 23-of-29 effort in 2003. This season marked the first time he ever hit 80 percent of his kicks. 14. Jason Elam, K, Falcons. Age: 40. He's done. Jason Elam missed four field goals within 40 yards this year. 15. Mike Nugent, K, Cardinals. Age: 28. Mike Nugent was drafted in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft because of his strong leg. Oops. In his career, Nugent is just 3-of-9 from 50-plus. 16. Mike Vanderjagt, K, None. Age: 40. 17. Martin Gramatica, K, Saints. Age: 34.

I'm amazed at how many people think this is the end of the world. I'm done with any kicker that chokes in the biggest stage of their lives, Jay Feely applies here.
I think the league looks at the bonuses and incentives and they decide if they are likely to be earned. If they determine they are likely to be earned they would be added to the amount the Jets would be able to offer an UFA. I am thinking there are some hard to earn incentives in there though since they only offered Rackers $2 mil a year on a 2 year deal.
Yeah well when is Gholston going to go? Feely missed a few field goals lately and he is axed immediately. Gholston has a shitty career and they won't get rid of him. So until the FO gets rid of Gholston, I don't want to see any "money saving" moves by this organization because they're being hypocrites. Even if Gholston ever became good elsewhere (which he won't be) I would always support their decision to cut his ass.
Per Rotoworld: The Jets offer to retain K Jay Feely was for just one year at $300,000 less than he made last season. "I don't take it personally even though I'm disappointed," said Feely. He had the full backing of the coaching staff, but the front office allotted fewer dollars to the position this year. Feely couldn't bring himself to accept the paycut after setting a club record with 24 straight field goals in 2009. Wow, we were cheap!!! I wonder why... having a reliable kicker is very important
Not that it has anything to do with this thread but they would not save money by cutting Gholston, they would still have to pay the remaining guaranteed portion of his contract which I think has over $10 mil left to be paid.
Haven't you heard? Reliability is overrated and soooo last year. We're all about keeping fingers crossed and potential now
I know we're putting a lot of focus on the PO's because that's really what the NFL is all about. But we can't discount what happens in the regular season either. If you don't win games, you're not gonna reach the POs and that's where Feely was consistent. In fact, ff you were to ask ppl on TGG if he was reliable going from Cincinatti to San Diego, everyone would've said yes. If you would asked TGG if he was reliable going from San Diego to Indianapolis everyone would've said yes. But he had 1 bad game in the Conference championship game and we're ready to pull the plug on him. Fine. But if we're gonna dump him, let's at least UPGRADE the position that's gonna put us over the hump of from the Conference Championship game to the Super Bowl and not leave it a question mark. Let's replace a SOLID kicker with a GREAT kicker. Folk and his average Pro-Bowl year, as well as one and only kick in a playoff atmosphere is not an upgrade.
It's not a downgrade either. Look at the world champion's kicker - Garrett Hartley. He was young, didn't have much experience in the playoffs, and he got them to the Super Bowl against the Vikings. Nick Folk replaced Jay Feely. We weren't looking to upgrade at the position, we were looking to fill that hole for a reasonable price.
That's the main reason. The way the Jets are trying to save money in an uncapped year tells me that they're trying to get every cent ready to resign Brick and Mangold next year, and Harris and Revis after that.
I saw that too. He made it sound like he's going to grit his teeth and snarl at us as he hits an extra point.
