Feely was a solid, accurate, and reliable kicker. His weakness was that he couldn't boom one. 50+ yarders were asking a lot from him.

Then again, when was the last time the Jets had a kicker with lots of leg strength who was very accurate?

I remember John Hall had a good leg, but you didn't know from one kick to the next whether it'd be dead on or way wide.

Rotoworld also suggest the Jets could look towards Rackers

That would be foolish. We'd be sending out a guy who kicked well in our poor conditions for a guy who kicked well in perfect conditions. Rackers wouldn't be the same kicker here that he was in AZ.

Wow Feely might have fetched us far more than we could of hoped.

"The Cardinals reportedly had a contract offer of $2 million annually on the table for free agent Neil Rackers before signing Jay Feely on Friday.
$2M a year is a solid sum for a kicker, but Rackers' agent reportedly didn't reply to GM Rod Graves' emails for two weeks after the proposal was made. Color us surprised if Rackers gets substantially more on the open market. "

I would assume this means Feely is also likely fetching around or about 2million a year

Rotoworld is just re-reporting what the Star Ledger is speculating about in the article I started this thread with. Rackers and Feely were both looking for inflated contracts because the Raiders threw a shitload of money at Janikowski. I doubt there is any substance to the Rackers stuff.

This sucks, we had a solid dependable guy at kicker. Oh well, I guess that's business.

I doubt Feely left us because we asked him to take a paycut, and then went to Zona and took a paycut.

He made the fucking Pro Bowl, man. I don't give a damn how many attempts he had, he made 20 of 22 kicks - that's awesome production. It's not his fault that he played for a team with a high powered offense.

Folk's twenty-something years old. A change of scenery may be all he needs to get his head right. The guy clearly has more ability than the journeyman Feely.

    Uhmm what ?

I dont think there is anyway even remotely possible thats true.

That would be a slap in the face to every single player on the team.

Get over it guys. Feely was good, but was no where near great. I'd prefer to keep Feely, but if letting him go gives us the opportunity to sign someone for around $1.5 mil, I'd do it. Rackers is probably a better kicker than Feely anyways so I wouldn't be too pissed if signed him to give Folk some competition.

I agree that Folk has the higher ceiling.
He did suck pretty bad last year....which may be a blessing in disguise for the Jets if he gets back to his old form.

Didn't Nugent go to the Bucs?

If it's true that we are interested in Rackers then i don't understand letting Feely walk?

Folk clearly has the ability to be a hell of kicker in this league. I think Jerry Jones' public scrutiny of Folk really hurt him.

Like I said, a change of scenery could be huge for a young player like Folk.
