Yes, but I thought Herm/Bradway's idiocy had way more to do with letting 3 good young players go.

Winston, I can live with the loss of Becht, but it was a real shame that we did not keep Ferguson and K-Mak

The loss of Becht was just dumb. The guy wasn't offered a deal and he was a tremendous blocker. We would be better today with Becht and Baker.

Becht's lack of being able to catch was a big part of his undoing. He was a very good blocker though.

I have to cry complete and utter bullshit on this one. Blaming Tanny when he was reporting to Bradway is borderline lunacy.

Also, Marcus Coleman was garbage and the cap situation Parcells left us made the deal with the Texans a tremendous move. SB in 2002? Really? If you watch tapes of Rice doing his little move on Robinson in the 2002 playoff game, it looks exactly like the move Rice put on Coleman in 2001. We were embarrased by the Raiders, and Aaron Glenn would not have magically propelled us to a SB victory.

Becht couldn't catch a cold and Ferguson was a complete turd the year before we let him go. The only guys this team truly missed were Glenn and Mackenzie, hell, we're still missing McKenzie.

Becht in 04 was the best blocking TE in the league and particularly adept at sealing off the edge which is why Martin lead the league in rushing that year. We didn't offer him a contract and he didn't go for big money. It was on outright dumb as shit move to let him walk. Ferguson wasn't signed for one reason, they thought they had him locked up. They wanted him back he filled the middle and allowed DRob and Vilma to thrive. While they were packing the lockers to go home, the Cowboys stole him out from under us and we tried to match the deal a deal we could have negiotated for a lot less money before the end of the season. It was total neglect that we lost both of those players both of whom were absolutely key to the O4 season.

Coleman was not only not garbage he was better than the FA's they tried to replace him with.

My sentiments exactly. That's why I believe that Faneca and Andrews/Starks should merit serious consideration.

The team can address its other needs (DL and LB) through the draft. It seems like there will be quite an attractive collection in this year's draft unlike last year's. Gholston (sp) will be there if C. Long isn't. I'm sure Harvey would probably be there too at the top of the 2nd round.

Sighting Becht as the reason for Martin's success? Having one of the best OL's in the NFL had nothing to do with it? A TE needs to be able to catch the damn ball.

Furgeson was destroyed on these very boards his final season with the Jets. He was nothing special other than his contract year.

And again, Tanny didn't decide when or why people got contracts. He only drew up the contracts when Bradway told him to. So if you want to be pissed off at someone for failing to extend contracts to marginal NFL players, be pissed at Bradway, not Tanny.

And yes, Coleman was terrible. He was a liability. There's a reason he was moved to safety his 2nd season with the Texans. If he had to turn his back to the QB it was a big gain if the ball came his way, every time. Aaron Beasley was actually an upgrade. our problem was that we didn't replace Glenn. Abraham played well for us and nabbed 4 INT's in 2002, but he was no Aaron Glenn.

DRob played as well as he ever did with Fergy eating blocks up.

Not to be contrary, but D-Rob's best season was 2005 when Reed was starting next to him.

Almost everyone on this board wanted Ferguson resigned it's to bad we can't look that up, he was excellent in 04 and Beasley sucked and so did Robinson, Coleman was a good defender had a nose for the ball and could come up and help with run support. Beasley was horrible we don't agree on any of these players.

Becht was universally hated and everyone wanted him gone except Tony and I. Becht was part of that OL and was the reason we were able to run when the box was stacked against us. We used the FB in the passing game which allowed us to use a big blocking TE on the edge in both running and passing plays and match it up against stacked defenses.

When the FO was wasting time trying to resign Fergeson (who wanted to reunite with Parcells), I was pounding the table for Pat Williams (who made the pro-bowl this year in Minnesota).

With that being said, Fergeson would be a nice pickup this offseason.

Bradway was the one who said "you can't afford to pay everybody" as he let Thomas and McKenzie walk. Those two moves are what contributed more than anyhting else to the collapse of the Jet's offensive line. If you can't keep good young linemen entering their prime you won't have a good offensive line.

You keep Kareem McKenzie and you let Chad walk if he has to have a Brady/Manning level contract. You keep Thomas and you let Mo Lewis and/or Marvin Jones go when it's appropriate, not when they have collapsed.

The Jets just made bad money to talent decisions over and over again during the Bradway era and the only thing that remotely bailed them out in the end was that Curtis Martin was such a gentleman on the way out the door.
