He is in over his head and the media has picked up on that and it was mentioned in a few articles today. Once you lose the media you are history. Barring a miracle and the Jets getting in, Mangini is out. If he isn't then Johnson better just forget PSLs for next year. He can say that because of the economy he has decided to wait a year.
Bevis and Butthead comment was poor. anyway, you have every right to simulcast the Mike Francessa show if you'd like. But hes not calling for Man gina's head.
Mangini never had the media. And why should that end a coach's career anyway? I had no idea the media were expert sports analysis, I thought they were a bunch of assholes given the freedom to write/speak to the people so that they can sway public opinion. And can we please stop acting like those PSL's won't sell?
Oh, but he is in a way. He railed on quite incessantly about the team not responding to him and that he has no "feel" for the team, the game or the adjustments necessary. What he was saying is that if the Jets can respond and beat the Phins, then he deserves another chance next year, which is to say that if the Jets lose Sunday, he needs to go.
I'd of course prefer to think that the PSLs won't sell, but the truth is, they will. I know it and every ticketholder knows it. There are just too many corporations in the NY area to not have some entity buy them and write them off to T&E at the end of the year. What I found interesting in the "survey" that they emailed us is that, they were wanting to know how long we've been Jets fans and how many games we actually attend each year and how far away we are from the stadium (in commuter minutes), etc. It was almost like somebody finally said, "Wait a minute... let's see who the real Jets fans are and who will attend." To my knowledge, that was the first time I had ever seen that kind of query... an interest in the new stadium as it relates to actual attendance. Heretofore, it was always about, "How much are you willing to pay for the PSLs," and the hell with who would be sitting in the stands and what their predisposition was concerning being an actual Jets fan or not.
They are going to have a problem selling the PSL's in this environment. The NYC Metro area is in the tank. The Yankees are discounting prime seats right now the freaking Yankees.
Yes, a thousand times this. If my employer was blowing money on PSLs right now I would be enormously pissed off.
I didn't know that. And here I thought it was a kinder, gentler Woody, just returning from a Broadway production of "The Christmas Story" and somehow hellbent on not wanting to appear like Ebeneezer Scrooge for the holidays. I do hope you're right, but I somehow think the PSLs will all sell. Maybe not at their 1000% inflated, overblown prices, but more like a 600% inflated, overblown price. Either way, I'm out.
It is not a matter of the PSLs selling at this point. But the price, that may be an issue. They will find people willing to sit and watch the game, no matter how bad the Jets get.
My supposition would be that if he can rally this deflated team against all hope and crush the phins, he would have shown that maybe he CAN actually motivate more than just his hand to his mouth.
Someone didn't take his Zoloft today. Jeezus jonnyd, youre letting this eat you way too much. Dont act like this team shouldn't be in the thick of the race. The thing holding the Jets back right now is the shitty coaching/gameplanning. We obviously are a better team then 9-6 as shown earlier beating "potential" SB teams back to back. This fucking sucks. Im with you on that. And before you get all emotional on us again, I dont want to hear you utter the word potential again, just because I know your looking to flame that argument to death. For the record, I love potential.
I think part of the problem is he has lost the team, you could see it in the body langauge of the players and you could see Favre has had the passion sucked out of him. It's kind of sad but one of the greatest QBs in the history of the game is going to be nothing more than another piece in the SOJ puzzle.
Yeah, but we're clearly not better than our record says we are. For all we know our wins against the Titans and Patriots were flukes. Who did we really beat besides them?
Who cares? We beat them and we are above .500. I'm happy with that. If Mangini can start showing some emotion or atleast find a way to get his players fired up, then I will be more then happy with that. That is a big positive. Without passion this team will falter most of the time because we don't have the best team a lot of times but when we play with passion we can beat anyone on any given Sunday. Gotta hope the Jets show up this week with the most passion we have seen from this team since the season started. Only chance we have.
I think the question is, who did we lose to? Were 0-4 on the WC. Clearly traveling is a problem for this team.
zoloft sounds good actually....I apologize to 227 and sci for being a dick. oh and to the mod who warned me for being bad. I just cannot believe this team went from 8-3 to this heaping pile of shit. This disaster ranks up with any otehr Jet disaster I can remember,,,,thankfully Ive only been following this shit pile franchis for 28 years....some have it worse than me. It is now 10:30 Monday night and I am still fuming mad. Livid. Fucking balls. BALLS. Spetember. We have to wait for September for this bullshit to start again. And we dont even have a nice juicy draft pick to entertain ourselves talking about. Even though we all know we'd just fuck it up again- Dbrick, Gholston
Francesa actually invoked the 'K' word today (hint: if you have to ask what the K word is you didn't watch the Jets in the mid '90's), when he was screaming about Mangini's 'they played hard' comment.
If he has lost the team, then this year is shaping up just like 1994. The Jets absolutely quit on Carroll after the Fake Spike game. I particularly remember James Hasty stopped playing hard. We'll see if the team has quit on Mangini on Sunday.
