If we draft a tight end in this entire draft, I'll flip out, unless Vernon Davis fell to 29, which won't happen. We have Jolley, Baker, and Dresseen, which is a solid TE corps. You want to upgrade WR, fine. RB? Even better. QB? Good, too. OL? Definitely. But tight end? The tight end is the only offensive position we're above average in. And it's the least important position on offense next to fullback.
No and no, kendall stays at guard he is close to a pro bowler at that position, instead of moving kendall to center and drafting a guard, with this combo we would have to good players maybe, with keeping kendall at guard and drafting a center we would have a good center and a great guard. I like kendall at guard.
The WR class is pretty crappy this year. Add-in we have midget WR's, Pope would be a good pick as Baker is average, Dreesen is a backup, and Jolley isn't going to do much. A 6'7" target that can stretch the field (none of our current TE's can) would be very beneficial to whoever plays QB for us, especially in the redzone.
Seems we hve yet another Bradway disciple here, trating the OL like an afterthought. Kendall is a better guard then center, and needs to play guard. OC is one of the most important positions on the team. Drafting Mangold at #29 is not a "waste" by any stretch of the imagination. Addai at the #29 spot? That is, ummm, a bit of a reach.
get a clue...addai will not last to the 3rd rd...he is a legit rb that has just as much potential as the other 4 rbs to be great in this league
your vy statement is bs...so far he has been a great QB....never will be???? we'll find out, won't we
that's wrong though...he is saying that he feels o-line is the deepest in this draft (which many people will agree on), and you can get high quality linemen in the 3rd and 4th, which is very true... i don't think we need to take rb or te in the 1st rd, but we don't need to take linemen either, for me it's all about BPA....give me 2 superstars on d, and an rb that falls to 29 with our first 3 picks, and i'll be extrememly happy....some good linemen have to fall to our early 3rd. and 4th. rd picks, and that's what we need to do. Believe me, I know that we need some young players to groom on the o-line, and I have no problem taking linemen high if our staff feels they are BPA at that time, but i feel in this draft we can afford to wait till the 3rd and 4th rds and still come away with some quality o-linemen...idk, everyone has their opinons on this type of thing
Right, jw. I like Kendall, don't me wrong, but don't forget he was gimpy as hell on top of it. Gimme a shiny new penny on this one, thanks.
Kendall playing at Center would be a disaster. he belongs at Left guard where he played his entire career and has excelled. He doesnt have tha agility to handle the Center position and struggles w/ the reads.
I just want to reply to "drowndedjetsfan". I somewhat agree with you about not drafting a center, I disagree however if we are able to draft Nick Mangold. If he is available when we can pick then the Jets must pick him. This is from nfldraftcountdown.com: "Strengths: Has good size and the frame to add more weight...Technically sound and plays with good leverage...Solid athlete with good quickness who moves well...Smart and a hard worker...Makes all the calls and is a leader along the offensive line...Competitive and plays with a demeanor...Durable p who has started since 2003...Still has some upside with further physical development. Weaknesses: Does not have a wide base...Needs to hit the weight room and get stronger...Will struggle head-to-head against massive nose tackles...Is not very e or nt...Doesn't always hold his blocks as long as he needs to...Does not get a great push in the run ...Might not be a perfect fit in just any type of scheme. Notes: Might fit best in a zone blocking scheme...Has all the tools you look for and his experience and intangibles push him over the top...Ready to step in and start for the next decade...One of the rare p s at his position with first round potential. If he is available when we pick in the second round the jets need to draft him and they will.
Oh and as for Addai if anything pick him with the 35 overall, our 3rd rounder. But i have a totally different opinion about the draft, i've given my opinion in some other thread about the draft on TGG.com. It involves trading our #4 to the broncos for their #15 and #22
You start rebuilding a team by first cementing your OL. It takes them half a season to a full season to develop anyway. The only other position that takes as long or longer is QB. You can find skill players almost every year. Solid offensive lines are not put together over night they need to be cultivated. Make no mistake even with all of the positive moves we have made this year so far, we need to forget about trying to win anything this year and seriously set ourselves up for years to come. Half of the problems we have are a result of not taking a long term approach to problems and only providing patch work to fix the problems. I could care less if we draft two offensive linemen in the first round this year as long as they are the best players on the board.
The problem with the fullback postion now a days is that no one is using then right. Rathman and Johnson where just as important to the Cowboys and Niners as the oline was and for a team that has a make shift oline like the Jets a true fullback would help them out alot (not saying draft a fb in the first round but I like Bernstien - Wis) it give you a good dump off guy when the QB gets in trouble, opens holes for the running back against the LB and Safeties, picks up the blitz and missed blocks better then the h back or running back can, which give your te, rb, wr and qbs a better chance to get there job done - moving the football and get look over all the time like they arent important. Listen to some of the interviews with the skill players on the old Cowboys and Niner teams they all bring up the FBs.
whats wrong with ocallaghan and eslinger in the 3rd 4th rounds , you do not need first round o-line picks or high second in (this) draft to add solid oline players , why do that when we can get playmakers with the first 3 picks on offense or defense , i don't think adding a runningback or kickass linebacker or defensive lineman or bigass tightend is gonna hurt the team when we get the opportunity to draft solid oline later in the draft . We will be much better off not panicking with picking oline to early in (this) draft. just my opinion !
Ok first of all, Vince Young at #4? He doesn't warrant a pick that high since he's such a boom or bust prospect. Second of all, you can't just say Kendal will make a fine Center. What makes you say that? He was horrible at Center last season. It would probably good to bring in a veteran Center, but there's nothing wrong with starting Nick Mangold at Center IMO.
