Does it matter if the Phins sign A. Smith. He is not much better than Moore. Moore, Smith Garrard, Henne, Sanchez are all roughly indentical interchangeable parts all being bottom 5 QBs. Does it matter if they have 2 bad QBs or just one? Either way they will have to live and die by their defense. Most likely the latter. I am just happy that Miami did not get Manning or Flynn.
It was interesting that we never heard (at least I didn't) that Miami made Flynn an offer before he left town...there might be a lot more to this than we know..like maybe he sucked if they worked him out.
I'm pretty sure there new head coach knew enough about him prior to seeing him do a workout. If they brought him in it was because he liked him.
This is why Jeff Fisher went elsewhere; he knew that a terrible FO not giving its coach more input on roster moves would lead to the Phinners watching FA's go elsewhere. Sucks to be Philbin.
First is was suck for luck, now its blow for Barkley. Well at least we know they are getting thier protein down there in Miami.
His contract (3 years, $26m with only $10m guaranteed) does lend weight to the theory that this is why the Packers didnt tag him given that he couldve made $15m guaranteed just sitting tight in Green Bay if he signed the tender and didnt accommodate a trade. edit: also as much fun as it is laughing at the Phins I think that this says more about Flynn than the Phins - if they had really wanted Flynn I am sure that they could have got him and the fact that they did not try very hard is probably because Philbin is not that impressed by him, i.e. he knows Flynn's limitations (and positives) and does not think he is an nfl calibre QB
Rumor is they never made him an offer when he was there. Seeing as his ex-coach is now in Miami that may speak volumes about what they thought of him when he was there.
As dissapointed as I was/am that we didn't get Flynn, it really says more about Flynn than it does the dolphins. If they really thought he could be the guy, I'm sure they would've signed him. I really don't know much about Tannehill, but Mike Sherman does, and we haven't taken a qb in the 1st round since Marino so if they do at least it will be a fresh start. I just wish he had more experience. All I know is that if we do take him, he gets at least 4 years before anybody can start calling him a bust, because he has only started a handful of games, right Sanchez lovers? Going into the season with Matt Moore and possibly Tannehill wont be very exciting, but at least we know we can win some games with Moore. We aren't going to any superbowls this year, but at least we can still shoot for the playoffs. The middle of the AFC isn't too scary with teams like the Jets and Cinci and Tennessee and the whole afc west. I don't think a wildcard is out of the question, although I think we would have to overachieve to get that.
tannehill is supposedly quite a project and would need a year or two to start - it would also be a bit annoying to be forced to reach quite a bit for him (as he is certainly not a top 10 (or even 20) talent 9according to most draftniks), i.e. its blaine gabbert/christian ponder type territory).
I agree 100%. I never really wanted him, but I keep hearing great things about him, along with alot of what you commented on. He's young, inexperienced, and definately a project. But I've also heard he's a very bright guy, and we have a head start with Mike Sherman being his ex coach (not sure if head coach or off cordinator), and he is extremely talented and was very highly recruited coming out of college. I agree that it isn't the best value to take him at 8, maybe with Seattle taking flynn we could now move down but I still doubt it. I don't think they would want to risk losing him. Listen, my excitement for this year is all but gone. In my perfect scenerio after the Marshall trade and Manning fiasco, I would've wanted Flynn and hoped Blackmon would fall or we would trade up for him. Now it looks like we might be forced to take Tannehill, and at least that would bring some possibilities for the future, and again, I think Matt Moore could get us a wildcard. I think everybody around him would need to play well, but I think he could at least manage the team well enough into a wildcard race. I know alot of Jets fans are making fun of the dolphins, but I would think they would empathize with us. We are in somewhat similar situations. Not able to get the free agents we want, and have GM's that haven't shown us much to believe they know what they are doing. Also, IMO are both on the verge of going into full rebuild.
Wow, what's going on down there in FL? I consider the Dolphins to be the media's most over-rated team on a consistent basis, and once again when the Manning sweepstakes began all we heard (in NY from Francesa especially) was how Miami was the favorite, it made the most sense, with that defense and the weapons they have they'd contend for a Super Bowl, blah blah blah. It feels like the moment the Dolphins take a step forward, all of a sudden they are the team that can challenge NE, and they are usually picked to finish ahead of us in the standings. Now this. Part of me is happy to see them repeatedly spurned, but I don't know, maybe this is too much. When I actually thought they had the lead in the Manning derby at first I was pissed, but then I thought that could be just what WE needed - so we'd get back to seriously build a dominant defense like we've been promised. Tough off season for Dolphin fans. Time to reconsider all that aqua and orange. Even the interior of my parents house eventually got rid of all its 1970's color schemes. Those colors got to go.
Yup, not easy being a dolphins fan at all. I'm only 21 so I haven't had the privaledge of enjoying the glory years during the 70's, and the Marino years. The only playoff win I watched was against the Colts in 2000. Even then, I was only 10 so my fandom wasn't quite there. My dad is a die hard fan so I grew up into it. Never really had a choice. Trust me, I wouldn't trade the dolphins for any other team (not that I could if I wanted to), but believe me I'm jealous of the Jets success over the last few years. I can't stand them, but I gotta give them credit. P.S. I agree with you LogeSection, for some reason the media does seem to get a little too excited with Miami. I have no idea why. I remember in Nick Sabans second season, I think it was Sports Illustrated that picked us to go to the superbowl. Whadda Joke. I still love my team, but it sucks when the offseason lately has been the only time to have fun and get excited, and then this shit happens and I can't even enjoy that. It really takes the fun out of being a fan.
I have already written off the 2012 season. Fuck this team. We need a new owner, new GM, and a new QB.
