I don't agree about VT. I think he was a terribly unlucky QB to have served his time on some crappy teams. Think about how we always discuss Sanchez and Geno being "ruined" because of poor coaching, teammates, etc. But VT got pummeled for years in TB, labeled a bust with near record setting INTs, and then came back to have a very nice second half to his career. When you think about it he is the very definition of a player who was supposed to have been ruined by being on a bad team, right? But players like Sanchez and Geno aren't going to be playing at 40 and they aren't going to be excellent starters well into their 30s. These are all indications that VT was VERY talented but his early years were simple lost due to circumstances.

BTW, I really get what you're saying about Sanfhez and Fitz. In many ways Sanchez performs exactly as well as the talent around him, no more and no less, and he was often the limiting factor. But I look at it this way, if Sanchez's boat can rise because of a high tide of talent around him then VT's boat could just as easily have been beached by the pathetic state of the Buccs of the '80s. Remember that this is the franchise that made Steve Young run for his life or spend most of every game picking grass out of his teeth (or picking his teeth out of the grass.....).

Unfortunately, Sanchez being second really is humiliating. That bothers me MUCH more than VT being out TD leader. Come to think of it, this really is a great indication of how much the NFL rules have changed. If O'Brien were playing today there's no way he doesn't put up 30 TDs at least once.

    Anyway, that's my $.02.

you've taken an illogical position. you cannot say you want more td passes on one hand and you don't want Fitzpatrick to break the td record on the other hand.

are you really so wrapped up in some anti fitz or pro geno position you took on the Internet that you've taken to illogical arguments?

I wouldn't mind another season of Fitz so long as he is also grooming Petty and, preferably, another QB prospect for the future. Petty is hardly a sure thing and I want to roll the dice as much as possible. The absolute worst case scenario in developing two QBs who end up both capable of starting is that you end up being able to turn one of them into future assets. That is not a bad thing! I figure Fitz is a good, solid veteran who is smart and may well be a good model for a young QB. After all, it isn't that Fitz isn't a solid player, it's that he is physically limited. Maybe bring him back next year (assuming his asking price is reasonable), have Petty, get one more QB prospect. The only problem I see is do we keep another QB as a veteran reserve for if/when Fitz gets hurt? That'd mean carrying four QBs.... that'd suck but if it maximizes our chances for future success by developing a franchise QB then I say suck it up and do it. Maybe we can find a QB prospect who is also a decent punter.... ;)

Define foreseeable future because I don't think we can have sustained success with him, it would be a non issue if he pulls a Rich Gannon but I doubt it.

What does Geno have to do with the price of rice in China? We're talking about Fitzpatrick. But anyway agree to disagree.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of your illogical position.

Fitzpatrick being the record holder for td's in a season for the Jets seems funny to me, but if he breaks the record then it is what it is.

Nothing like ending a completely illogical argument with the most overused cliché in history.

Fitz is the repository of our lowered expectations. When he rises to the challenge we are plesently surprised. Geno.... well there are no expectations.

I'm not big on Fitz as the answer at QB, but the guy is fun to watch on the field in between the whistles and even moreso after the whistle.

I want him to hang around as a mentor for whoever replaces him, because he obviously enjoys football and life, and that's just what you want a QB to do. I just hope his need to be a franchise QB doesn't supersede that. I want that to rub off on a good young prospect.

Fitzpatrick has actually played himself into an interesting situation for 2016, especially if he keeps it up the final 5 games. He made $3.25 million this year. It's possible that a QB needy team will throw money at him that the Jets won't match. Fitz clearly has no problem moving on to a new team, so it could be interesting. I am like you, I feel the Jets still need to address the QB situation, but at the same time, I would like FITZMAGIC on the roster in 2016.

Fitzpatrick is a really good leader and that's something that's always worth having around. The Jets kept Mark Brunell for a couple of years because he had the same steadying influence that Fitzpatrick has.

My vision of Fitzpatrick coming in the door was a scrappy QB who would take the team as far as it had the talent to otherwise go. He seemed like the kind of guy who occasionally threw the pin and kept the hand grenade. Based on what I've seen this year that last part was inaccurate. He really doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Most of his bad throws are desperation affairs, with his overall skill level sometimes being part of the desperate situation.

I don't see a team offering him more than $5 million which I am sure we will offer to keep him. Browns are the only team with a real need at QB but I don't think they will throw a ton of money his way since they just paid McCown. I'd say signs point to him staying here on a two year deal.

I'm guessing the grenade blows up in Dallas. I'll be there so it's pretty much a given.

Vinny Testaverde Jr. I don't even think he's playing this year... had to sit this year since he switched schools or something. Either way, probably wont' be more than a backup at Miami.
