You are right here. But I'd really like to see major improvement from week 1 to week 17. If we don't get major improvement then I'll be worried.
That's a very good point, I didn't think of that. Even so, more than half of those guys really turned it around in the second season. 1996 JAC 9 7 2 1 Coughlin 1997 TAM 10 6 1 1 Dungy 1982 WAS 8 1 4 0 Gibbs 1984 NYG 9 7 1 1 Parcells 1985 CLE 8 8 0 1 Shottenheimer 2005 CHI 11 5 0 1 Smith, Lovie
Thank you, you're correct. This is one of the ones (newest coaches) that wasn't listed on the site I was looking at.
Yes but look at the second years ... only Bellichick had a bad 2nd season. 1992 CLE 7 9 - - Bellichick 1993 PIT 9 7 0 1 Cowher 1982 WAS 8 1 4 0 Gibbs 1984 NYG 9 7 1 1 Parcells 2000 PHI 11 5 1 1 Reid Personally, I would rank Holmgren over Reid, but that's for another post and another board. The first season records pretty much indicate that first year head coaches will not do very well, and that making the playoffs is a major accomplishment.
Good point! And looking at our schedule, I can definitely pick out at least 7 reasonable wins with 3-4 potential surprises. I think everyone would be estatic if we made it to the playoffs in Manginis first year after the horrid season we had last year. It would be very impressive and the future would look very promising. bolded reasonable wins red possible wins Sep 10 @Tennessee 1:00pm Sep 17 New England 4:15pm Sep 24 @Buffalo 1:00pm Oct 1 Indianapolis 1:00pm Oct 8 @Jacksonville 4:05pm Oct 15 Miami 4:15pm Oct 22 Detroit 1:00pm Oct 29 @Cleveland 4:15pm Week 9 BYE Nov 12 @New England 1:00pm Nov 19 Chicago 1:00pm Nov 26 Houston 1:00pm Dec 3 @Green Bay 1:00pm Dec 10 Buffalo 1:00pm Dec 17 @Minnesota 1:00pm Dec 25 @Miami 8:30pm Dec 31 Oakland 1:00pm Optimistic, yes, impossible, hell no.
Absolutely No Chance of Playoffs this year Time for a reality check. This team has more questions than my 2 year old son. We could best case scenario it to death but it would be just short of an act of God that they make the playoffs. New Head Coach+New Offensive Co+New Offense+New Defensive Co+New Defense+No known starter at QB+Overhaul of O-Line+Loss of Franchise D Player+Few F/A Pickups=4(wins) I like what Tangini has done so far, more to the point I like what they haven't done which is overpay, overspend or bring in future has-beens. If they apply their pragmatic approach to the draft and personnel decisions we will be back in the playoffs in 2-3 years with a team that we may be able to keep together for a while.
I like your thinking! Any given sunday (so they say) I'm real excited about this new year and new front office.
I thought this was in interesting thread last year, and now we can discuss Mangini in terms of second year coaches. Note that Crennel got worse in year 2 like Beli did (both in Cle). Hopefully this is not a trend from the Belichick coaching tree. I know our schedule is supposed to be harder this year, but for the most part the good coaches have improved records in there second season, especially in the playoffs.
If he does as well this year as he did last year then he's for real. If he doesn't then what does that mean?
Nothing for sure, but for the most part coaches have improved in there second year, and the ones that don't don't stick around.
not so. Vinnie was the QB for Herm's first year, wasn't he? 10-6, lost to the Raiders in the first round. A new QB didn't come in until Herm's second year. or am I mistaken?
Lots of people here are predicting 10 wins again, isn't that the measure? Aren't all teams and in turn coaches graded on wins and losses?
That new QB (Pennington) predated the Edwards era. Testaverde was also the QB for Edwards' second year. Then he got injured.
