what sucks about Coleman was that he showed alot of promise, but only ended up looking worse every year. I still remember his first INT against Carson Palmer in the closing minutes of a tight opening day game against the Bengals. I guess he set the bar too high for his own talent level to reach...
2 Paul Raymond WR 1 5'10" 185 22 R That TD drop in week 2 plus existing depth at the position makes Raymond expendable. 63 Kyle DeVan OL - C 1 6'2" 306 23 R Woody was a Pro-Bowl Center in NE. He can be the 3rd-string Center behind Will Montgomery. 95 Thomas Johnson DL – DT 1 6'2" 305 27 3 With Kareem Brown and C.J. Moseley around, I just can't see Johnson, who hasn't been noteworthy in preseason, making the cut. 38 Rudy Burgess DB – CB 1 5'10" 186 23 R Already seven deep at CB with Revis, Lowery, Barrett, Coleman, Poteat, Miller and Carroll. I can't see how Burgess can survive. Ditto for James Ihedigbo and Ron Girault but cut-down is only to 75 and not 53.
Wow I'm a little surprised Musa smith was tossed in this round of cuts. I thought for sure the duel between him and caulcrick would last till the final cutdowns...
OK, let's make this a more interesting thread... Kareem Brown Marques Murrell Cody Spencer Ahmad Carroll Musa Smith Jason Pociask Wallace Wright CJ Mosley Bubba Franks Keep three. Go.
There's way too many keepers in that list. I'm sticking with Brown, Murrell, Spencer, Posciak, Wright and Mosely.
I called this earlier in the thread.....I figured Musa was the odd man out...we weren't gonna carry 4 HB's on the active roster
Agreed. For the 53-man cut-down, here's a more reasonable list: 44 James Ihedigbo DB – CB 1 6'1" 202 24 2 38 Rudy Burgess DB – CB 1 5'10" 186 23 R 61 Bryan Mattison DL – DE 1 6'3" 272 24 R 79 Ropati Pitoitua DL – DE 1 6'8" 290 23 R 95 Thomas Johnson DL – DT 1 6'2" 305 27 3 51 Blair Phillips LB 1 6'1" 248 24 1 47 Brandon Renkart LB 1 6'2" 236 23 R 63 Kyle DeVan OL - C 1 6'2" 306 23 R 62 Matt McChesney OL - G 1 6'4" 307 26 2 75 Robert Turner OL - G 1 6'4" 308 23 1 64 Stanley Daniels OL - G 1 6'4" 320 23 1 78 Wayne Hunter OL - T 1 6'5" 303 27 5 48 A.J. Schable TE 1 6'4" 273 24 2 18 David Ball WR 1 6'1" 200 24 1 2 Paul Raymond WR 1 5'10" 185 22 R 19 Larry Brackins WR 1 6'4" 221 25 1 To be mysteriously placed on Injured Reserves and out for the year: 9 Erik Ainge QB 1 6'5" 221 22 R 71 Nate Garner OL - T 1 6'7" 318 23 R
As a Safety Barrett would be OK. He knows Mangini's defensive system well. I think his tendency to play 10 yards off the receiver wouldn't hurt him there. Even with the special teams plus, I think Carroll is just too bad in coverage. I'd never want him involved in anything other than dime work (and would prefer he stay off the field completly). So I think I'd dump Carroll first. Rhodes / E Smith / Elam / Barrett makes for a good group at Safety.
Cuts of RB R. Kinlaw + RB M. Smith = Chatham makes the team. Caulcrick probably on the PS. The other guys were so far down the list that it doesn't really matter. I don't even know who T. Coleman was.
With the Giants looking for DE / OLB, I don't think we could put Murrell on the PS. He'd get snapped up (much like Danny Ware did last season).
One more thought on Barrett - I'll bet his recent salary cut was for him to play Safety. Safeties make much less than CB do. So the team could justify reducing his pay if they planned to move him.
