I'm really not sure what the whole "he's white" thing has to do with it, but that was an amusing parenthetic statement. Hell, I'd love to see Toby Gerhart on this team for a mid to low pick next season and he's white. The idea that people would judge Woodhead to be insufficient because he's white is absurd. I'm really not sure who suggested that, but it's ridiculous.
Agreed! I think with his short 5'7" hieghth and 195 pound frame he would be great behind a top tier O-line like we have. Defenders wouldn't be able to see him until it was too late and then it's all about speed.
I have 75 different avatars so far I have made and use. Some better than others. My favorits so far are: and the one i'm using now.
1.) Not a freaking thing to an intelligent football fan and it means way way more to people that love him. 2.) Just a couple of mental midgets.
http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/jets/archives/2009/09/jets_make_some.html September 5, 2009 Jets make some cuts By MARK CANNIZZARO The Jets made at least some of their final cuts on Friday, though they're not announcing any of them until Saturday afternoon when Rex Ryan has a conference call with reporters. An inside source has told The Post of several of the players who were told on Friday they were cut. Tight end Kareem Brown, fullback Jehuu Caulcrick and tackle Stanley Daniels were among the group. Others believed to be cut included receiver Britt Davis, guard Ryan McKee, tight end Kevin Brock from Rutgers, running back Anthony Kimble, tight end Jack Simmons, who had a dropped TD pass Thursday and receiver Marcus Henry The Jets are required to be down to the 53-player limit by 6 p.m. Saturday. As of Friday night it's believed that running back Danny Woodhead, who rushed for 158 yards and two TDs in Thursday night's preseason finale, was still on the roster. The Jets' dilemma is if they try to keep Woodhead on the practice squad surely another NFL team will sign him to their 53-man roster. As one Jets player said, Rex Ryan "told the team more moves would be made to make our team better.'' Among those moves is something at punter, where the Jets were awaiting other teams' final cuts so they can replace inconsistet Reggie Hodges with an upgrade. The Jets have had their eye on Jacksonville punter Josh Podlesh, who might be cut in favor of Steven Weatherford.
Well, if somebody will sign Woodhead off our PT then why don't we try to trade him? Either that or keep him on the 53 and wait for somebody to lose a back to injury. Or even better yet, play him. If Caulcrick is gone that would make you think Woodhead made it though.
Why is the only discussion between WR and Woodhead? surely there must be some other backup scrub hiding under the astroturf we can cut in favor of Wood.
After next years draft and the team is trying to sign undrafted players to free agent contracts how are they going to answer the question "Why should I sign with the Jets when Woodhead did everything possible to be a Jet and they still cut him?".
You can say that about any player who gets cut. In addition its not always whether a player was good enough or had potential its about what slots teh team had open and did he fit a need for our current team/lineup.
yeah thats something that is going to cross an undrafted rookies mind. not the fact that a team is offering him the chance he has always hoped for. even if that thought did enter UDFA it wouldn't mean anything. most of those guys go undrafted for a reason.
Offensive roster predictions Let's breakdown the 53/55 man roster decision. 3 are gone for Special Teams: Feely, Dearth, and a Punter who i believe the Jets are still looking for. Then we likely roster 25 offensive guys, 25 defensive guys, + 2 more D guys as depth during Pace and Ellis suspensions. So my 25 man offensive prediction is this: D'BRICKASHAW FERGUSON ALAN FANECA NICK MANGOLD BRANDON MOORE DAMIEN WOODY WAYNE HUNTER/KRACALIK (only one of them) ROBERT TURNER MATT SLAUSON KELLEN CLEMENS MARK SANCHEZ ERIK AINGE THOMAS JONES LEON WASHINGTON TONY RICHARDSON SHONN GREENE DANNY WOODHEAD DUSTIN KELLER MIKE HARTSOCK JERRICHO COTCHERY CHANSI STUCKEY DAVID CLOWNEY BRAD SMITH WALLACE WRIGHT ANDRAE ALLISON That's actually on 24 men. for the 25th, maybe it's a 3rd TE we don't have o n the roster yet, maybe Caulcrick, or another O lineman. Maybe they leave even leave an extra slot for D. The only 2 guys that have changed for me since before TC is Hartsock and Allison.
Ryan may want to keep an extra DB, so that could cost the O a spot... but I think it isn't Woodhead vs Wright, it's Allison or Cloweny vs Woodhead, much more likely Allison vs Woodhead. I mention Clwney because Ryan talked about getting him more time with the ones, but in the thrid preseason game I didn't see him out there with the first unit... did he get any snaps? I think an O lineman is much more likely to clear waivers than any of these 3, so I agree with the O linemen kept in your projection. How do the Ellis and Pace suspensions impact the original roster? Does that give the Jets a temporary extra spot or two to work with?
I agree with you in that respect. However, if someone is going to use the argument that we need to keep some mediocre player that had a great game because other UDFA's or Fa's will not ever come to the Jets for fear of not getting an honest shot, they can chew on the following: Bart Scott - UDFA whose career owes a huge part to Rex Westerman- Ditto so far Jim Leonhard- read Bart Scott James Ihedigbo Wallace Wright Robert Turner Ropati Pitoitua Mike DeVito Marques Murrell Kenwin Cummings Jason Trusnik Brandon Renkart Jay Feely The Jets can use them as examples of UDFA's currently playing on the team and the fact that historically Rex Ryan has done well by UDFA's. Wow at some of the logic people use.......
