Never got the hate for him.

He was the face of the fanbase, so what? He was passionate, loud, and always tried to get the crowd into the game. Unless I'm missing something that is how a fan should be.

One of my favorite parts of going to a Jets game is the opening chant during kickoff. The tradition has to continue with or without him.

wow. Surprised at the vitriol for Ed. Kinda makes me think someone else won't bother being the leader because of possible repercussions.

    The hate is stupid.

Stupid to hate on the guy. Never understood why people railed against him.

I heard Fireman Ed is selling a green tractor on Craigslist. Can anyone confirm this?

Give me a fucking break. I usually like your posts, but JWWS is correct. Look at this:

Those are the words of a d-bag.

The guy could have said any number of respectable things.

He chose to equate himself to the players on the field.

Being a firefighter should be something to be respected. But I'd be surprised if this guy had put any real gear on in the past decade just because of his "celebrity" status.

That's a leader? I'd almost prefer this gay-ass alternating chant the Jets are proposing.

yeah, you have to support the guy. He might have got a little too into it, but he started it out of a love for the team. And no matter what you say about him, it took guys to get up every week and rally the Jets crowd. Any fame he got out of it he deserved for the effort he put into it in the first place.

Without him the place will be like a museum. Do you think anyone else has the balls to step up and regularly do this? dont think so because it takes effort, confidence and also the willingness to know you are also going to get flak for it from some section of the fans.

Get used to the quiet from now on.

He didn't get flack for the cheer. He quit because he got in fights with fans over his support for Sanchez.

“It’s definitely different not doing it. When you’re able to get 80,000 people up — and I was fortunate enough to do that — and not being able to do that, it’s tough, it’s definitely tough. I’d be lying to say that I left the way I wanted to leave. I left because it was time but that wasn’t the way I wanted to go out. I wanted to go out like any athlete; you always want to go out on top. I wanted to win a championship and go down the Canyon of Heroes.”

I have no idea what to say about this quote from him. Anybody that thought he was the face of the franchise or that..and this one really bugs me "he would get the fans really into it" ...if anyone thought that was his reasoning, they have no idea about what this him helped him achieve personally and how much the attention meant to him.

My personal opinion of the guy being gone is thank god...just one less thing to be embarrassed about rooting for this team.

I used to silently pray, when at games, that in the beginning...on his brothers shoulders...that his brother would sneeze and throw him off and he would land on his mouth to shut him the f up.

That's not what I heard in the interview with JetsTwit.com (link in OP). He said and meant LIKE an athlete, not equating himself to an athlete. He wanted to go out as a winner, meaning the Jets win a championship and we could all revel in it. He made that pretty clear. At least that's what I read into it.

I understand that other people perceptions are different from my own, I guess I just take it more light-kindheartedly than others. Maybe its the evil sunshiner in me

Off Topic: BTW - I am waiting for your evil farmers avatar (parodied Wood's American Gothic) to return. That's even better than hot dog squirt. Getting tired of seeing IATA's GF

I can understand. I haven't had the time to listen to the interview and don't think it's really worth it to make the time. If the text quoted doesn't really reflect the sentiment, then maybe I was wrong to jump to a conclusion. But aside from my small interactions with Ed and my understanding of the way things went down with him over the past few years, I have little invested in the subject.

By the way, that's Big Blocker's GF you're talking about, buddy.

I've been thinking about changing my av, maybe the Grim and Frostbitten Farmers would be a good bridge toward the next one.

    Edit: there you go
