The SOJ doesn't make two AFCC's, I'll give you that. But if the new jets are only going to get there and choke, I'd rather my heart break come early in the year or wild card round with an occasional burst deeper like the old days. That said, the SOJs are dead, and the new Jets are a story in progress. I just want to see the next chapter without brainless playcalling. Do you really want to be the AFC Eagles?
I think all the HC jobs have been filled. So Schotty can only be an offensive coordinator for another team & since that's a sideways move & not promotion, I think Jets would have to approve him leaving. Right now, I'm really pissed off at Schotty but I haven't slept since the game ended. Maybe after I step away from it all & get some sleep ... I'll change my mind.
that play action play on third down on the goal line was one of the worst calls ive seen in a while. theres no reason why you dont pound it up the middle then go over the top.
inexcusable not using the no huddle in the 4th quarter, fuckin' moron and not using Greene on the goal line!
I don't know if demoting is possible... (QB coach is the kind of job he seems to be at least adequate at)
Also, I can remember not too long ago when good teams came out with scripted first drives and almost always put points up first possession. This team gets a three and out most of its opening drives. Mind boggling.
I've been on the fence with Schotty. And, it should be pointed out, that our offence has actually been let down a bit by the defence in both of the Championship Games. Last year we couldn't stop the pass, this year we couldn't stop the run. Meanwhile Sanchez has thrown for about 500 yards combined, 4 TDs and one interception (and that was at the end of the Colts game when the game was pretty much over). But... the third and goal and fourth and goal calls were just awful. The third down in particular - we should have been running it to make sure it was as easy as possible on fourth down. And then to not use Greene... So, for screwing up when I was genuinely starting to hope that the comeback to end all comebacks might be achieved, I'd punt him. Literally. Off a bridge. Into shark infested waters.
Can they strip his play calling ability? I mean even that is a step in the right direction. The guy takes the ball out of greenes hands at 2nd and goal on the 1 after he had been pounding the rock all drive. I mean thats the definition of moronic.
The misuse of our power back Shonn Green is what gets to me, LT is great but yesterday we needed our power back. The game was different in the second half with Green in the backfield. Green is our future, he should be our featured back. Also not running the hurry up offense is the second half when you're down three scores is just plain fucking stupid, the third and one pass play near the goal line is enough to get his ass fired. Where was our power back? Why didn't LT try to do his usual leap over the pile? In closing FUCK YOU SHOTTY!! HOPE THEY FIRE YOUR STUPID ASS!!!!
Second and goal I just cannot fathom why Schotty doesn't keep running Greene, he's our power back the guy we need to forge a path to the endzone. Instead he tries to pass plays and then a total waste call putting LT in on fourth down, who just didn't have it. Very bloody frustrating.
Really, what is being discussed is Schotty's whole body of work. The 15 first quarters, yesterday, et al. When Rex defers, the other team does not have the ball for half the quarter. The Jets do get their opportunities, and they fail. The slow starts this year have been disappointing. With a week of preparation one would think a coach could design something. No TD's! A case can be made that the defense lost both AFC championship games. That has nothing to do with BS's performance and his body of work. His performance yesterday was poor. End arounds to your slowest receiver? One step drop and a slant on the goal line when your QB has been getting passes blocked all game? NOt just bad strategy, but extremely risky. Pounding LT inside on 4th down against the best ground defense in football with more than a yard to the goal? Let's face it. The game plan was poor. Everyone knew that the Steelers were vulnerable to the spread offense, but the Jets came oiut and tried to run. All you had to do was watch the Pats game and you would know how to score on the Pitt D. Heck, the Steelers have been the same for years. Arizona chewed them up the same way in the SB a few years back. Why be obstinate about it? Maybe Rex had something to do with it, but I will not blame Rex for the offense if I don't blame schotty for the D. We all saw Rex on the sideline signalling the O to move faster during that pathetic drive in the 4th quarter. He did not appear to have more input than that. No, the D made this game nearly impossible to win. But Schotty's game plan also contributed, and his performance this season and last warrants his being replaced.
I get that everybody hates him (I don't love him either), but what great OC is going to come in and make an improvement? When you look at Sanchez's performance this year, especially in the post season, do you really want to blow it up and start over? I know everyone is pissed and needs a scapegoat, but the defense lost just as many games for us this year (if not more) than the offense....including this game. I'd be shocked if Schotty is fired.
Just promote Callahan. Keep it in house and you don't have much of a change. The in-game play calling has just been too inconsistent. What I don't get is the drive before the safety you could see Rex motioning to hurry up, Sanchez looked like he knew to hurry up but every damn play took forever. That has to be on Schotty.
