Who trains players during the offseason? There’s tons of player resources during the offseason, and these trainers understand concepts and positional strategies. Leadership training certainly exists, I’m sure there’s opportunity for strategical training, clock management, motivation tactics, rules courses, etc..

Coaching clinics are pretty pointless. It's just a networking thing where you'll sit in on sessions where you sit in on sessions where it's a lot of self congratulating with very little knowledge actually gained. A coach might come away from one of them with a couple of new drills to do with their position groups and maybe a couple of new, albeit insignificant wrinkles to put into their playbooks, but it's mainly there just for coaches to network so they'll have a soft place to land when it's time to change jobs.

Good point for sure. I think its an ego thing, these coaches think they know everything already. They absolutely should be doing training and development in the offseason.

    --

One thing that bothers me the most about the Jets is that there are little to no alumni relationships here. That one is on Woody's leadership. There should be an extensive Jets network for players and coaches to tap into. A guy like Robert Saleh could meet with Parcells to learn about how best to deal with the NY Media, for example. When it comes time to replace the offensive coordinator, we don't end up with a bum like Hackett Jr. because we don't have to rely solely on Saleh's network, tap into alumni connections...

And.. don't get me started on the players...huge benefits to alumni relationships there. Sauce & Revis talk about breaking down film, Mcdonald learns some moves from John Abraham.. idk.. so many benefits there

And lastly even just fun for fans. Why not have "Jets-Con" every summer? With current and alumni Jets speaking engagements... We would fill the place

Those are all great ideas and great points. I hadn’t given much thought to the alumni pipeline but you’re right, we really don’t leverage them or even show them much in the way of appreciation. Not for nothing, if I’m Rob Saleh I’d be on the phone with a guy like Belicheck and flat out asking what his price would be for a mentorship. Just for clock management alone we’ve watched Herm, Rex, Bowles, and now Saleh have extensive time as a HC and never improve even slightly on managing the end of half/end of game clock. Have we discovered some untapped potential for resources? Like, no one ever thought of this?

Well we traded away Abraham and Revis and also got bent over by Revis. So when we tell our good players to go fuck themselves, I get why they’re not around.

We also fire the majority of our coaches after usually putting them in bad situations personnel wise.

There’s more Jets that it would be nice to have around and involved in this stuff though.

Last year, Saleh was lifeless and clearly being told what to say at the podium. I can't believe that in week 5, leading up to week 5, he's already there again. This whole thing with the cadence. Now he's saying there is no problem with it, there never was, and that it was made up. Made up? He's the one who fucking said it!

There has been no progress, no adjustments, know anything with this guy and his job. He's even gone as far as to ridicule reporters for stating that he doesn't have accountability because he doesn't want to embarrass players by making them do push-ups. Of course I'm paraphrasing, but that clearly shows he has no understanding of how to hold players accountable or motivate them.

It may only be early October, but this season seems lost. This team will never go anywhere under this guy and this staff.

You'd think Saleh would see our penalty numbers during his tenure and realize that whatever he's doing isn't working. Is he just totally unaware of how bad the problem even is?

Yeah that’s been a problem with our team historically…feels like we’ve too often been willing to let our guys go, even guys who we drafted or developed. Offhand, you can name Hugh Douglas, John Abraham, Jonathan Vilma, Demario Davis, Revis, etc. Interesting that they are mostly on the defensive side of the ball, but still…all those guys went on to have good success elsewhere, so they proved they were good players. Part of it is our incessant changing of defensive coaches and constantly moving from 3-4 to 4-3 and back again, so that the new coaches gave us the talk track how these guys don’t fit their system bullshit. And it IS bullshit, because great coaches will maximize their scheme to their players’ strengths, not try to box players into their rigid schemes. And the players have all gone on to much better success than our ex coaches have.

But there have been a few offensive guys too…I wasn’t happy when Bradway fucked up the Laveraneous Coles deal and let the Redskins steal him in free agency. Santana Moss also left and had success also in Washington. We traded away Keyshawn and I know his attitude rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but I did not mind having an offensive guy with an attitude. We lost a lot when we traded him.

But we have historically been one of the worst drafting teams, and then it sure feels like when we do actually draft some great players, we let them go way too often under the bullshit that “they aren’t worth the contract they want”, or “they don’t fit our scheme” or some other bullshit excuse.

I always hated how Rex let Cotchery go for his boy Derrick Mason. Jerricho was the heart and soul of that offense and Mason didn't do anything with us.

You hit on a great point though. We have had a horrible history of signing our developed, homegrown players.

Not only did Mason not do anything, he created a ton of division and ended up getting shipped out. We deserved that honestly. For all of Tannenbaum’s supposed cap genius skill, he sure didn’t have much clue on how to keep a great team together. I think if they kept Edwards/Holmes/Cotchery and invested in the OL Sanchez would have evolved to a decent QB. We hate on him alot, deservedly, but he did also make some great throws and got hot in some really clutch moments. When this clown show of an organization sent him out there against BAL with an undrafted rookie C they just signed from GB a few days earlier he had his soul knocked out of his body. He was never the same since.

We basically bent over backwards for Rex and let everything on offense, that helped Sanchez for the first 2 years, leave and just focused on getting Rex his defensive pieces.

He definitely would’ve been better then he ended up. Shipping out Edwards/Cotchery/Brad Smith for Plax/Mason was GM malpractice for a quarterback that really did take a huge leap in year 2.

Funny how we basically did the same strange swaps with our defensive line this past offseason.

I've already made up my mind about this coaching staff. They should be gone after this season, win or lose. Any wins I'll attribute to the players overcoming the coaching limitations because it's been four years of futility. I honestly think they could have the teams that went to the AFC championship games back in the late 2000s and they wouldn't even sniff a wild card spot.

it does seem like they are outcoached weekly

the eagles game last year felt like a turning point. Sound, bold decision making and they befuddled the opposing QB.

But then the Jets lost 6 of the next 8 and the Eagles QB got befuddled every week so it turned out to not be much of an accomplishment anyway

proof that Saleh is a incompetent coach and braindead and the Jets ain't making the playoffs as long as he is coach, this is all on the Woody's they keep hiring all the wrong people, unless they sell the team we may never go to the playoffs in my lifetime

    1. 1st and goal on the 1 yard line and just trots out breece hall out there when he has a beast in Braelon Allen who would 99% chance would have scored, my 5 year old nephew asked why Braelon wasn't given the ball, so apparently my 5 year old nephew is smarter than our so called leader and ceo of our football team.

    2. always never his fault, year 1 it was no talent on the team, year 2 it was Zack Wilsons fault, year 3 it was AR injury, lets face it if Will Levis wasn't more braindead than Bobby boy we are a 1-3 team right now staring at 1-4 tomorrow and possibly 2-5 or 1-6 the next 3 games. How in the world is that even possible with this roster? Does Bobby boy need a proballer at every position? Trust me even if we get Hassen back and trade for Adams it won't fix the fact that we got 2 braindead coaches coaching this offense, if they can't put up points with 3 good receivers and 2 great running backs what makes you think Adams will make a world of difference?

    3. the undisicpline of this team is evident, They are playing at the highest level and everyone is getting paid generational life changing money but these idiots can't even line up right? we can blame the refs all we want but they definately are not biased against the Jets espicially with the league putting the Jets on prime time games and the London game like every week, 15 penalties? False start on the 1 yard line probally erasing a touchdown? roughing passers in crucial situations every freakin time the last 4 years? Common get real, how many dumb penalties has Jfm had on Denver this year? The undiscpline of this team reflects on Robert and no one else.

    4. Robert said in the press conference there is no need to embarass grown men and have them running laps or doing pushups for the dumb crap they do on the field, obviously he is a soft sponge who doesn't discipline his players

    5. Every time players do something dumb he just stands there like a statue, he is like the Zack Wilson of coaching, I never seen him once on the sideline chewing a player out, all you do is stand there doing nothing being a chearleader.

We have a massive coaching disadvantage every game. No one can overcome that, not even HOF QB. At this point I am hoping somehow we make play-offs with 10 Ws and Woody will be smart enough to get rid of him next year in spite of that.

The Jets are setting themselves up for massive future failure and another rebuild, there is no way the Jets sniff a superbowl with Saleh and Hackett at helm, yet they keep wanting to mortgage the future for 30+ year olds. After this season Rodgers may say F this I am done and than what? It's another rebuild with no Qb. Or best case he plays next year and that is our last shot to win a superbowl and you know Rodgers will still want Hackett at helm and probally Saleh so we aint winning a superbowl next year either. And suprise suprise thats when the big bucks are due to Hall, Garrett, JJ, Sauce. And there is no way these guys will want wan't to remain part of this clown organization and go thru another rebuild. So best case scenario We do sniff the playoffs but right now its looking highly unlikely, but there is no way we sniff the Superbowl this year or next year with Robert and Hackett at Helm, and we will be screwed for another 10 years because you know the clowns at helm will never draft and develop a Quarterback. If you think they are panicking now, next year will be total desperation with Rodgers playing his last season, they will be trading 1st round picks for 30 year olds and capstrapping themselves for the next 5 years for no reason.
