I agree with most of this 100%…my only comments: 1. I don’t think he played ANY role in selected Hack as OC…that was 100% to get Rodgers…nothing more. If we weren’t in play for Rodgers, I don’t for a minute believe we would have hired Hack. And as such, I have no idea how much say, if any, he had in the matter…that smells like SUCH a Woody move…like Favre did, like Tebow did, etc. EVERYONE knew Hack sucks…hell, Denver didn’t even let him finish his first year that’s how bad he was. The ONLY person who wanted Hack was Rodgers, so we went and got him as a recruiting effort. Nothing more, nothing less. 2. Agree that he’s had good moves and bad, and at this point, it’s looking like more bad than good, and in the end, after 6 years on the job, the record is no better. But the part I’m not sure of is when you say you think we can do better. Really? I’ve had to live through Idzik and Bradway and MacCagnon. I have SERIOUS doubts that we can do better. Not if Woody is involved in the process. He’s gotten it wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME. Sad to say, but if JD is fired (deservedly so I think), I do NOT think Woody will do better. I think Woody will fuck it up again and we’ll be stuck with just another schmuck who is unqualified for the role. The ONLY way Woody would do better is if he can find a proven guy … like he did with Parcells. But who is that guy?
On a Hack selection, I can find you A LOT of proof how Saleh wanted him, how he was fortunate to get him after Hack made millions with Denver, and many other praises. Same with JD praising him. If you are contending this was all an act, and Woody forced them, I need to see some credible reports on that. When you have 1st party saying something, giving numerous examples why the move was made, and looking like they are really happy, to overturn all that there has to be something better than a hunch. Now was part of the reason some thinking that an added benefit was to lure Rodgers? I would think so. But still, to me this was JD and Saleh who didn't think Hack was as bad as he was. It ultimately also falls on JD. As far as bringing someone better, Tanny did a good job for us. So it wasn't always bad, I think Woody can stumble into someone good. Heck, unlike Mac and Idzik the process to get JD - a former scout from winning organizations - wasn't a bad one, unfortunately looks like it didn't work out. They did hold on to him too long, but... I think there is a real chance next one will be better.
Oh come on … I’m not buying ANY of the bullshit coach speak…what are they gonna say? “Oh yeah well we can’t stand him but he was forced on us by Woody or Rodgers”? It was a forced move to get Rodgers…whether it came from Woody or Rodgers (or both), it came from someone above Saleh’s pay grade. It’s like with HC interviews at halftime, or GM interviews ahead of the draft…you’re not going to get any truth or meaningful insights there. They had to hire him to go all in on Rodgers so they accepted it and said all the right things. But come on, just because it’s first person doesn’t mean they are being 100% truthful. Again, I stand by my opinion that JD had little to no real input or veto power in hiring Hack. We wanted Rodgers…Woody wanted it, and I think JD also wanted Rodgers as he’s getting desperate after Zach, and so that meant bringing in Hackett because he’s Rodgers’ boy. Period. I do agree that Tanny was pretty good at least at first when he was with Parcells. I think he got a little too cocky in his trade up’s and it all collapsed, but he was for sure better than the shitshows that were Bradway, Idzik, and Mac. And unfortunate, JD, while better than those guys as well, is not looking great these days. Too many bad trades and botched draft picks…
Again, you need to produce the proof, otherwise it is just a conspiracy theory. At least I have the fact that it's Saleh and JD's responsibility to hire an OC. I have them giving very specific reasons why they got Hack. Do you have an equivalency of evidence where Woody ordered it and people whose job it was to do it, and who said they did exactly that and gave reasons why, actually opposed the hire but were forced?
Douglas is worse than Bradway and as bad as Idzik and Maccagnan. And his record is the worst of them all.
What’s crazy is that Douglas has been here 5 years and these statements are true - the best player on the Jets team, still, was drafted by Mccagnan - the Jets haven’t started 5-0 in 20 years but the Vikings did this season with a QB drafted by Mccagnan - the Jets haven’t had a pro bowl QB since 2008 but the Seahawks have a QB that has made the last 2 seasons in row. And he was drafted by Idzik!
I think I'm going to get a Jets Brock Bowers jersey made. Not on the NFL shop though, I'd rather support a Chinese knock off site than the NFL.
JD had a lot of problems. Its really hard to believe that with all the building assets he had, this is where we are. IMO his main problem was he had a terrible vision of how to build this team. He wasn't following a plan, he was building slapdash on impulses and hype. He talked a good talk when he got here, and promised a great o-line, but it quickly stunk of desperation. He was terrible at identifying talent. Outside of the top 40 picks its been barren - and he's had 30 picks after 40. Nearly every position he struck on our multiple times, even when he did eventually find a decent player. It took whiffs on Mims and Moore before he finally got Garrett in the top 10. Perine and Carter before he finally got Hall, the first RB taken. If Fash doesn't pan out, it means he didn't draft a single quality tackle in 5 drafts. He was also terrible at working the draft on draft night, and probably even more terrible at building through FA. We need a different direction. We need more cuttlefish.
This was one of the worst "rebuilds" in history for a GM and HC that built it from the ground up. Tough to believe you could put 4 years of effort in and end up this bad today and with the near term future also looking like shit.
He's good at collecting washed up former stars thinking he can get one last year out of them. His management style hasn't produced a single winning season. He's had his 6 year run. Time for him to go.
Does this, that, and the other to pacify an aged QB putting all chips on the table Gets a guy who clearly was unhappy with his contract situation and not work something out with him until it basically doesn’t matter. Make moves to demonstrate that you weren’t giving up on the season by firing a bad coach but not hiring someone that at least had a good head coaching resume. Allows a kicker that has been problematic since preseason to technically cost you three games. Joe, you're doing a heck of a job!
How this guy still has a job is astounding. This is one time that I wish I could say that I was wrong, but I said back in January that we were punting on the 2024 season by retaining Douglas and Saleh. Turned out to be more right than I thought I would be. I am so tired of hearing about how this team has talent. Saying that this team has talent is just drinking the kool aid that Douglas and ESPN have been selling. They don't. This is a BAD football team.
