There are four opening day starters from last year that come from the G5. Allen, Carr, Garoppolo, and Roethlisberger. One below in Carson Wentz. They are exceptions to the rule. It's not impossible to develop from a lower tier college, but it's certainly much more difficult. Everyone is hanging their hat on him becoming Allen when Allen is a physical specimen at the position that Wilson is not.
I am not glossing over the injury. I said it a million times, all doctors that have looked at him have said that his shoulder is 100% healed and should be of no concern. The same concerns hold true for Lawrence. Just because he had the injury on a non throwing arm, he still had the same injury. Again, this surgery happened in 2019. He had an entire year with ZERO issues and balled out. His shoulder is healed, clearly. This is not me claiming that, this is his body of work and all the doctors who have cleared him.
I can’t speak to the type of pressure that Wilson encountered as it hard to find visual evidence of such but having seen every one of OSU’s snaps in 2020 I can speak to Fields’. Fields encountered a lot of interior pressure. Again stay away from Wyatt Davis. I know historically that cripples all QBs except for maybe Wilson. Even the GOAT Brady could be made to look like a bottom tier QB when you get interior pressure in his face. This is why we as well as the rest AFC East has invested a lot of draft capital in defensive tackles in the past couple decades.
You rarely see them on the highlights. The ones that do make it are labeled as “perfect back shoulder” throws.
Even what pressure is & isnt can be extremely subjective. A QB can have a deceptive amount of time w what appears to be a clean pocket only to see on tape or QB admitting postgame that the 3T was getting to a spot in the A gap that was screwing up his timing/drops/vision. Conversely pinched o-lines that let wide 9s/outside blitzers have edge only to have their OTs ride them out of the picture. Some may call that a pressure while others say its more of a offensive strategy. There are just a ton of moving parts
I don’t see it but Darnold is not a bad floor as far as floors go. I think it’s probably a bit lower.
Not everyone can be Rodgers/Mahomes/Allen in 1 like Zachary..Bo Jackson maybe? Oh no..he had injury problems..we like to pretend Wilson is made of steel. But leave me off the Fields list please. While i prefer him to Zach..Pitts is my guy.
So you would be upset if Fields was the guy the Jets were heavily liked to? Honest question. I take that answer as you don't want ANY QB at #2, including Fields.
Thank you for reminding me. Easy to forget this is a fan message board and not media, with the myriad of gifs , media videos and tweeters or PFF / name your poison media stats that you keep posting as gospel to either make your case or to ridicule everyone else's case.
wouldnt be upset w Fields. I see the upside, pedigree & intangible he brings. Hes just not a personal Fav. I can wrap my head around those who have conviction. Ive truly tried w Wilson & just not there. But yes i prefer stockpiling picks over multiple years & building this thing for real
So no relentless slamming of Fields if he was the presumptive pick. Fair enough. I can live with either QB since I think both have tremendous upsides. What bothers me about the debate is that one side will admit to the red flags and the other side will not. I haven't seen one pro-Fields person admit to any red flags for the guy. They are just explained away. People say Wilson has been ordained the golden child but if you listen to the Fields supporters, he has no glaring issues. None. He's fucking Superman. No concessions at all.
