Are we discussing the same kicker? The same guy that made 20 in a row in 2006? The same guy that was referred to at one time as "Mr. Automatic" by commentators? Nugent has had his fair share of game winning kicks as well. When does he miss 20 yard FGs? One game against the titans? Preseason?

I want to see a competition, but I'm rooting for Nugent.

That's mind boggling! Is that true? A kicker we picked up from the street and hits 13 straight? Thats amazing!

I say Feely. Not because he made 18 of last 19, but because he would be cheaper than Nugent. Not that we'll save a million or something, but I put both on the same level. and what kind of hamstring pull doesn't get healed up in 4 months??? If thats the case, then it can come back again. I had a hammy two yrs ago and ever since then, it keeps coming back in a minor form from time to time.

Nugents health is a concern IMO. We need to finally give up on him as he hasn't been anywhere near to amount we gave up for him (2nd rounder).

If we decide not to keep Feely, then Giants will release one of theirs and its probably going to be Lawrence Tynes. I'd take him in a heart beat...and he won't have to move any where. He'll join the Jets in a heart beat too.

I hope Feely stays he made some clutch kicks this year at oakland and against the pats, he had a good year where as nugent hasnt done anything. If the jets dont want either maybe they can draft one with their 1st round pick.

Training camp competition would seem to be the obvious answer. Feely really warmed up as the season went on, but Nuge is talented.

Should make a nice undercard to the QB competition...

Gholston should be our punter. Maybe then he would contribute and we might actually hear his name called for once.

You should add neither as a option

Definitely Feely. He can boot the ball and has been clutch for us this season. Why change what works?

Id go with Nuge depending on the cost.

Feeley did an adequate job as had Nuge since he had been here , I wouldn't consider either one as failed miserably as a Jet or been a world beater. The upside of Nuge is far greater than Feeley who can't even get a KO to the other teams 10.

I personally think he was ready to go alot earlier than people think and was fucked by the mind games of Mangina, whom he made look bad by getting injured in week 1 and showing how unprepared he was to not even have a backup plan to kick an EP.

Nugent is a free agent this year, is he not? Mediocre kickers that represent failed personnel moves shouldn't be brought back again to rub my nose in it. I don't have a single problem bringing back Feeley, but I also like the idea of looking into other options.

Jets leaning towards Feely, per E-Boland

From E-Boland's Newsday chat this morning:
    11:32 [Comment From Carl]
Do you think the jets will give the kicking job back to Nugent, or is Feely going to stick around? Also, other than Westhoff, which coaches are most likely to stay?
    11:33 (Eric Boland)
hey carl. nugent's contract expired and the word is they will work on extending feely. i would be shocked if nugent is back

Thanks for the info. I was actually not aware that Nugent would be a free agent this offseason.

+1 for The NUGE. I don't understand the Nugent hate here. Statistically he's no worse than Feely; it's not his fault we drafted his ass in the second round. Can't say I have strong feelings either way though.
