I think the biggest problem with Rex talking was he created huge expectations by all the fans. In some peoples minds the Jets would breeze through the regular season undefeated, roll to a superbowl win, party at the whitehouse, Rex would then go on to cure cancer, house all the homelless in the country, and if he had some extra free time fix the recession. The bottom line is Rex is a second year HC. Is he perfect? No. Has he won a lot of games in two years? Yes. Will he get better? Absolutely. I happen to be a High School Head coach and I spend a lot of time watching Rex on the sideline and in the press conferences. The guy is emotional, he loves the game, and he loves the Jets. Sometimes his emotions will lead him in the wrong direction (fake punts and such). In the past few weeks I think Rex has learned that he has to be more accountable and hands on. If you do not think he has stepped in to implement changes on the offense then you are completely mistaken. The offense has underwent a dramatic facelift in the past two weeks. We have scrapped the timing patterns and out routes to the sideline. We all know that those were staples in the schotty system. My point is that Rex is the right man for this job. Cut the guy some slack. He is not even done with his seond year. Lets give him a reasonable amount of time before we call for his head or lock up his place in Canton.
Look we are actually better than we were last year, so there are some gains in that department. We are in the playoffs instead of nail biting the final three games like it goes around the Jet nation every year. As for being Arrogant and brash; well I like that more and more. Who gives a rats a$$ what everyone else thinks. Every single year we have some good games and bad games and no matter how good we look we get no respect regardless of the way we win. What would be different from this year to any year before this one? We still get no respect and we still are doubted on every snap that we take. As for where you stand with our jets, why don’t you take a side already? I highly doubt it, but strongly hope for it!? Take a side! You either in or you’re not. I believe or I don’t believe. :jets:
I get the feeling from the Jets and many fans that we should just be happy to get into the playoffs. People act like getting into the playoffs is like we already won our Superbowl. Is that all we need? A stamp of approval showing that we don't completely suck, cause we made the playoffs?! I'm sorry, but that's not enough for me. I want this team to go to the Superbowl and WIN.
making the playoffs is great, hopefully we can win our 1st rd game and get back to the afccg. i enjoy the team and rooting for them to win, but demanding a sb title or else is a bit ludicrous.
Rexy Listening to Francesa today for a few minutes it struck me that these media guys really think that coaches have to answer to them. He kept mentioning "Rex's vaunted defense". He also congratulated himself for not talking about Mrs. Rex. None of this matters and it is great that Rex doesn't give a damn what the yahoos think. His job is engage the players and get the best out of them. He also has to manage his coaches and do media relations. I think though that he is too involved with the defense. An NFL head coach should be involved with all three phases of the game. Let his coaches know what he wants generally and coach the coaches. During the game, get the players attention and be in the middle of every unit on the sidelines and in the coaches ears when their 11 are on the field. He is the HC not the d coordinator. Let Pet. call the sets, supervise the whole game.
i don't demand a Superbowl title, although we can agree that is the goal? it just would be nice to see a little less blatant stupidity and lack of discipline. It would be nice to be able to have confidence in our team, and know what you are going to get each week. As it is, you never know what this Jets team will do. Sometimes they play great, sometimes like pure shit. No consistency whatsoever in any phase. AT THE HEART OF MY DISPLEASURE, I guess you could say I used to have faith in our head coach Rex Ryan. I lost all faith on Sunday when he went for it on 4th and 3 from his own 40, with a 7 point lead. More and more it seems like he is a fool playing Madden.
I'll admit I bought into the hype early in the season and honestly thought we were the best team in the NFL. My expectations have come back down to earth now, and I realize that the confidence that Rex displays is simply part of a strategy meant to inspire his players and keep them positive and NOT delusions of grandeur. Rex knows we have flaws. He looks as shocked as anyone sometimes when we make a big play, you see it in his celebration. Rex might expect greatness, but I'm sure he doesn't assume it.
Rebuttal: last year we were 9-7 and got very lucky against Indianapolis. Sure, we got in, but the AFC Championship game appearance masks the issues of the regular season. And this year, we have more than enough talent to make the playoffs. So a playoff berth is the minimum. I like Rex, but we look stupid when we talk a lot and then do as many dumb things as we do.
It seems our team is not consistent enough to win games, but i hope im wrong and we get fired up in the playoffs and win games!
Maybe they're a great January team. All the issues go away once January starts, and they play like they did in weeks 2-4. Being a blind optimist here
