Who knows? Rodgers for Green Bay, Sanchez for the Jets, Tebow/Bradford/Robinson for the Vikes in 2010? Maybe Favre is just sewing the seeds for these teams to draft Franchise QBs for when he leaves.
I am bitter over this whole situation. We got absolutely nothing out of Favre signing with Minnesota. Also, he retired and asked to be released because he didn't want to play for us? The Jets are a much better team than Minnesota, right now. He could have groomed Sanchez to take over the reigns in the future.
It doesn't matter. It's only a matter of weeks before you see Favre slobbering all over the microphone in Minnesota, talking about his love of the game and how he wanted to come back again on more time, but now his rotator cuff is bothering him and (sniff), he can't really (choke... snort) throw the ball (outright tears pouring down now... wiping them away with the back of his hand) throw the ball the way he used to and... (red faced, shaking his head, slobbering all over the mike) now he's letting his (WHAAAAAA.....!) teamates down and.... (BAAAAaaaa.......Haaaaaa....)
Saw his interview last night, he said no one loves the game more than him. I would too at 12 million a clip and miss most of training camp.
Not bad pocket change for sitting on your ass in a fishing boat while your "teamates" sweat their balls off in TC. The whole thing is a joke. Wait until his rotator cuff flares up again and he starts spraying INTs all over the field. I can't believe Minnesota would lay out that kind of money after seeing film of his last 5 Jets games... 9 INTs in those 5 games. A fucking season killer if there ever was one.
He has already told them he has a partial tear. I thought that was fixed but apparently not. It will be interesting to watch. From afar. I don't hate the guy, I just never wanted him here. But I guess I am in the minority on that one.
My favorite part: "This is not about revenge, believe me." On playing for the Jets last season (paraphrased): Yea, part of doing this was sticking it to Ted Thompson. So, playing in a different conference was revenge but going to the hated rival of the team that gave you everything isn't? Oh yea, and using the foxhole analogy for football? Complete bullshit. I guess he'd have to play TE to be a soldier.
I want to see Green Bay sweep the Vikes and come up with about 6 INTs in both games. Talk about who gets the last laugh then. Those are going to be some interesting games to watch.
In all honestly, I am fairly disappointed with Favre's drama. He retired last season, and demanded to be released. Why? He knew at that time that he wanted to come back, but he insisted that he was retired and didn't want to unretire. We released him on his word. If we hadn't released him, we could have got something from trading him. Now, we got nothing. If this was really about Favre wanting to come back and win, he would have stayed with the Jets. Before he injured his shoulder, we were doing great. This isn't about him wanting to win though, this is about him wanting to beat Green Bay twice, just to stick it to a few people in upper management there. He has absolutely no interest in being a part of the Minnesota team, just as he had no interest in being part of the Jets. We got played, so Favre could get what he wanted - revenge.
To me it was worth giving Green Bay back the 7th round pick to be done with Favre and all the baggage that goes with him. Small price to pay, most 7th round picks never even make the team, who cares? We moved on, traded up to get Sanchez and he's not retiring for a while.
Yeah, that one raised an eyebrow for me too. I should have a harder time than anyone else here admitting that Minnesota has a good roster. But I can't pretend it isn't true. Jets could turn out to be really good, make no mistake. But talking in terms of what is proven, and saying Jets are a better team than Minny? No way.
shit, we are lucky the packers didnt ask the nfl to look into this. Tanny made the classy and correct move to give greenbay the draft pick, just so we and the packers are still on good terms. Fuck farve
There was no baggage involved with the 7th round pick. The trade said if Favre retired the Jets received the 7th from the Packers. He retired, so the Jets should have received the pick. Unless there was wording in there concerning Favre un-retiring and that pick being nullified, which there has never been any indication of, the Packers worked Tanny over on this one. Our #2 receiver this year may be a 7th round pick! Classy and correct? What obligation were the Jets under to return that pick? The terms of the trade were in black and white. It was retarded.
Maybe, maybe not. Of course some 7th rounders make teams, but it's not a big enough deal to still be tied into Favre and all of his nonsense. The baggage I'm referring to is still being connected in any way to the Favre circus, not the pick itself. Tannenbaum makes his living doing this, he obviously felt it was worth giving the pick back to wash his hands of Favre, move forward and be able to get Sanchez. It worked out beautifully, we traded up and got the QB we wanted, who so far looks good, and Favre is somebody else's problem. We're going to cry over a 7th round pick? Forget it.
That pick would in no way, shape or form tie us to Favre. You're right 7th round picks usually aren't worth much, but why give one away? We might was well give away our 7th rounder every year if that's the attitude. We can make friends with everyone!
