Yeah, he was pretty bad leading a pathetic Jets roster to a 10-6 record and playoff birth in 2006. Then after getting cut by the Jets, led the (1-15) Dolphins to an (11-5) record in 2008. He sucked post-surgery for sure!
My biggest memories of him was how he'd always sit and go for the pick and as a result he'd get burnt, a lot. He was actually a candidate to be one of my 3, and almost used him rather than Robinson, but I so fell in love with Robinson's arm that one year, despite all the flaws he had a beautiful deep ball, he just couldn't hit the broad side of a 747 hangar. Erik is a guy who because stats are so limited for DB's from that era it's easy to get misled on him, you look at all the interceptions and such and think WOW, GREAT PLAYER....but if they had a stat for how many times he got beaten because he went for the pick and missed.......man...
You see this is why I don't like W/L record being a gauge for how good a QB was. Richard Todd (one of the worst QB's the Jets have had) "led" the 1981 Jets to a 10-5 record as a starting QB, he just happend to have a career year that year where he threw the fewest picks of his career, and the most TD's and the next year "took" the Jets to the the AFC Championship game, only to throw 5 picks in the game). over his career he was horrible, yet he did have two seasons in which HE won...and this is one of my favorite Jets I'm talking about, he was bad, and not in the good sense of the world baaad, but just bad.
I mean Sanchez was Namath compared to Todd, Todd was just bad bad bad...but god I loved him as a Jet.....oh to be young and foolishly enthralled with a player...okay young and drunk.....
sanchez sucked. give me one statistical season that proves me otherwise. Other than that i think what you meant was Sanchez's team didn't suck. IF you ask me Sanchez held us back from even better records in his 1st two seasons.. his young QB mistakes made most games interesting.. he balled out in the playoffs though.
Yeah my younger days I loved all the Jets. Including the (1-15) team in 1996. I like Foley, Chrebet, Keyshawn, Hugh Douglas, I had a Neil O'Donnell jersey, so yeah, the younger you are, the more you are able to like terrible players or terrible teams even.
I was actually talking about the season he started 1-7 and then got benched. Like I said, I loved Pennington but to say he was never bad is selective memory.
The team WANTED Chad out in 2007. Clemens was being pushed like crazy. The team sucked ass. Not all on Chad for the terrible start. He played pretty well.
Rick Lyle. I remember back in 97/98 thinking this guy was going to really be something. Instead, Meh. Now I don't know why I even remember him.
Todd Burger Was a big FA acquisition in 98 to help solidify the OL. He had a shakey debut season & was released soon after..He was a brawler though & started every game during that special season.
