I'm not sure how many times I can explain this to you but I will keep trying until it sinks in.

The man made his career based on playing through pain, he wants all the glory of being called the ironman. he doesn't get a pas when he plays hurt and plays poorly. he played like he had most of that season, like a guy who didn't want to be here and was winging it every week. Sorry you couldn't see that, he sabotaged a legit chance at a SB and what at the very least should have been only our 3rd AFC East title.

The thing I don't like about this argument is that he was the main reason why that team had a chance at the division title and SB in the first place. He played great before the injury. They weren't getting to 8-3 like they did without him... so it's hard to see it as a "sabotage" like you do unless you are biased against the man.

It's not like they had a SB caliber team and he went in and destroyed it. They had an average team that he got to overachieve before his injury...

Easily one of my top 10 live most enjoyable performances by a Jet QB. Awful video quality.

That is 100% not true, he was mediocre/bad most of the season. we were 8-3 mainly b/c we faced a weak sched, our D wasn't great but it turned over opponents and we had a good OL. Favre was most responsible for all 3 losses heading into that final stretch and he nearly cost us a bunch of other games like Cincy and KC and this was long before his injury.

If we kept Chad we easily win the division that year. he took a team w/ half the talent from 1 win to 11 wins and won our division.

I always liked Favre, I have nothing against him other than he didn't want to be here and sabotaged a great chance to at least win a division BUT I am also grateful he choked b/c it did lead to rex, Sanchez and 2 title game apps.

great game, unfortunately he rarely played anywhere close to that the rest of the way but that video states vs. "SB Cards". Arizona was a 9-7 team and they got thrashed the 3 times they came to the Northeast so we didn't do that against some juggernaut.

good god Junc. I can understand being dumb when it comes to the QB position and not wanting to admit it. Time and time you are wrong about QBs, nobody wants to admit when they are wrong... But don't try this bullshit where you say you like Favre and aren't being biased against him after years of spewing hate on the guy and criticizing the move in the first place. Anyway

How biased can you possibly be??? Favre came aboard a 4-12 team. He replaced Pennington who was 1-7 as a starter the year before. That team wasn't winning the division or 10 games. He was on his way to one of the best single seasons a QB has ever had for this organization. He was 8-3 by mid-november had 20 TDs and was completing passes at almost a 70% clip and just beat a 10-0 team. Were talking a "Testaverde 1998 year" prior to his injury. The QB play was the only reason they were 8-3...

He probably should've sat out if he couldn't play after getting injured, yes, but he didn't "sabotage" anything. Don't be an asshole.

    Entertaining season.

It was a wild ride, that unforunatley but all to commonly ended up in disappointment.

I get that folks hate him, I don't. If you hate him, have at it.

And lets not forget his goddawful motivational speech before the last game of the season with the playoffs on the line: "Let's go out and play our game, whatever that is . . . ."

    Awful, just awful.

    What a tool.

Everyone knows it--if Favre doesn't get injured we likely win the SB.

Don't let your jimmies get rustled.

nah they aren't winning the SB that year with a healthy Favre. And getting your jimmies rustled on this board is what the offseason is all about.

I know more than you, that's a fact. I understand the game and the position better than 99% of the people on this board.

to say we were w 4-12 team is showing how little you know. we had a million injuries, our OL was awful, Kellen Clemens started half the games. We spent big that offseason and fixed the OL issues, we were going to be better w/ the better OL and a healthy Chad or healthy any decent QB like we were in 2004 after we lost 2003 to injuries and we went shopping.

You look at stats, I watch games.

we were 8-3 and he had 20 TDs but you fail to mention a)that 6 of them came in one game and b) he also had 13 INTs and 2 more fumbles lost.

His 2nd highest TD game was at SD where he threw 3 Tds in a blowout loss where he was awful. In 5 of the other 9 games he threw 1 or fewer TD passes.

    Game 1:
1 of his 2 TDs was a 4th down play where we went for it rather than kick FG b/c our K got hurt where Favre threw a hail mary and Stuckey came down w/ it.

Game 2: matt Cassell makes first career start and outplays the future HOFer as Favre leads us to just 10 points in a 19-10 loss at home. This was the week he was busy helping Detroit prepare for GB by the way.

before you criticize and attack have a clue what you are talking about so you won't look as foolish next time.

    Game 3:
D scores TD to give us early 7-0 lead, Favre throws one back to give SD TD, leon returned KO to SD 3 or 4 for another TD "drive" and Favre pads stats in blowout loss but that impresses you.

    Game 4:
was great vs. Arizona BUT this was same Arizona team that came to the NE 3 times and lost by an AVERAGE of 21 points and gave up an average of over 50 PPG.

    game 5:
against the great Ryan Fitzpatrick and Cincy. Favre fumbled and that was returned for TD. TWICE in FG range up 20-14 throws INT and we escaped against an awful Cincy team at home.

    Game 6:
at awful Oakland was outplayed by JAMARCUS RUSSELL. Led us to 13 pts in 5 qtrs. of football against a terrible Raider team. Threw INT in EZ prevented at least 3 pts in an OT game. Trailing 13-10 late in 4th threw another INT but did lead great game tying drive after D held Oak. In OT he had 3 possessions to get us in FG range, never even got us to midfield.

    Game 7:
against an awful KC team(2-14) he was outplayed by Tyler Thigpen. Threw INT to set up 1st KC TD, up 21-17 threw INT for TD when we were at KC 8 yd line. we squeaked out W against lowly Chiefs.

    Game 8:
This was the first game he started to play well outside of the fluke Ari game and even playing well we were up big and he threw an INT for a TD that gave Buf life and got them back in the game.

    Game 9:
we thrashed SL. we did whatever we wanted against them.

    Game 10:
at NE. Tremendous 1st half but he was awful in the 2nd half helping NE come back from down 24-6 to send it to OT. led great GW drive in OT

    Game 11:
    at Ten: played very well.

he had a nice 3-4 game stretch(buf to Ten). That was it, other than that and the Ari game he was pretty terrible. w/ Chad we skate to a div title.

Next time before hurling insults at least have a clue what you are talking about so you don't continue to embarrass yourself.

I don't hate him, I try not to hate people I don't know. I hate how he approached that season, I hate how he killed that season but there were definitely some entertaining moments to the season.

Of course. This is obvious to anyone who doesn't have an anti-Favre agenda.

What? We don't beat the Cards in the SB??? Are you fucking kidding me??? We just pasted 56 points on them and then put this cherry on it:

But yeah....Favre tanked on purpose, looked like shit, sabotaged the Jets, and gave up a SB ring so he'd look more appealing to the Vikings. Got it.

At 8-3 we were playing at a very high level, Favre included, and the talk around New York was that we were looking at a possible Jet-Giant Super Bowl. Every Jet fan I knew was positively giddy about the prospects and how we were playing, mainly due to Favre.

He got injured- not hurt, not banged up, not tweaked--injured--and he should have been sat but Mangini didn't have the balls to do that to a future first ballot HOF. And Favre was too selfish to take himself out.

That was the beginning of the end. Favre haters obviously have a different view, which is ok. Won't take away from my enjoyment and ultimate anguish from that season. Rationalize it anyway you want , but we were going to the SB if Favre doesn't get injured. Regardless of his 'mindset'.

My reason for not liking Favre was because he was selfish. He clearly wasn't healthy enough to play yet he stayed out there with a bum shoulder just to preserve his iron man streak. That basically ruined the 2008 season.

I'd like to point out that there is no evidence (zero, zilch, nada) that Favre selfishly refused to sit out. The only thing we know about that injury is that ...

    1. He had a torn bicep tendon,
    2. Tannenbaum and Mangini told Favre to hide the tendon injury (don't mention it to anyone) - we know this because Tannenbaum admitted it on Fatcessa's show months afterwards,
    3. The league investigated the Jets FO for hiding the injury and not putting it on injury reports (and eventually fined Tannenbaum and Mangini),
    4. Favre had surgery to fix the tendon after the season was over (the tendon was severed all the way through because it was unrepairable),
    5. During the tendon surgery, the doctors determined he also had a torn rotator cuff in the throwing shoulder,
    6. The next season, Favre told Minnesota media that he would have been okay with sitting out some games because he thought he was hurting the team,
    7. An anonymous Jet was (after hearing Favre's comments) quoted as saying he didn't believe there were any circumstances where Favre would have been willing to sit.

    NYT LINK

    TANNENBAUM'S COMMENT TO NYT:

    ESPN LINK

The team (Tannenbaum, Mangini, Schotty) decided there was no F-ing way they were benching Favre for Clemens, injured throwing arm or not, so they had him play even though Favre himself thought he was "harming" the team.
