Winston and I have also commented many times on our experiences watching the 60s-era Jets (he and I were also both vendors at Shea for the Jets in the early 70s, although not at the same time). Sorry to state the obvious, but of course the 1968 SBIII team is my favorite. The 1967 team that Winston mentioned is a worthwhile choice too. It was the year you could see everything coming together (the Jets were 8-5-1), and Joe Willie passed for over 4000 yards, far more than anyone ever had before.
The 98 team had a presence like no other. With that roster and those coaches you knew the team was in the right hands. We haven't had anything close to that since...
Alot of memorable players from those years, some of my favorites were Jim Hudson, Bake Turner, Billy Joe, Mark Smolinski, Ralph Baker...
We should all say the 1968 team whether we saw them or not. They are the only Championship team in the history of our Jets. Of the teams I saw 1981, 82, 85 and 86 were all great teams. I still feel if Walt Michaels had been the coach in 1983 we would have won the Super Bowl that year. But in the end, of all the teams I enjoyed most was the 1998 team. That was such an amazing season only 2 years after going 1-15.
I think you best get out your history books & refer to them there on the other side of the pond. Why should I worry about a team that played in 20s when the NYJs did not play there 1st game until 1960 when they were not even known as the NYJs but the NYTs?
It's all football knowledge Champ. Thanks for the dig about coming from over the pond as well. That was nice!
The thread is your favorite team, not the best team. Only Captain Obvious Champ is taking it in that direction. The 1995 3-13 team can be your favorite if you want it to be. Maybe that was your first season or first game or you're one of those guys who likes women to put cigarettes out on you. Your favorite season was one that you saw, which makes the thread more interesting, otherwise we'd all just say 1968 whether we were born or not.
