It would have been hard for TJ to lead from the bench..

The Jets had the lowest number of pass attempts in the league yet Faneca gave up more sacks than any other guard in the NFL.

    Do the math.

The Steelers and Patriots would have fired this guy the day after the Superbowl.

What are things you should have thought immediately after typing this?

Do you guys think for one minute, Rex and Tannenbaum are going to allow someone worse than Faneca to take over at LG?

Especially with Mark coming off knee surgery?????

They are confident Vlad or Slaussen will be able to transition without a problem.

So while cutting Faneca seems like a monetary move it is calculated as well.

No surprise that Rich Cimini conducted this interview. He hates it when the Jets do something that he "believes" is a bad move. He was the one that asked in the post-draft presser if Tanny thought it was a bad idea to fix something that "isn't broken". I'm glad Cimini isn't the beat writer anymore. Always felt he was too interested in his own opinion rather than reporting useful information.

i dont really see the bashing of cimini for this article. i guess when you hate a guy you have to hate everything he does.

cato i think you hate faneca as much as i used to hate herm. every thread you have at least 5 posts in about how bad he sucked.

Anyone questioning why Faneca was cut didn't spend enough time watching Faneca "play" last season.

    5 linemen, 1 weak link.

Care to guess who the weak link was?

We draft a run blocker in Ducasse, a FB, and 2 RBs. Yep sounds like a passing team.

Faneca was a turnstile last year.

Ducasse has a great upside and was a steal in late Rd 2.....I had Ducasse as a borderline rd 1 pick. I like Ducasse's attitude and think he has tons of potential.

Ducasse needs work on pass protection.....let's have faith in Bill Callahan.

    I like Tanny/Rex moves:

Faneca was on the downside of his career.

Leon is a huge question mark...may never be the same.

    Kerry Rhodes.....had to go.

TJ is on the downside of his career. Look at the film, TJ is Sloooow hitting the hole. Our O-Line prolonged Jone's career.

This will be Ellis last season, unrestricted FA in 2011.

I agree that this is a running team (defensive coach, duh). However, you'd think that cutting Faneca has to have something to do with his awful pass protection. I've heard great things about Ducasse's athleticism which is usually the physical trait directly linked with pass protection (ex. D'Brickashaw Ferguson).

As I said in another thread, our approach to the draft this year was interesting. Sure, we went BPA, but it was more than that. Most teams use the draft to address their weaknesses and fill holes. We actually built upon our strongest parts. We had the top running game and passing defense last season, so what did we do? We drafted for our running game and passing defense.

It's an approach the Colts have frequently taken in the first round (consistently drafting offensive players to add to a phenomenal offense), but we applied it to our whole draft. The more I think about it, the more I like it, especially since we drafted such great players.

You'd be a little upset too if one of the most realistic teams to win this season's Super Bowl cut you too. Dude's getting 5 million guaranteed. He served his time here, did alright, but I don't feel bad for him. He has a ring already. I wish him luck on where he ends up, unless it's in the AFC East.
Like many people have pointed out here already, he's more of a liability at this point in his career. This is nothing like the Pete Kendall situation. That played out all off-season, into training camp, right up until 2 weeks before the season began. If they didn't want him, the team did themselves and Faneca a gigantic favor. He shouldn't be pissed about anything. And it was done quick, too.

    Seriously...THIS.
How can anyone be upset with what we've done this off season? We've upgraded in a lot of spots. Significantly, too, imo.

I don't think Ducasse will be able to start straight away... but he has a lot of upside so when he'll start I think he'll be a very good player for us!

We all assume $ makes it all better but i'm sure the way we're building this team he knows he had a good shot of getting to another SuperBowl.
Would be a great way to end a career.

better too early than too late. and if we kept him and had to be put in a position to put him on the bench we have a locker room problem on our hands.
