    That's exactly where it leads.

These things are usually true. The Jets are being proactive. All 3 guys need to be turned over soon anyway. You'd have to jump at draft picks for Faneca and Ellis, and Thomas sucks. He just looks better b/c of VG.

This. I still remember Dec. 14, '08... the best birthday gift I ever got... Ellis picking up a fumble and running it into the endzone against the Bills. FTW. :)

We practically have to rely on Shaun Ellis for this year because we already have a need on the opposite side.

Trading starters for 4th and 5th round picks is a good way to end up with garbage on the field. Most 4th and 5th round picks are mediocre players who are gone in a few seasons, which is why they are still on the board in the fourth and fifth rounds. Just because the Jets got lucky in the 4th round recently doesn't negate this.

I will be absolutely stunned if Ellis goes. I will be quite shocked if Faneca goes and I will be mildly shocked if Thomas goes.

This team is close and needs to build on what was achieved last season. It isn't time to tear it down yet.

What things are usually true? Teams rumored to be trying to trade 3 veteran starters out of the blue 2 days before the draft? Is this your first draft or something? If there had been even a peep about any of these players at all within the past, say, 2 months or so getting trade rumors, then I might agree with you.

But what I'm guessing is that Tanny and his scouting crew have a few select players in the draft that they are interested in and in order to throw out some smoke, Tanny started making bogus calls around the league to cloud the picture.

I honestly cannot see Faneca being that easy to trade. $7.5 million on the year for an aging guard who is suspect in pass protection? Doesn't sound like teams should be clamoring.

It's the exact opposite of a trade you'd expect. We're supposed to be the ones loading up for a SB run, yet the only way this trade makes sense is if we're trying to get Iupati. Why trade a vet for a rookie in this role?

This sounds like just another smokescreen to make GMs think we will be targeting these positions. Oddly though, this is what we've been pegging the Jets to be targeting, so I don't know what to think. Maybe it's a smokescreen to make others teams think it's a smokescreen...

Our the Jets getting cheap on us? Did Woody get the bill for the new stadium and the list of empty seats in his new palace and MR. T give him the rundown on what it will cost to keep Revis, Mangold, Harris and D'Brick. I could see this happenning but they better have someome to take their places. Add the fact that there will be a work stoppage next year, which means no income, and you have a very nervous owner. I know the networks are paying the NFL next year regardless, but that will made up, its not free. Damm, I don't know what to think

No way Faneca goes anywhere unless they get a 2nd rounder for him or something. Contnuity is everything on an Oline and they have played a ton of games together..they won't break that up unless they got something big planned. Ellis leaving woudl be the dumbest thing ever since we need him so bad..Thomas I could see but what would we get for hhim at 4th at best...it could all be smoke screens unless they do get a highdraft pick for either one of them... I hope to God Ellis goes no where

ellis- cutting him now after and entire career with us and a sb in the wings would suck for him, and for us. ellis played hard through some really shitty years.

faneca- cut his fat as and fat contract. he can not pass block and his run blocking won't be 'as needed' with sanchez ready to play QB and holmes/coth/braylon/keller/LT ready to receive.

    BT- adios

Can't see this happening. If Tanny needed to shed some salary, wouldn't he start with Gholston?

I mean, sure, Faneca wasn't a pro bowl tackle this year and had some lapses in pass protection, but to just release him? There's no way.

Replace 'Russia' with 'Tanny' and I think it sums it up nicely:

    - Winston Churchill

    I'm thinking along two angles:

    1) This is a smokescreen as others have said.

    2) Tanny is shopping these guys with a specific purpose in mind. Of course, I'd love to hear that it's these 3 players and our 1st rounder to St. Louis so we can pick Suh. I love Ellis, but to have Suh? Sorry old friend.

EDIT: FTR, I don't think that would get it done. I'm just saying that it's what I'd like to hear.

Smokescreen for what, though? What does the FO gain from shopping around 3 starters? It makes us look like we're trying to draft a guard, a DE, or an OLB. Isn't that exactly what the Jets are looking at?

Good question. Honestly, the only reason I'd go with that is because it just doesn't make sense to get rid of these guys. The only smokescreen I can see is if they're looking at CB or S, but I don't think they will given Cro.

Why this team is messing with the chemistry in this lockerroom is beyond me.
These moves they are making are awesome on paper but we all know it takes more then big name players and superstars at every position to build a winning team. If it only took that the Redskins would have won a few Superbowls in a the past 6 years.
As much as i can't argue with most of these moves i'm starting to get a little worried that our boy Mikey T is getting as little too crazy.

Because it's the NFL and EVERY team does this. The Patriots got rid of Lawyer Milloy right after a Super Bowl and went to two more. The Steelers ditched linebackers every year and still won two Super Bowls in four years.

So far, these "moves" are just rumors and nothing more. Faneca's old, Ellis is old, and Thomas is an incomplete player at Linebacker.

Of course that argument only makes sense if you are only talking about three rumored trades. If you're talking about bringing in high end talent like Cromartie, Tomlinson, Pool and Holmes to add to the roster or replace old veterans who couldn't cut it, than I have nothing. I really cannot argue with crazy.

Someone asked Lombardi about it and this was his response:

Now it makes less sense than ever.
