In all this great aggressiveness I hope the Jets don't drop the ball with Coles. Coles is NOT Kendall, he deserves the money, and if we lose him, then a lot of these moves won't mean much because we'd be losing our top offensive weapon.

Well, first of all this is the Jets we are talking about. They don't exactly have a sparkling history with anything.

This would be a big contract for a declining player. Faneca likes to run his mouth and complain to the media. To me, this looks like a guy who is cashing in on one last big contract. He might play well for a year or two, though.

I'm not really enamored with this potential move.

At least the Cardinals seems to be out of it:

If Faneca signs with the Jets then he really can't bitch about money. As long as thats not the problem, I hope he does run his mouth a bit. I'm sick of choir boys keeping there mouths shut about everything all the time. Hopefully he brings some attitude to the Jets OL.

He complained about Grimm not getting a better chance to be the head coach. He complained about Ben Roethlisberger back in 2004. This type of player and a garbage franchise doesn't usually mix.

Yea you could be onto something there, but I still like the fact that the Jets are taking a shot on the guy. Faneca is still light years better then anything we have now.

It also sends a positive message that they learned from there mistakes last season and they're really trying to become competitive. It's more then just adding an OL at a need position, its proof that they've shifted there offseason philosophy.

The Roethlisberger complaint is an exaggeration.

Mangini will tell him that he can't run his mouth to the media, that is one thing that is not tolerated here, see Kendall.

But, if things start to go bad...

Look, he's been a top player for a while now. He very well be named to the 2000s All-Decade Team. He has been declining for the past couple seasons, however. I don't think it's a slam dunk that he will live up to the contract.
I do like the Vilma and Jenkins moves, however.

Mangini can tell him whatever he wants, but it doesn't mean Faneca will abide by it all the time. Sometimes players need to be vocal when something is wrong.

He is still one of the top 5 guards in the NFL.

If things start to go bad then he'll see his foot out the door. Mangini and Tannenbaum would not sign a player if they think he is going to be a problem in the locker room or talking his head off to the media.

Yeah, but, the Jets are also hot garbage.

The Cardinals do have a better offense than the Jets and Faneca would reconnect with Russ Grimm.

I guess players have to sign day one and only listen to one team's offer, or they're useless.

    Great point!

I always wonder why these guys sign so quick? If I'm 31 with a family making a commitment to where I'm going to not only play but live, raise my family, etc., etc. I would visit everyone and really have a full understanding of the team the facilities and the surounding area before I did anything. This will probably be the last stop for Faneca and I'm sure he wants to do the right thing for himself and his family. At this level of money, money should be the least important aspect in this decision.
