As soon as people accept the fact that this is Woodys Hobby and not his business we can get a true picture of what were dealing with. No way Jerry Jones, Al Davis or the people that own the Giants or Steelers will go on vacation after this mess. Woody got the standard billionaire Sports Franchise. The Jets are like a prop for him. Just goes with the private plane and sounds good on his resume.
The Washington Redskins laid off 20 staff members (out of about 150) a couple of days ago. There are things going on behind the scenes at all the franchises at this point that we really don't understand as they prepare for what is likely to be the largest downturn in NFL revenues since the merger. I'm adopting a wait and see attitude on the Jet's changes at this point. We have no idea what their financial situation is at this point other than that they spent a hell of a lot of cash last year at probably the worst moment to do it: right before the downturn and liquidity crisis. Does anybody know how much debt Woody is carrying right now from his purchase of the Jets? All of the above plays heavily into what eventually happens in the coaching search. Woody may literally not have the wherewithal to blow a Cowher away with a deep pockets offer.
i dont consider myself to be apathetic in regards to the jets. i get plenty pissed off at this team. the thing is nothing has happened since the jets fired mangini. if we hire schotty then ill start to come around to the view of others that woody is destroying the team. if we hire rex ryan or spags that kinda hurts the argument that woody just wants an ass kisser as coach. i just like to wait to see what actually happens before making a sweeping judgment.
Between managing to let the team completely leave NY, the rising ticket prices, parking passes and PSLs, Woody doesn't deserve our respect.
Oh stop. Woody is not that bad of an owner. I am taking a wait and see approach to this whole situation. Clearly Cohwer was never coming here. Shanahan is completely overrated. Our front office thus far has done the right thing. They are taking their time adn seaching all avenues. People cry that Mangini was hired before out new HC. So what!!!!!! Probably due to the fact that the person we want is still working. Fat ass was canned and probably sold his load of crap to the Browns. We'll se where they are in a few years. Woody showed last year he wants to invest in the team by letting Mike T to go out and spend some money and get some quality players. 6 Pro Bowlers is not an accident ( I will never count Favre). Sane Jet fans, I think will agree, we are not in that terrible of a position. Wait and see.

People can only react to information they're given. Should everyone just ignore what's being said? If they offered BC 10M a year, with total say over player personell and let him bring in his choice of GM, IT IS OF MY OPINION, that he would have taken it. It's my opinion so keep your creepy little hands off it.
I love what Jerry Jones has done with the Cowboys...keep it going JJ, as a cowboy hater I hope it continues, the positive press he is receiving for having pacman jones is great, let's not forget the team first attitude of T.O.......I'll take our problem of not having a HC before having the headaches that the Cowboys have. same for AL davis I don't want him as the owner either... Giants and Pittsburgh I give you credit for.
Woody deserves a big FU. He does not give one crap about how the fans feel. He clearly is in desperation mode after his Favre for psl plan blew up in his face. When you can't give a good reason for firing your HC and then you keep every single member of that staff you have no clue what you are doing. Then add on the fact that want favre to come back they need to call their proctalogist to get themselves some fresh air. Tanny always said he likes to build through the draft which he did until last offseason and in fairness he did a good job drafting players. Then all of a sudden psl's come into the mix 140 million is dropped on FA and some how here we are. So yeah Fu*k you woody. You and your GM abandoned everything you were doing for a shot in the dark and that worries me as a jets fan.
You are 100% wrong in this case. So you are saying we should have kept an incompetent head coach, a coach who could not make half time adjustments. A coach that scraped the team defense after the Broncos game for no real reason. A coach who is so beyond clueless, and its clear week after week. We should have kept him because we did not have a backup plan? What the heck? Maybe we do have a back up plan. Maybe its Rex Ryan, or maybe its not, but I?m damn sure happy that Mangini is gone, he?s garbage and the only thing I?m thankfully for is his draft classes. And maybe Tanny is more to thank then Mangini when it comes to the draft. But with all that said, I?m glad Woody acted quick, firing Mangini, to me says we are no longer accepting mediocrity. After an 8-3 start, and a 1-4 finish (should have been 0-5) the coach deserves to be fired, no matter what the backup plan is.
I totally agree!!! The argument was not for getting Cowher or coach 'X'. The argument is for the way he is conducting the charade and handling the team. Same about Penny. Many of us weren't mad that he left (some of us were heated) but it was the way fans treated him after giving his H&S. Woody's just fired the HC of a team and he chose not to field any calls cause he was on Vacation. That is piss poor BS. The fact that the call happened to be from the #1 prospect adds fuel to the fire. It either adds up to: -incompetence -a plan other than Cowher (Which was ridiculous at the time) -Simply doesn't care.
So Cowher gives every indication that he doesn't want to coach in '09 and then he does an about two-face by saying he wants to talk to Woody about the Jets' job, but Woody is not available. Why should Woody kiss up to an overrated hypocritical jackass who is taking advantage of this situation for his own benefit? Cowher is the one who displayed extremely poor character and judgment here by talking shit, not Woody. Get off the Cowher high horse already - the guy is just as toxic for the Jets as Favre is. Obviously, Woody learned his lesson with Favre and is doing the right thing by staying miles away from the pompous jerk.
Giving Chad his release was the class thing to do for Chad. It gave him an opportunity to get his max value and go where he wanted to go. If Woody didn't care he keeps Mangini he's under contract for less money that it will cost him to hire a new coach. If Cowher was interested they could have made an appointment or Cowher could have flown out to see Woody on vacation. The Cowher thing sounds like total BS. It sounds like we are doing a complete search and interviewing everyone. I don't see what the issue is other than the team ain't that good, the HC lost the team and the GM fired his ass.
That is BS right there. The owner of a franchise doesn't have coaches "Make appointments and doesn't fly people out to their vacations. The fact is, just like Bush, there are times of crisis when your ass shouldn't be on vacation and when you are, cut it short. It wasn't even that because it wasn't even a sit down, it was a friggin' phone call...A PHONE CALL that he CHOSE NOT TO TAKE. That's what stinks. and about Penny maybe you didn't understand what I wrote, I was talking about how the fans treated him not how he left. My point was to show how certain things get handled horribly. There wasn't a reason for fans to hate Penny so much and there wasn't a reason for Woody to avaoid the call.

Cowher called Woody and Woody wouldn't take his call. No way that happened. The Jets are not in crisis. Tannenbaum is the GM. If Cowher wants to or wanted to talk to Woody they would have talked. This is agent BS being given to the press.
