Exactly. Last night's Yankees-Red Sox game is the perfect example.

Bowles took over the "D". There were rumors that the defensive schemes had been pretty complex. If true, that could explain why there were so many holes, blown coverage, and a hesitant pass rush. Maybe with Bowles stepping in he simplified things and just let their natural athleticism take over. Whatever it was they need to stick with it.

Bates called a much different game. Very few empty backfield sets; two TEs; more running calls. It really helped that Crowell went off - you can't plan that kind of thing, but that answering 77 yard TD run was the turning point of the game. It made Denver have to spend more time and focus on Crowell, and then Powell, and slowed the pass rush giving Sam more time to work. If they can get that running game going like that every week, they'll be in good shape. That said, even Jim Brown couldn't be expected to run for 200 yards every week, so that's unrealistic, but if they can get north of 175 yards, I think that can make the other team's defense respect the run and give Darnold time. But Bates has to lose whatever playbook he was using before Sunday.

Of course there's still lots to improve on, but at least this showed progress.

Yes, as half my friends are JAGS fans.... but I'm not blaming Tom Brady for that game either ;)

We have also said that Powell and Crowell need to rush the ball more.

Powel 20 carries and Crowell 15 carries, that makes it a lot easier to have good QB play as you mentioned above. Cutbacks were a lot more crisp by both RBs.

Bates reduced the sideline runs and screens for a more straight forward attacking scheme this game as well.

did you know he threw for 430 yards with 4 picks and a 54 rating against the Chiefs defense this year?

    My explanation:

I hope Kacy Rodgers pulls through and conquers whatever illness he is dealing with. But I think we may be a better team with Bowles calling the defensive plays.

Yes I did. Jacks has a much better over all team than we do. When Sam has played well, twice so far we won both games. When Bortles plays well Jacksonville is in the argument for best team in the NFL.

Remember when Denver took Paxton Lynch in the first round despite the fact everything about his college career screamed "bust"? Good times, good times.

But you'll only hear about how the Jets took Hack.

It also doesn’t hurt that Vance Joseph is one of the worst coaches in the NFL.

I remember one of the NY analysts at the time (maybe Adam Schein?) ripping the Jets for not taking Paxton. The reason being that Elway was one of the best QBs ever, and therefore if he likes a QB you can be damn sure that QB is going to be good.

Just more reason to believe the draft is predominantly a crap shoot.

Of course in that case it was the coaching staff of NE that choked. As we all know when Coughlin's teams get good QB play they own BB team.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Jets would have a winning record if McCown or Teddy were starting, but then you defeat the whole purpose of throwing Sam into the fire - faster development and maturation into a bonafide FQB. Short term sacrifice for long term gain. It's a tradeoff we have to deal with this year.

There always a team or 2 that wins and covers in the same year but also a team that wins but sucks ats . Are you thinking this or you did research because figuring out which one before it happens is the key . Looks like chiefs n rams would fit that bill. I would say those 2 teams at home were a good bet in the first month but now the spreads widen. Vegas is smarter then us.

That’s good. But the spreads will widen and I doubt it will stay that way for all 4 teams. If I had to pick one it would be rams and maybe the chiefs at home only
