A healthy Clemens likely would have gone somewhere between 17 and 32 in the second half of the first round.

He's not a good comparison for Chad though because that still would have made him the 4th QB taken in a strong draft for QB's whereas Chad was the 1st QB taken in a weak draft.

I'll be perfectly happy if he beats out Chad for the job next season. I'd rather keep Chad for another season though if that's the difference between 9 or 10 wins and 7 or 8.

I love Chad, but when was the last time we fell behind in a game and you honestly thought he could bring us back with his arm?

    2002

Long time ago. Grats to Chad for his comeback, but he should spend the rest of his years as the backup to the starting QB of the Jets.

Well said!! If you have faith in your coaches (which I do) you stop all this monday morning coaching crap, I have a true faith in Tangini to make good decisions for this organization for many future years.....

Man, I'm with you. Everyone just stacks 8 in the box and there is just no openings. It's true the right side of the o line is weak but lets face it, Chad doesnt throw fear into the hearts of CBs. As for the comments that his interceptions were a function of our lack of running attack, that is just wrong. Some of the passes just had too much air under them and the corners can adjust, case in point was asante this week. This is my last post on this subject as I'm not going to change the pro Chad crowd. However, I will tell you that if Clemens has a great camp, I think Mangini will make the change.

I root for Chad and I wish he would win a SB for us, but I question whether he has the tools to get us to the show. I think we would have to heavily overload our team in other areas (like a major ground game) to make up for his physical deficiencies. Chad's fragility could also make Clemens' timetable accelerate without notice.

We should have drafted Cutler instead of Clemens, stocked the OL with the next several picks, then BPA in the lower rounds. That way, Chad would know the future is NOW, his replacement is already on the roster and sooner or later, Cutler would be the future. As it is right now, there's almost as many questions about Clemens as there were about Bollinger until Chad got hurt last year.

How were we supposed to draft him?

Was he not available at the 4th spot? Yeah, we would have not been able to draft D'brick however I think securing the Qb position for the foreseeable future would have been worth the delay in rebuilding the OLine.

That would have been quite a reach at the time, especially considering our O-line needs.

Agreed, however wasn't QB just a big a question mark as the OL at the time? The choice Tangini made was to rebuild the OL first and let the Qb position sort itself out. I would have taken a different tact by drafting Qb first, then let the OL sort itself out. Who knows. We got 10 wins out of an easy schedule, a solid Center and D'brick that may or may not turn into something special.

This FO/CS prided itself on bold moves and drafting Cutler would have sent shockwaves throughout the organization.

QB was definitely a huge ? at the time. I guess building the organization around a hopefully great QB draft pick is one way of doing it. I'm a big fan of the way we seem to be building from the trenches out. Hopefully we can beef up that d-line and continue to build on the o-line.

I don't know where you get that they pride themselves on bold moves?

Cutler is not that good a prospect.

I'll be shocked if we're still talking about him in favorable terms in 5 years. He's got Eli Manning's head attached to Jim Harbaugh's arm. That's not going to make him a particularly strong QB.

For the record the Broncos didn't have all that hard a schedule down the stretch and the only team he beat was Arizona, Cincinnati beat themselves.

Starting 2 rookies on the OLine to protect a Franchise QB coming off two shoulder operations? Sounds pretty bold to me. Going for a 1st. down early in the season trying to instill confidence in the team instead of taking the easy 3pts?

Chad was just cooked. It's sad that it happened and it's sadder that it took Mangini longer than the rest of the western world to figure that out.

We should have been 1-4 at the worst when the change was made, like with Vinny in 2002. The last 3 losses are on Mangini, not the defense or Chad.

My opinion is that NFL head coaches don't have 3 straight losses to throw away ever.

I thought someone stole your password, then I saw the date.

Anyway this is the more optimistic Bradway I miss........................lol

Back on topic. It is funny how many of the posters not enamored with Chad were 100% correct. The worse thing is the regression in him. I really wonder what in the world it was from. He has gotten progressively worse since the middle of last season.

This was pretty funny stuff. Pennington healthy has always lead us to the playoffs. I trust the coach to make the right decision of course if he decided to start Clemens after showing he was much better than Pennington in preseason he would have been killed if we didn't win right away.

Tough position for a young coach, throw the rookie into the fire and get second guessed by the entire team and fan base when we don't make the playoffs or let him learn and take over without the pressure of making the playoffs on a team that isn't playoff caliber? Mangini probably threw away 1 or 2 wins this year with his decission to stick with Chad to long, but the big picture is Clemens not Chad and in the scheme of where this team is headed, 1 or 2 wins this year means nothing.

The goal is to rebuild the Jets into an elite team that can make a run for 2,3 or 4 years at a SB. Mangini and Tanny will have the opportunity to build this team, they aren't going anywhere. Chad will be cut, we will have a huge amount of money going into the offseason and Clemens gets a chance to throw the ball around with very little pressure to win. As bad as this year is, in terms of rebuilding we haven't been set back at all and the 1 or 2 wins we didn't get will likely help in the off season.
