I can not believe that, so many are willing to dump Chad after the year we have had, that is just silly. You have to know we don't win 5 games this year without Chad much less ten. Do not be excited for Clemens because his time has not come. In fact I am not sure I am excited at all, next year we will not be feasting on a bunch of weak teams, we are going to have a much tougher schedule so let's all just relax and enjoy the fact that we were the surprise of the year in the NFL.
I'm excited. I'm also intrigued. I really wonder what the jets will do this year. They could anoint Chad the franchise and hand him the job, but I don't think they'll do that. They could trade him away this off season when his value is highest - this is what i would do, but it takes a LOT of balls to do that and puts a lot of pressure on Clemens. Or, and this is what I think they'll do: they'll open up the competition in camp again next year and see what shakes out. I love Chad and appreciate his strengths, but to me, his weaknesses are too glaring and too easy to defend for him to be my franchise QB.
very well put. i totally agree. i posted my thoughts in the other thread, so i won't post here also. but i'm with you: i'm a huge Pennington fan, but i no longer support the guy because he doesn't have what it takes to elevate this team to the next level. and i didn't just start saying this, so it's not an overreaction to the loss; i've said it all year. cheers
I think Chad has earned the right for the jets to be his team going into the offseason. He played inspired football after two shoulder surgeries and did enough to lead the team to the playoff. While sometimes he gives me a heart attack when he drops back to pass, I think he did a pretty solid job this year. With that said, Clemens should have the opportunity to pass him in training camp if he proves superior.
Chad had earned the right to get a job on another team. How many more years of losing to the Patriots do you guys want to watch. Every year they load the line because chad can not throw the ball downfield. They Jump coles routes to create turnovers every time we play them. I like chad and he is a great guy but he does not have the skill to take us to the next level. Once the Jets get behind like they did yesterday all other teams have to do is drop back in coverage and wait for him to throw. How many times do we have to watch the same thing before we realize it is time to go in another direction.
I'll be excited when Clemens wins the job. If he can't unseat Pennington this year I'd be worried about his future in the NFL.
Wait until we give CHad a running game that teams actually have to worry about. He was a one man show this year, played nothing short of fantastic. His 17 picks were a result of throwing into 8 and 7 defenders. I think CHad is our QB for the next 5 or 6 years, and I hope he is. He has the respect of the ENTIRE locker room, the coaching staff and runs Schottys offense very well, and its only going to get better.
Chad throws into 8-7 defenders because he can't throw over them. If he could spread the defense maybe we could have had a better running game. It is hard to run block when you have eight defenders in the box on every play because your qb can not throw it down the field.
I am so sick of this Clemens crap. Let Pennington prove he can't do the job before you take it away from him. This team was supposed to win 3-5 games this year.
Anyone saying the latter is either a troll or a jester. As for the former, I'll say this. Jon Kitna won the Comeback Player of the Year award in 2003 and was on the bench in 2004. The Jets are not obligated to start Pennington in 2007 because he won an award in 2006 and hung around with the Patriots for three quarters in a playoff game. Can Clemens be as successful as Carson Palmer? Nobody knows that yet. We may find out in 8 months or so. If Clemens outperforms Pennington in camp maybe he gets the job. Or maybe he won't play unless Pennington gets injured or plays poorly in September.
So you're more interested in one untested individual than the success of the team. Good to know. Oh, and Pennington's never had us go 8-8, so I don't know where "once again" comes from.
fuck heart, i have been a Jet Fan since the Namath days. I don't know if your old enough to see Namath to Maynard but that was magic. Chad cant get us to the SB. This aint a beauty contest and I aint in it for a consolation price. If you want to send Chad a hallmark card go head, but I want to see A QB who can fricken throw the ball down the field. I just dont for the life of me understand Jet fans. We can never blow a team out because our drives take forever, unless Cotchery makes one of his remarkable 77 yard runs. Chad can never make the bullet pass between two defenders in the endzone. We loose 30% of the field with Chads lack of arm strength. I like Chad, I really do. All we are doing with Chad is continuing these so so years of making the first or 2nd round of the playoffs. I'm looking to win a SB, which hasn't happend since I was 8.
didnt Namath have a losing record? yea yea he won the uper bowl but i was negative 12 yrs old so i could care less
Im sick of all this Pennington heart and guts ***T too! The bottom line is when we line up against the elite teams in the league all of their quarterbacks are better than ours and for us to compete with them we have to improve that position. We can have an allpro line and Rb and we would be sitting here next year having the same conversation and the same result as yesterday.
So all strong armed QB's get to the SB right. How many times did Vinny take us there. How many times did O'Brien take us there? In fact the only QB who has ever taken us there is Namath. So upon further review, maybe Chad is not the problem, maybe Chad is finally being put in a situation where he will lead us to a SB. A situation where a smart QB is needed to run a complex offense, and where a solid running game would lead to play action and open receivers down the field. Fact of the matter is it takes A LOT more than a strong arm to win the SB, QB's like B. Johnson have won it and guys like Peyton have not. I think its safe to say that when CHad plays, we are a much better team overall, becasue there is not a guy in that locker room who would not take a bullett for him and they play their asses off, but i guess that does not count for anything. How about respect in the huddle, or would you rather have Eli back there with his leadership ability. Not everyone can be T. Brady, cool and collected, but with the right pieces the Jets, with Chad at QB can get the job done, they can get to and win a SB.
Kellen next year, I would pretty much bet my mortgage that barring injury, Chad is the QB next year and for the foreseable future.
So if Chad's arm was stronger NE wouldn't have been able to ice the game with a 6 minute drive or whatever it was? I don't see anything Chad did yesterday that would cause someone to say he can't get it done. It looked to me like he was firing the ball right in there all day with not too much of a running game to balance things.
huh? so you are saying that it doesn't matter whether Clemmens can do the job better as long as Pennington can do the job, period? that doesn't make any sense at all. I'm not saying that Clemmens can do the job, but waiting until Pennington has absolutely nothing left is a ridiculous plan if there is a QB that may be better now. only a bad organization ignores a good player on the bench simply to use up what they have starting. by your own position, Vinny should have gotten his job back after he was injured, despite Penningtons success, because Vinny had yet to prove he couldn't play anymore. it doesn't matter if Chad is still good if Clemmens is better. that we will only find out when he is given the opportunity. we know what Pennington offers, that isn't in question. it is a matter of whether what he offers is enough to win a championship, so far it hasn't been. and Pennington has had the benefit of a great RB and O-line in the past and he wasn't able to deliver then either, so that defense isn't applicable, because that hasn't led to anymore success in the past with him.
