and neither do you have any inside poop that Rex is not the problem.

    Yet we know this:

The Jets were no doubt looking to can Tanny before the season ended. Their first move was to can him, and they announced at the time they had hired a search firm to replace Tanny. So that decision had already been thought about and decided upon as of the Tanny firing as well.

Now, at that point, either the Jets had been talking with the search firm about Jet FO ideas for Tanny's replacement, or they had not. If the latter, they were not doing their job.

So, giving them the benefit of the doubt, the Jets had been thinking about Tanny's replacement before he was fired. I sure hope they did.

In fact several names were then floated as potential candidates, and we also know some of them were interviewed. Meanwhile Woody confirms that Ryan is definitely staying on as HC.

None of the GM's first interviewed, some now nearly two weeks ago, appear to be still on the table, and some like Caldwell went to different franchises.

Now they seem to be interviewing or considering candidates who had not been mentioned initially.

And Caldwell also fired the Jags' HC, who had not been fired before.

Now I concede I don't know that Rex is the main cause of this set of circumstances. But let's put it this way - Woody staying Ryan was saying does not appear to have led any good prospects to urge themselves on the Jets.

I have never stated Rex isn't a problem in the search for the GM. my opposition continues to be to the argument that he IS the problem, not the argument that he MAY be.

    Kurt,

I take no pleasure in this situation I can assure you. It has me quite upset, too. I frankly am not sure what to do about it. I am more and more convinced it will only be luck that will allow Woody to ever see a real contender during his ownership.

In the short run I am merely testing my skepticism against what seems to be going on, hoping and hoping for some basis for optimism. Some lemonade to come out of these lemons. It might happen.

At this point, I am not betting on it, though.

    JB,

I understand, and speaking for myself i don't come anywhere near claiming to know it for a certainty.

Based on what we do know, however, it would seem to be logical that it is a part of the problem. We know about the others, such as the cap, the Sanchez situation, the turnover in the CS, Woody as the owner...

But no one knows what the relative significance is of each of those factors when they are taken together.

I don't doubt that the existing candidates may have been turned off by having to keep Rex.

But I also think there is a damn smart GM candidate out there that would be willing to work with Rex, and just because the Jets have not hired him yet doesn't mean that the team has made a dire mistake.

I would rather keep Rex and find that GM than hire some "hot name" of a GM that will hire an unknown coach just because it will be "his guy."

despite Rex's failures, I still think that if you correct the roster problems he is the coach that can get this team to the next level.

You act like that is some giant assumption. GMs run football teams. To suggest otherwise requires evidence. It's not out of the norm to have full control. It's also not out of the norm to retain some coaches when you get a new GM. I hope Cohen will not be our choice, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Who knows, he might be a diamond in the rough.

 There are no surefire candidates in a new GM search. Just because you like them, doesn't mean they are sure fire. The Jets want to pick the person who is right for their current situation. Practically every high paying job interviews multiple people before choosing the right person. GM is arguably the most important person on the team, since they control its direction. It's not like hiring an assistant coach, where if he's not that great, it probably won't destroy the team. Remember the people are auditioning for the Jets. The Jets aren't auditioning for them. People need to understand this.

And for those saying that Rex is the reason why GMs have turned us down, I'd like to see evidence.

Barcs you are not the first to use that arguement but let me ask you or anyone else if you can provide evidence to the contrary that suggest or tells us that Rex is not one of the resons why GM's or OC's for that matter are not turning us down ?

I still feel it will be Cohen--said it from day 1 and still feel that way !

I'm not making the claim that he is or isn't the reason, so the onus is not on me to prove anything. I'm just saying we should wait until this is done before jumping to conclusions that are nothing but speculation and conjecture. Maybe I'm wrong, but so far the couple people that have turned us down have not given a reason why. If it turns out to be Rex, I'll happily eat crow and admit I was wrong. I've been wrong before, but people are just assuming it is and calling it a day. I prefer to wait until we actually DO know before stating one way or another.

It's similar to somebody telling you that god is real because you can't disprove him after they stated it as a fact. Burden of proof is always on the ones making the claim, not the people who call their claim bullshit.

The great thing about the world today is people who aren't worth what they are getting paid are found out and those who are worth more than they are getting paid also find out. In today's world those who bring value to an organization are most assuredly the ones calling the shots. Make no mistake about it a great GM who can turn the Jets into a consistent winner is worth 100's of millions of dollars to the owner. That person isn't auditioning for anyone.

All those people who can't get jobs aren't the people who bring 100's of millions of dollars of value to an NFL franchise.

You're right that there it's assumption that Rex is making it more difficult to obtain new GM. We can't deny that there's a history of new GM walking in & hiring his own HC right away or one season later. This scenario with Jets is different though. Usually when new GM is hired, there's a HC there who also is failing big time.

If Rex was never over .500 & owner insists he stays then I'm confident to say Rex is in the way. But that's not the case here because Rex had success & close to the SB twice. Because of that, I think it's possible that GM don't mind coming aboard & giving Rex 1 year under their regime.

    ===
My opinion is that the biggest factor in bringing in new GM is the length of contract. Jets will need to give new GM 2 years just to fix up the salary cap. If you're a new GM then no way you can take this job if contract is only for 3 years.

Once this hire is made, I'm very curious on length of contract given to new GM. It'll help us make an guess on how big a factor the salary cap problems played when interviewing candidates.

In a court of law the plaintiff has the burden of proof. But this isn't a court it's a forum where people are having a discussion. If you choose to disagree with someone's opinion you need to provide compelling proof or basis for your opposition. For example, I could state I don't believe God exists and then list all the scientific reasons to support that argument. You might believe he does and that's fine, you take it on faith. But when you say I'm wrong that God does exist, well then you need to provide conclusive evidence to support your argument. You could tell people they can't ever truly know for a 100% the status of his existence and insist on not letting anyone speculate. But what sort discussion would be left without any speculation. None of us will every truly know what others are thinking or what happens inside the Jets organizations, but that doesn't preclude us from speculating based on circumstantial evidence. Btw, in a court of law circumstantial evidence can hold as much weight. Witness sees smoke come out a window, it is reasonable to infer there is a fire without going inside and viewing it first hand.

I don't know why you feel the need to apologize for thinking this organization is headed in the wrong direction. He should be apologizing to you in advance for the time you will waste next season when the avalanche of fan disgust rain down upon Woody and the train Rex. <<<--------Cool name for a band

not really the point. someone can't make a statement without anything to back it up and then say it is the opposing parties job to disprove it, not their job to validate it.

I don't think iI was apologizing. It certainly was not my intention to do so.

That doesn't make sense. I believe x, you believe y. Both of us disagree with each other but neither is obliged to disprove the other. So how does a discussion go? You're wrong. No you're wrong. No you are and I don't need to disprove your argument. Good because it's not my job to disprove your wrong argument.

it is a fact that dinosaurs live on a plant 10,000 light years from Earth on a rocky planet with an atmosphere comprised mostly of nitrogen, and they have a laser ray device pointing towards earth that is controlling our brains.

this isn't a court of law so I do not have to validate any of this. you have to prove it is not true.

There's this really cool phrase called "in my opinion". People need to start using it because 9 times out of 10 people just state things like facts with no evidence whatsoever. I have no problem with people giving opinions, just don't act like it's conclusive or proven.

In my opinion ,,,,we have had a hard time finding a GM because our team just ain't that good, we have serious QB problems, our cap situation is a mess and then too add that the new GM is having personnel including the head coach forced on him ! So in my opinion guys that would have considered this job,ran from it due to one or all of these reasons

Who's looking for a GM who's running from a fight? It's time to bring in Shane.
