This was Rex Ryan from a Tim Graham article today: "I came here to win. I never came here to be average. Again, I know when it's all said and done, I'm going to be held to those standards. Did you win? Did you deliver a championship? I'm man enough to go for it where a lot of guys aren't. We'll see what happens."
Those old guard Metro NY newspapers are dinosaurs in the age of man. You can see with beat writers like Lange, Cimini and McManus jumping ship to the online media sources how they are losing their grasp on legitimacy. Soon enough those newspapers won't be able to afford to print papers and they will be relegated to online media only, and then they'll be the small potatoes. Out of their element.
This. If you had me do this poll, as a Jets homer, I might come out with 15-1 as well. Why? I wouldn't predict us to lose any home games or any road games against lesser opponents. And I'm sure most fans wouldn't. If I'm a Colts or a Saints fan, and that poll for them doesn't come out 16-0, then they're not real fans...
What's a newspaper? Seriously, internet is the future. If you don't like it, then you can git out! But so many beatwriters are gone. ESPN is going to eventually try to dominate everything both locally and nationally by just having people cover everything. They'll be able to pay more, and they'll be able to give writers more exposure. It's happening. ESPN is taking over the universe.
Probably referring to all of the ex-Jets from last year that are currently on the Arizona roster such as Rhodes, Alan Faneca, Jay Feely ... and lest we forget Justin Miller and Anthony Becht too!
Wow, you got to F'en kidding me, who comes up with the crap. As a guy who has followed this team since my early teens, over 40 years now, I hate when expectations run this high. I have seen it all before and it spells nothing but trouble. Yes, I know, you want to call me a (dark sider) but over 40 years of following this team will do that to you. These idiots who write this stuff must be polling 15 year olds or folks who have only recently jumped on the bandwagon. Any long time Jets fans knows very well that playing against AFC East opponents was and never will be an easy task . We have all seen the best of Jets teams lose to very shitty Bills, Pats, or Fins teams who we should have crushed. An the same can be said of very shitty Jets teams beating these same teams when they were at there very best and should have crushed us. This is now a very good Jets team with excellent ownership, front office and on the field coaches. We should all expect better results then last year and I think many do, but 15-1 in today's modern NFL is rare, even in the best of times. So 9-7 last year, a year that we lost a few games that we really should have won and yes, lucked in to the playoff. Yet, when we got there, we showed many who thought we would be one and done, we really did belong there. So on a 16 game Schedule. to lose only 1 of out of each quarter of the season, being 3-1 in each of the quarters would have to be considered excellent and take us to 12-4 and into the playoffs at the end of the season. My personal belief is, 12-4 is for this still young club, would be huge and a best for this coming year. 11-5 would be totally acceptable and still put us in to the playoffs as long as at least 5 of those win are against divisional opponents. Anything less the 10-6 one would have to condider that the additions made to this club were not correct and that flaws still remain and that maybe the powerhouse that we thought this club was going to be, was a just fluke .....
fitflo: well done The Jets have been (hello Pete Rozelle, Harrison, NY), from that point on, the Jints target....namath.......yale bowl.....jets 34-14......yikes!..... The NFL is STILL PISSED OFF AT 16-7!!! Back off.....day 'one' during their tenure at Peekskill Military Academy as summer camp (btw, I can't spell for shiate) and later..... recall in the 80's when the nfl commish 'smirked' while announcing "Jeff Lageman" (Jets=UVA LB) as gang green's 1st round pick. remember that one, gang green denizens??? (again, I can't spell) Your "NFL" League: they hate you Jet fans. Believe me. You aren't "section 5" (Yankee Stadium) camel haired-over coated 'rich mics' ....... phuck them. They're dead (well, most of 'em). This is YOUR time. This is when YOU re-claim the fact that the JETS were the ones who were and who are now, ...now.
espn is retarded. obviously 99% of the people saw the poll, and just clicked yes. I just read a total of 1359 people voted.
Sorry for my NFL-history "they hate you" rant, but it's still there.....we've got to get an 85 Bear's DL (totally kill the QB) CRUSH/DL thrust ....at which point guys like Wilbur Marshall (who we've already got as LB's) can use in the Rex package to kill AFC-East QB's in AFC-East matchups. It's all about being the Jets. It's all about killing THEIR QB's....and knowing their game plan is preventing us from........KILLING their QB's....period.
Or we can engage in objective and realistic football discussion in this forum and recognize we're probably not going to go 15-1, nor is anyone in the AFC this year as it is deep and full of tough teams. I will GLADLY eat crow if we go 15-1. With fuckin' pleasure. LOL.
What kind of world are we living where Jets fans are an optimistic lot? I think I have woken up in some kind of parallel universe. What next world peace?
Seriously? It was a poll of no consequence the lead to an article of no substance. I'm honestly happy to think that the fan base is emulating Rex's bravado rather than the SOJF "we're already fucked" mentality seeping through in May.
