Based on what? LMAO put Barlow behind that KC line and he'd rush for over 800 yards in spurts as well... Barlow isn't great, but he doesn't suck...And that makes him better than Blaylock... Blaylock had 1 good year with the best OLine in football...He's a change of pace back, 3rd down back type guy...I don't see how Blaylock is better than a guy who has been a starter and done well at it despite a piss-poor OLine...
good post i always go by the saying "You Cant judge a player if hes on San Fran" he actually didnt look too bad back in 03 when he got a decent amount of carries now, running for over 100 yds in 06 on about 25 carries AGAINST TAMPA BAY with SAN FRANSISCOS LINE is something to brag about
I think logistically, this is a good trade. It helps us now. We are not losing anything in this trade. You know, at this time of year it's hard to find any good backs, and he's pretty decent. I think we have a much better coaching staff, oline and passing attack, that barlow will have more room to succeed. That, and remember guys, when your losing a game, you tend to go away from the run. So let's try to keep this in perspective. That and the defense will help keep the o on the field.
Really, he isn't an every-down back...We can all accept that. But with the depth the Jets have now with Houston, Blaylock and Washington, all who could get at least 2 carries a game, it doesn't look all that bad...Their definately won't be a feature back in this offense, but now more formations can be called and more mis-matches on defense when and if 2-RB sets are called, Blaylock or Washington can split out wide or whatever... Another positive is that Barlow, Blaylock and Washington all have good hands out of the backfield, a big plus for Chad's dumpoffs and open up screen plays...
i have friends who live in SF and have watched every 49er game the past 10 years. Barlow sucks...Ask anyone who's seen him on a regular basis
I was much higher on acquiring Duckett as he has the ability to be a long term fix at RB for us. Barlow, to me is just a short term fix, although at the very least he will give us an average running attack from the position. Hopefully we didn't give up too high of a draft pick to acquire him. Look for us to target a guy like Adrian Peterson or Marshawn Lynch come next April.
you know you're running back (barlow) is good when he can't win the starting job in SF. Gore looks good, but he's never played....shows how much confidence the Niners FO has in Barlow
I see Barlow as an every down back. He certainly has the stamina and ability to hold onto the football. The problem is, he's simply an AVERAGE every down back.
yep, same people who say Barlow sucks probably also think that guys like Larry Johnson, Priest Holmes, Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, Droughns is/were phenoms. An obscenely good line can make any back look good.
Well we did have a good draft this year so theoretically we wont need as many picks next year... He did have a good year in 2003. Depends... I hope its nothing higher than a 4th rounder but i think it may be a 3rd or as high as 2nd
there are things called stats. they tell you what a player did during a game you dont have to watch them play to tell what kind of player they are it helps but you dont have to
What do you guys expect at this time of the preseason?? We need someone who has experience. If we gave up a 4th rounder or less I am happy even if this is a stop gap. I hate to say it but houston could be the odd man.
