They actually were up until this weekend at least. BC has a history of trying to play hardball with their coaches. Their previous coach, Tom O'Brien, allegedly showed interest in the University of Washington when Ty Willingham got the job and was told he better get the next job he interviewed for because he'd be out if he ever searched for another job. He eventually went to NC State when the AD, who is a former football coach, tried to get him to change some of his in game decisions. Don't ask me for a link. Not to go Mortensen on you, but I was a student at BC at the time all of this went down and had friends who worked as managers within the football program and a former roommate who played on the team.
Jags is an interesting guy. He seems to have been successful eerywhere he's been. W/ that said, I like him more as a OC candidate than HC. He's 3-4 years away from being ready to be an NFL HC. BTW, BC continues to try to have the same arrogant backbone as ND...and continue to make fools out of themselves. It was beautiful to see Vandy steal one from them.
Jags is a compelling choice. I don't blame him for wanting to leave BC. Thats a bush league vindictive little operation and Gene DeFillipo is notorious cantankerous tool who constantly is pulling 2 bit crap like this.
yup, they would have to pay him or reach a buyout agreement. the fact that he is willing to take the interview despite the threat pretty much tells the guy wants out of BC to begin with. so, if he gets fired he'll get paid anyways and find another job no problem. win-win for him.
Why did your thread title not have the entire topic in it? You really offered nothing here....but thanks. You wanted the attention so you made a title that would get people to click for no reason.
BC is being a bunch of cocksuckers but hey man if i was you just stay with your school. Jets aint worth it right now with there money hungry owner.
On the ESPN message boards someone already said Jags will be Pete Carrol Part 2, too nice for pro players. Any BCers care to comment?
I am a huge NFL fan, but don't watch a minute of college football. Could someone please tell me about BC and how they've done this season? It seems very rare for college coaches to come into the NFL and have success - is BC really successful enough for their coach to make a viable candidate? Is their offense that amazing?
How about this, Billick for HC and Nolan and Jags as coordinators? I know that would make me feel good about the next season.
I think this is a good idea. I don't understand why Billick has been off the radar. He does a great Coors Lite TV commercial!
No sense in making a judgement on this unless we know what is in his contract. It may specifically state that he will be fired for interviewing for any job outside BC. If it does then I see nothing wrong with it. It doesn't sound like he sought permission.
Sure but they will have to pay him anyway. This isn't in any way the Jets fault but I would hope they are really serious about this guy to go ahead knowing what is going to happen.
just get Ryan or Spags and be done with it, we need a defense, we have the tools to score points if we had an average QB down the stretch we would still be playing, but , we couldn't stop anyone it seems on 3rd down
