I actually think this is a point to discuss. With that kind of expected growth over a relatively short period of time, you could be looking at GMs backloading some contracts with younger players, like Sanchez (if his deal is reworked) or Harris......giving them some decent sized signing bonuses that can spread over a longer period of time, small base salaries with them rising as the term of the contract goes on. This could help us really get some deals done. All in all, I think like many have said Tanny will find a way. This regime hasnt given me ANY reason to doubt their personnel moves yet......as much as I complained about not having Moss I have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I agree w/ you. That's why although these new rules will make things more difficult we have a an owenr willing to spend, a creative GM who knows the cap and a HC that can recruit(not to mention top notch facilities).
That can't happen. I don't mind Thursday Night Football every week. They have it in week 1, and they have it from weeks 9-16 (I believe). Why not have it all year? The more football I can watch, the better. That's why I don't hate the 18-game season as much as most. But I'd love to have a game to be interested in every Thursday. Especially when you look at what there is to watch on television now... As for FA, as others said, we have a creative and smart GM. Our guys are FAs, but so are a lot of other teams' guys. Tanny will make some moves, and we'll be fine.
Can't see the owners agreeing to this crap. What they opted out of was better for them. The only gains are the things claimed to still be under negotiation (rookie cap and 18 game season). This looks like more of the player bullshit they keep leaking and hoping the owners are forced to accept.
The players have conceded 12% of what they had. If they really do have these 16 Thursday night games that's even more revenue in the pot. Whatever it is was jointly leaked because they were both under media lock-down.
Thursday games are cool with me as long as the Jets don't play any lol. Has anybody heard any talks about the 18 game regular season, are the players ok with it?
I heard that the Thursday games are to offset no 18 game schedule as the broadcast and ad revenue for those extra games will add the additional revenue owners are looking for.
The 18 game season is left on the table for later negotiation, presumably after this CBA is complete.
The players conceded approximately 12%, but the owners gave up the billion off the top. Based on the math over the last three years, the players didn't give up anything. The only way the owners gained a single dollar is if the annual profits increase substantially.
Yeah, but with increased revenue every year and knowing the players are what drives the sport they'll be on board. They'll get a ton for 16 Thursday night games. The Monday night contract is massive.
I've been hearing that the cap floor is going to be $120 million, so the cap ceiling is not going to be $125 million. The players are not going to agree to a deal that will reduce the cap when there hundreds of free agents. In any event, should that happen, I think we keep Edwards under any circumstances. He wants to be here and he wants to win. If the cap goes down, the teams with cap space are going to be the bad teams. Would Edwards really run to Carolina for slightly more money than the Jets would offer? He wants a ring, not to be another young QBs security blanket for three more years.
Where'd you hear a cap floor of 120 million? Also, was it a "cap floor" or a "cash floor" and did it include benefits?
Earlier the players were getting 60% of 8 billion, which was $4.8B. The current deal gives them $4.32. This deal saves the owners almost $500M/year (about half of what they were asking for), and gives them the rights to increased revenues in the future.
ESP for those of us that don't have the direct TV package. Of course I have cablevision so until they get that straightened I guess its bars every Thursday night..bring me back to my college days
Thursday night games: I like the idea of the NFL creating an atmosphere where I will look forward to watching a game between two teams I may care nothing about, a game I may never waste my time watching on a Sunday. Watching the Panthers and the Rams on Thursday night is better than going to dinner with my inlaws. Plus I will get to know some players I would otherwise never bother watching, players that someday may be on the Jets
Its gonna be crazy when free agency opens up. I have no idea who we might end up with at WR, and don't rule out Tanny getting a fairly prominent pass rusher in FA. Its times like these that I'm glad we have the front office we have. I really think we need to keep Holmes as a priority. I really like Braylon, what he's done for the Jets and his willingness to be a Jet, but his skill set is easier to replace than what Holmes offers. I'm still holding out that we can keep both, but even then I think we should go after Holmes first because Braylon might be easier to retain since he seems so eager to remain a Jet. If all things are equal, I think both of these guys would rather stay with the Jets. Its gonna be fun to watch.......
Not sure where you got your numbers from, but ESPN reported that the owners share (and they did the numbers) would be smaller this year and next. You do realize that as the revenue increases, so do costs. A lot of the pro players think the owners share is all profit, which just shows they have no knowledge of what it takes to run a business. Every employee (not just the players) gets annual raises. The cost of materials goes up every year. etc. For the amount of money the owners have invested in each franchise, their profit is a small fraction of what they could make by reinvesting the same funds into their real businesses, opening new ones and flat out investing. It sucks how people feel the right to spend someone else's money!
