It certainly didn't help that he all of a sudden became a DL instead of a pass rushing LB in terms of his health.
J. Moss has major character issues. If Branch is there he's the pick over. okeye who doesn't fit the 3-4. Chances of either of them avalible at 25....Slim to none.
I will be upset if we do not draft someone to help our offense. Against good teams, we didn't do terribly much offensively. Smoke/mirrors only lasts so long. Another OL, a gamebreaker on the outside, etc would help more than a compromise defensive player that is being taken just to be taken not on his merit.
Sudden? He spent 3 years of college as a DE. It wasn't until his 4th year he plays OLB. The folks in Atlanta seem to think he's a DE too.
Here's the thing... put aside the talk of scouting reports and the weak draft talk for a second, because most of it means nothing anyway. Let's assume that Olsen is the next Todd Heap/Dallas Clark and that he's a great receiving TE with decent blocking skills. As Br4dw4y5ux is alluding to, he wouldn't be taken advantage of with Chad under center as more than a dump-off man most of the time, and probably a redzone threat, and would not live up to billing in his rookie season until the baton is either handed to Clemens or another QB that can actually take advantage of his ability to stretch the middle of the field and expose weak safety coverage. Half of this board will be screaming bust by mid-season. That is assuming the best-case scenario, with what we have on the roster at the moment. Worst-case, if talk of this being a weak draft is true and this guy going at 25 means that in a good draft he would be a mid- to low-second rounder at best. But there's no knowing until he is drafted and coached up into an NFL squad, same as all the rest of the guys going on Saturday and Sunday. Scouting reports can only tell so much, and then you have to get the guy in the classroom and on the field and deal with the reality of the situation.
I think Baker is still very serviceable. Maybe if the refs in Cleveland called his catch a touchdown and we tied the game and went on to win we wouldn't even be discussing TE now.
Baker is very servicable, Herm loved "stonehands" Becht and did not give Baker a chance. He didn't have a great year, but was solid. Too many other needs to fill besides TE, especially with an unproven guy that can't block
