Jets upcoming schedule with the teams records: steelers (0-4) patriots (4-1) bengals (3-2) saints (5-0) bills (2-3) ravens (3-2) dolphins (3-2) raiders (2-3) panthers (1-3) browns (3-2) dolphins (3-2) Assume they lose to teams that are over 3-2, and win against teams under 3-2 They have to face: 4 teams under 500. This makes them 7-2 2 teams over 3-2. This makes them 7-4 Then pick 2-3 wins out of the following 3-2 teams: Bengals Ravens Dolphins (twice) Browns That's their recipe for making the playoffs. Of course it never happens that way, but it's fun to look at.
The only game that looks like a definite loss is against the Saints, but they are more mortal outside. Winning in Cincinnati will be very tough too because of their D. They're a team like the Titans (and we know how that went). After that, you have a lot of question marks. Are the Ravens any good this year? Did Miami just have a fluky 3-0 start? Can the Browns be taken seriously lining up Weeden at QB? Is Tom Brady really having a down season? Will Rivera have already been fired by the time we play Carolina? Considering the 3 games afterward, this week has to be considered a must-win against a team that has really struggled this season. It's not like the Steelers have lost a bunch of nailbiters, they have been soundly beaten several times already and have arguably the worst o-line in the entire league. For there to be any talk of playoffs, this is one we have to get.
The media sucks. They're more fickle than the fans. Before the season: Jets suck, worst team in the NFL, going to be terrible team. It's a circus! Rex Ryan is a lame duck. Week 1: Jets are still bad, but they got lucky because of that penalty. Week 2: Jets are looking pretty good against the great Pats, but their offense is bad. Week 3: Bills are not that good and the Jets barely beat them. Jets are so undisciplined, I don't know how they managed to win. Week 4: Titans showed everyone how bad the Jets really are. Week 5: Jets are a playoff team. Just watch and see! Their D is awesome and Geno and this offense are actually pretty good.
Here's how I see the Jets. With the exception of Denver, Seattle, N.O., Green Bay and SF, it wouldn't shock me if the Jets beat any other team. On the other hand, with the exception of Jax, I wouldn't be shocked if they lost to any other team.
He was saying you could kick it again if you missed the first attempt. It was pointed out by Phil Mushnick of the N.Y. Post, which is where I first heard it. Here's the quote from a related ESPN.Com article: (Mushnick's most damning piece of evidence: last year Smith reportedly said on the air that some NFL team should have tried a field goal on third down, so that if they missed they could try again on fourth down.)
If the kick is blocked and recovered on the kicking teams side of the line of scrimmage it counts as a fumble and can be advanced and if it was not 4th down, then you can kick again. Or if you have a bad snap, etc. That's why I was screaming at Rex yesterday for coming all the way down to 3 seconds. If you kick it and it goes past the LOS, then you turn the ball over to the other team.
Do people really take Stephen Smith seriously? The guy's whole skit is to make loud, stupid comments to draw attention to himself.
Prior to the draft, the Jets may have been near the worst. They were lacking a starting qb and lost lots of players from last season. But getting Sheldon, Geno, Milliner, Ivory, Bohanon and Winters in a draft does help things a bit. Also, Big Dame has come out of nowhere. After the draft they also signed Kellen Winslow. Don't forget changing out Sparano for Marty. That was the single biggest upgrade this past off season, imo.
